First Merchants Bank is seeking a Senior Merchant Sales Officer to join our team! This position will effectively sell merchant card processing services to new clients.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Drive Revenue through the promotion and selling of merchant solutions. Using a blended approach of both personal prospecting and partnering to develop internal and external referrals.
- Lead training and education for the Merchant team through mentorship and job shadowing.
- Independently manage their own individual pricing strategies and deliverables. Serve as a back-up for pricing reviews and client structuring.
- Manage the sales process including the creation of sales materials and proposals for clients and prospects.
- Provide updates related to the Merchant industry, product set changes, vendor enhancements, technical issues, and outages, as necessary.
- Remain current on product, industry, and technical merchant processing knowledge and up to date with regulatory changes.
- Actively partner with, train, and educate partner lines of business on merchant products and solutions offered.
- Prepare weekly/monthly sales and activity reports for leadership, utilizing established tracking solutions.
- Review and manage merchant client account activity, to ensure profitability and manage the overall health of the client relationship.
- Conduct annual review of merchant client files. When appropriate, partner with Consumer, Treasury Management and Commercial Bankers; and other lines of business to identify cross sell opportunities.
- Utilize prospecting tools to self-source sales opportunities within the existing banks book of business (i.e. ACH incoming report).
In order to be successful in this position, we require the following:
- Associate’s degree in business, marketing or a related field of study.
- A minimum of five (5) years of related merchant sales, banking, business to business sales and/or business development experience.

- Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing or a related field of study.
