**Position Purpose:**
This position works with a Senior Merchant/Merchant to execute the merchandising strategy for their respective Class or Classes of business. Specifically, the Merchandise Planner will assist their (Senior) Merchant in driving sales, optimizing inventory, and generating profit. The role serves as the Merchant's primary support for setting up and maintaining assortments through data management, responding to stores and vendors, and providing analytical support to help the Merchant achieve their sales and profit plans. The role is also charged with working with cross-functional groups to gain insight on trends and issues that would have an impact on the Merchant's category of business.
**Key Responsibilities:**
+ 40% Manages all product information for assigned merchandising category; works with suppliers to onboard new products and relays product information to the field.
+ 20% Uses merchandising systems to analyze key merchandising metrics (e.g., class productivity, product trending, inventory status, margin rate) and provides recommendations for optimization.
+ 10% Partners with cross-functional groups across the business to analyze components of the business where problems/trends exist.
+ 10% Works on behalf of merchant to identify, quantify, and communicate assortment opportunities; helps develop seasonal transition targets and strategies, if applicable.
+ 10% Performs various administrative and tactical duties for merchandising category.
+ 5% Supports the merchant during the business review and product line review processes; works with key support functions to assist the merchant in preparing for negotiations; analyzes vendor profitability.
+ 5% Works on various product tests within respective category, including inventory monitoring, in-store execution, visual merchandising, and analyzing results

**Travel Requirements:**
+ Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

Overview:
The **Corporate Merchandise Category Planner** develops and executes the category business plan for assigned retail categories. The Role:

Gorilla Commerce is seeking a Merchandise Planner  who can thrive in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities. In this role, you will develop financial plans by forecasting revenue, demand units, pricing, advertising, and other key metrics to maximize margins. What You’ll Do:

  • Forecasting and Planning:
    • Build and reforecast product financial models at the SKU level, incorporating current market conditions and historical sales performance to develop strategic financial targets, support supply planning, and aid in sales execution in the marketplace
    • Create financial plans for new business ventures (e.g., new marketplaces, product listings, SKUs) by leveraging multiple data sources to establish a comprehensive growth strategy
  • Product Assortment Optimization: By analyzing historical business metrics, you will ensure that product listings meet required performance standards and provide recommendations for expanding successful products or exiting underperforming ones (e.g., entire product listings or specific SKUs)
  • Market Research and Analysis:
    • Conduct research on the velocity of sales, seasonality curves, and SKU selling performance to improve our forecast accuracy to reduce risk of an overstock situation

POSITION SUMMARY

As a Merchandise Planner, you will execute strategic planning and analysis, forecasting, and inventory management. Zappos is seeking a highly analytical Merchandise Planner to drive business success through data-driven insights, assortment optimization, and category and brand planning. In this role, you will play a critical part in maximizing sales, profitability, and inventory efficiency by developing detailed assortment plans, forecasts, and strategies. You will directly influence our product assortment and inventory management with creative, innovative ideas that are translated into actionable insights for the business.
Key job responsibilities
Core Responsibilities:
- Partner with buyer to design seasonal and annual strategies by category and vendor.
- Build financial plans in accordance with merchandise strategies to maximize profitability.
- Drive in season decision making to achieve financial and strategic targets.
- Manage inventory health, open-to-buy, item-level forecasting, and assortment planning.
- Optimize sales and inventory productivity through analysis and plans that drive high impact decision making.
- Forecast financials and related operational metrics.
- Manage reporting, driving a high standard for analytical excellence.
- Develop price reduction and exit recommendations with pricing team.
Other Responsibilities:
- Brainstorm and develop projects that improve the efficiency of buying/planning systems, processes and procedures.
- Partake in A/B testing of new tools and maintain owner mindset to deliver constructive feedback
- Train and develop team members.

Basic Qualifications
- 4+ years of with Excel experience
- Bachelor's degree, or 4+ years of professional or military experience
- 4+ years of supply chain, inventory management or project management experience

- Knowledge of the principles of statistical inventory control
- Experience managing and executing large projects from start to finish, including project management, data gathering and modeling, problem solving, and communicating recommendations
