Fabletics is currently looking for a Merchant. As the Merchant, you will be responsible for the category management of Womens Bottoms. You will create product assortments, develop category strategies, build robust cross-functional relationships, and manage tools. In addition, you will be responsible for supporting brand objectives and developing a thorough understanding of our customer.

The Merchant will collaborate with the Senior Director to develop assortment strategies based on analysis of business performance and thorough understanding of the competition and overall market. The ideal candidate is positive, data driven, a problem solver and thrives in a fast-paced environment.

This position will report to the Senior Director, Merchandising.

What you will do:

  • Continuous competitive landscaping and identification of best-in-class assortments
  • Partner with Planning to determine appropriate distortions and investment levels needed to drive results
  • Partner with Design to inform product innovation through thorough data analysis and customer insights
  • Analyze sales in season and post season to identify hits, misses and actions. Use learnings to inform in season action and future seasons assortments
  • Act as a cross-functional leader across Marketing, Creative and Design to effectively communicate strategies
  • Manage tools necessary to drive & analyze the business

The annual base salary range for this position is from $75,600-$88,000. The range provided includes the base salary that Fabletics expects to pay for the role. Offered base salary will be dependent on factors including the scope and complexity of the role, candidate's related work experience, subject matter expertise and work location.

Position Overview:

Assortment & Line Planning

Support the development of seasonal and annual assortment plans that align with brand strategy and financial goals

Partner with Design to build line plans that reflect customer needs, market trends, and merchandising direction

Contribute to category strategy by identifying opportunities to grow, maintain, or reduce investment across classifications

In-Season Management & Business Analysis

Track and analyze weekly, monthly, and quarterly selling to inform in-season actions and future planning

Participate in seasonal hindsight meetings with Planning and Design to recap performance and guide future assortments

Monitor selling by style, color, and classification to identify opportunities or liabilities and react accordingly

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Partner with Wholesale team to understand account needs, SKU requirements, and key line plan considerations

Collaborate across Design, Planning, and Production teams to ensure alignment on seasonal strategy, margin goals, and product flow

Communicate product strategy, performance recaps, and assortment rationale at key calendar checkpoints

Product Execution & Market Awareness

Maintain seasonal line architecture and item-level details in merchandising tools and trackers

Stay informed on competitive landscape, customer insights, and trend direction to help inform line development

Assist in preparing decks and tools for seasonal presentations, line reviews, and hindsight recaps

Pay is based on multiple factors, such as qualifications/skills/experience, geography, and state and local wage laws. In addition, bonus and/or commission and benefits including healthcare, retirement savings, paid time off/vacation, and product discounts may be offered.

Range for the position is $64,413 - $85,884

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute seasonal product strategies for a product category, ensuring alignment with consumer trends, sales performance, and market demand.
  • Manage the product lifecycle from initial buy to final markdown, analyzing trends, sales data, and customer feedback to optimize assortment and inventory.
  • Create strong partnerships among cross-functional areas including Planning, Design, Product Development, Sourcing, Marketing, Site Merchandising Operations, Allocation, and Visual.
  • Partner with Sourcing and Product Development to manage the flow and timing of deliveries, ensuring all deliverables are met on a timely basis. Set target retails and ensure costs and IMUs align with financial objectives.
  • Determine quantities to order by style, size, and color; validate to KPI objectives, Line Plan, and OTB plan.
  • Prepare regular reports on sales, inventory, and trends, presenting actionable insights to senior leadership and making recommendations for improvements.
  • Continuously monitor KPIs such as sell-through rates, margin performance, and customer feedback, adjusting strategies as necessary.
  • Partner with Marketing to understand (Omni) floor set visual placement of product and impact on sales. Work with Visual team and Merchant leaders on key initiatives requiring marketing and visual placement.
  • Ensure ongoing coordination with Site Merchandising Operations on final assortment and any updates as needed.
  • Partner with Store Ops, if necessary, to create applicable training and communication to improve workflow.
  • Perform research analysis of the plus-size market to identify trends and opportunities, tailoring insights to enhance the core customer's experience and identify new growth opportunities and business strategies.

Required Qualifications:
  • Five (5)+ years of vertical retail buying experience, including fashion categories.
  • Proven experience with data analysis, interpretation, and reporting.
  • Bachelor's degree in Merchandising, Business, or related field preferred or equivalent experience.
  • Strong understanding of fashion trends, customer behavior, and market dynamics.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret sales data and make informed decisions.
  • Exceptional communication, critical thinking, decision-making, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook (Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Ability to build strong business partnerships both internally and externally and demonstrate adaptability and flexibility as business strategies change.
  • Strong sense of style and ability to carry out a strategic vision.

**Job Summary**
Responsible for establishing merchandising objectives for a category or categories of merchandise. Drive the financial planning process and manage the process from recommending targets to pricing optimization. Drive the assortment planning process, from business performance review to supplier negotiations. Create operational plans used in SOAR execution. Oversee the supplier management strategy and works to source and rationalize suppliers to meet business needs. Responsible for approximately $350 million in business dollars.
**Major Tasks, Responsibilities, and Key Accountabilities**
+ Acts as key decision maker on merchandising and finance operational issues. Utilizes current market data (industry/competitive) to drive merchandising strategy. Determines consumers to target for a specific category and collaboratively decides the strategic direction of the business segment.
+ Executes and manages visual merchandising, new concept development, marketing / catalog, vendor services, inventory management, and supply chain issues.
+ Responsible for developing and executing plan to meet annual financial goals which include Sales Performance, Category Profitability and Category Inventory Productivity.
+ Makes key decisions and manages supplier strategy (e.g. import vs. domestic, national vs. proprietary). Reviews the supplier portfolio on a ongoing basis to ensure suppliers maintain the bandwidth to support changing needs. Works with key functions to source new suppliers.
+ Manages key projects within a business function (e.g. capital). Acts as the project champion and assists with setting the overall direction and defining the measures of success.
**Nature and Scope**
+ Solutions require analysis and investigation.
+ Achieves planned results by decisions and actions based on professional methods, business principles, and practical experience. May recommend/make decisions regarding new programs/initiatives that have significant impact to the business and carry consequences in unsuccessful endeavors.
+ Manages a larger team or multiple small teams through direction of subordinate management and/or supervisory staff.
**Work Environment**
+ Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
+ Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
+ Typically requires overnight travel 5% to 20% of the time.
**Education and Experience**
+ Typically requires BS/BA in a related discipline. Generally 7+ years of experience in a related field. May require certification. Advanced degree may offset less experience in some disciplines.

Overview :

The J.Jill Merchant team is responsible for developing and executing a customer-focused assortment that supports the brand concept and meets the company's financial goals for all channels. You will partner with Design in developing the line plan, edit and assort the line, and partner with Merchandise Planning to deliver business strategy objectives. You'll communicate merchandise strategies to all cross-functional partners and drive the business through in-season management, assessment, and reaction to current trends.

Responsibilities :
  • Creates merchandise framework to guide product line development to meet financial targets.  Edits and adopts the line to meet strategic business needs by segment.
  • Partners with Merchandise Planning on development of strategies that support business objectives.  Ranks product and assigns quantities in collaboration with Merchandise Planning.
  • Establishes retail pricing and mark-up targets to meet financial goals.  Ensures price-value relationship is in line with customer expectations.
  • Develops seasonal hindsights, interprets results, and synthesizes learnings into actionable business strategies.
  • Contributes in-season reaction to the business through daily analysis of sales data and interpretation of results.
  • Partners with Visual and Creative Merchandising teams to ensure proper presentation and space allocation of product to drive financial results.
  • Maintains competitive awareness and analysis with relevant recommendations.
  • Collects and interprets customer feedback from frequent J. Jill store visits, communication with field team, and analysis of online reviews.  Shares insights with product partners and aligns team on necessary next steps.
  • Uses J.Jill brand filter in all decision making.
  • Hires, trains, reviews and supervises staff.
