Summary

The Electrical Service Technician acts as an advocate for the company providing customer service in the office and on-site worldwide. General scope of duties includes machine installation, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of PLC and PC-controlled systems and supporting development, designing, and manufacturing of the equipment in a unique machine industry - including such machines in the photovoltaic industry like vacuum coating and automation. International travel is required. This is a full-time exempt position with limited supervision.


Education and Experience

  • Strong oral and written communications skills with excellent skills in the English language and grammar.
  • Associates or bachelors degree in a technical field.
  • Requires 5+ years of related experience and gained full proficiency in a broad range of activities/skillsets related to field Installations and commissioning.
  • May have to complete formal training in area of specialty.
  • Ensure certifications are current (LOTO, ARC-Flash, Fork-lift, Respirator, etc.).
    When directed by Manager, conduct training classes at customer sites or main office.
  • Works with Manager to continue development path.
  • Reports to a Manager and/or Director.


Job Responsibility

  • Installation, start-up, and hand-off acceptance of equipment and upgrades worldwide.
  • Will support the development, designing, and manufacturing of the equipment.
  • Execute and meet agreed timelines set by the Customer and Project Management.
  • Summarize work activities, collect data, and send clear and concise e-mails to main office as necessary.
  • Provide remote customer support via email, phone, or other means.
  • Submit reports weekly to summarize daily activities and work hours.
  • Ensure safety practices are followed and maintained including near-miss reporting.
  • Wear appropriate clothing and PPE as needed whenever potential hazards exist.
  • Make use of methods, checklists, and procedures established by Engineering.
  • Contribute and provide feedback to checklists and procedures.
  • Adjusts and operates certain equipment to complete assigned task safely and timely.
  • Participate in Failure Analysis and feedback to Engineering.
  • May be required to assist in mechanical aspects of installation, but primary focus is on electrical.
  • Will assist with the setting or positioning to secure machinery.
  • Assist in other areas deemed necessary by Department Manager to help achieve optimum company goals such as Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, and R&D.
  • Assist or support other Vital engineering teams across all global offices when projects require higher than normal resources.
  • May lead onsite installation crew consisting of subcontract and Vital employees.
  • Will develop daily action plans and execute for installation activities.
  • Requires minimal supervision.

Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and engineering drawings/blueprints/diagrams.
  • Familiarity with semiconductor equipment or other large complex electro-mechanical systems are a plus.
  • Experience with high voltage electrical, hazardous materials, thermal systems, and computer and PLC based control systems helpful.
  • Ability to setup, operate, troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and software systems in accordance with established procedures and guidelines.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office programs on a beginner to intermediate level, especially Excel Word, PowerPoint, Project, and Outlook.
  • Ability to use AutoCAD programs on a beginner to intermediate level.
  • One who possesses a continuous improvement mindset and challenges the norm is highly preferred.
  • Must be able to work well under pressure and maintain a positive and cooperative attitude while interfacing with customers and colleagues.
  • Establish and maintain a clean and safe work area following 5S practices while ensuring tools, equipment, and part inventory are well organized and stored properly.
  • Must be a self-starter and works efficiently.
  • Self-sufficiently performs a wide range of complex duties under minimal guidance from the department manager.
  • Works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function as directed by the department manager.

Travel

  • Travel to customer sites alone or as part of a team.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a passport and other documentation as required for international travel.

Physical Requirements

+ Work from different height levels using scissor lifts, boom lifts, forklift baskets, and ladders (up to 40 ft.).
+ Troubleshoot issues with levelers, locks, and doors.

**Essential Skills**
