**The Impact You'll Make**
This **Metrology Engineer** will work as a subject matter expert in metrology systems and be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and precision of measurement systems and instruments used in our manufacturing processes. **What You'll Be Doing**
**Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to, the following:**
- Work as subject matter expert for instruments and gages to troubleshoot measurement-related issues from process and equipment.
- Lead metrology development projects, including new instrumentation and methods.
- Investigate advanced metrology methods, including CMMs, vision systems, roundness testers, and gaging methods.
- Provide CMM PCDMIS Offline and online programming support to individuals performing inspections.
- Mentor and lead a team of quality inspectors and track KPI's of processes.
- Improve Metrology Lab performance by reducing the lead time for incoming inspection, in process inspection and PPAP inspection.
- Develop visual aids and new software to prioritize incoming inspections.
- Participate in the development of a quality Plan with the Engineering and supplier quality team.
- Coordinate, create, and modify inspection routines on CMM for current and new components.
- Participate in the creation of manufacturing process and equipment qualification validation plans, validation protocols and reports, and their implementation.
- Design jigs and fixtures for job setup during inspection and reduce inspection time.
- Partnering with metrology equipment vendors on continuous improvement of software/hardware and development of new measurement techniques.
- Optimizing and maintaining the calibration of metrology systems.
- Collect and perform statistical analysis on metrology data to correlate to performance metrics.
- Train inspectors on how to run CMM with limited operator interaction.
- Performs gauge studies, GR & R's (attribute and variables).
**What We're Looking For**
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering
- 4+ years of experience with a thorough understanding of GD&T (geometric dimensioning and tolerancing)
- Preferred Machining background or experience in the machining industry.
- Advanced Proficiency and experience in CMM Programming, troubleshooting, and validating CMM with PCDMIS/ Calypso/Camio.
- Knowledge of mechanical inspection methods and tools used to determine product acceptance with accuracy and precision.
- Proficient in set-up and operation of inspection equipment, and metrology methods/technology.
- Experience with statistical analysis and quality control methodologies.
- Familiarity with ISO/IEC 17025 standards.
- Training or experience in the knowledge and application of PPAP, FMEA, Lean/Six Sigma, ISO-9001/14001, IATF 16949, GD&T, Capability Analysis, Corrective Action Tools, Design for Manufacturability, and Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (e.g. Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Visio, Word), Power Automate and Power Bi.

**Overview**
Metrology Engineer (GXP )
Bowhead seeks a Metrology Engineer to join our team at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Crane, IN. The Metrology Engineer will provide technical and engineering support services to the Strategic Systems Guidance, Navigation and Control Division.
**Responsibilities**
Essential functions will include:
+ Perform duties with minimal supervision and management intervention
+ Review specifications for test, measurement and diagnostics equipment
+ Identify TMDE measurements, calculate test accuracy ratios, provide a Calibration Measurement Report to document technical requirements an anlaysis.
+ Conduct research on TMDE, identify obsolete TMDE and provide recommendations to replace obsolete TMDE.
+ Determine whether TMDE is supported by the Navy Metrology and Calibration Program; coordinate and communicate with NSWC Crane, NSWC Corona and customers on workload assigned
+ Create data records to support technical analysis/reviews.
+ Other duties as assigned
**Qualifications**
+ Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in an engineering with five (5) to eight (8+) years of experience,however additional experience may be substituted for formal education for highly qualified candidates.
+ Desired candidate should have substantial experience in metrology science and calibration.
+ Have sufficient hardware experience to identify and solve hardware problems associated with design, development, and integration of high reliability systems.
+ Some software experience is preferred.
+ Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
+ Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts
+ Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team
Physical Demands:

+ Good understanding of current maintenance and metrology best practices and common issues addressed by Metrology
+ Familiarization with CMMS (i.e. ProCal), SAP, data historian programs is a plus
+ Experience with the specification and calibration of most of the following instruments is preferred: pressure, temperature, weight, flow, conductivity, chlorine, pH, timers and humidity
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills

**Responsibilities**
+ You will learn and understand the various metrology instruments in our lab and their capabilities and shortcomings to create measurement plans and processes to ensure quality data collection.
+ You will work with engineers and designers to understand their needs and translate that to a dimensional measurement or methodology to aid decision making.
+ You will coordinate and maintain our metrology lab and equipment to ensure accurate and precise data collection, including scheduling maintenance and calibrations.
+ You will interpret drawings per ASME Y14.5-2009 and develop measurement plans and provide feedback to work partners.
+ You will identify current trends in metrology and how the landscape is changing to make recommendations for our lab.
+ You will serve as a measurement subject matter expert to consult and teach others about measurement methods and solutions.
**Qualifications**
**Required Qualifications:**
+ Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year(s) related technical engineering experience
+ OR Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years related technical engineering experience
+ OR equivalent experience
+ 2 +years experience in mechanical design using CAD software
+ 2+ years experience with at least one type of metrology equipment (coordinate measurement machines, profilometers, 3D scanners, etc.)
**Preferred Qualifications** :
+ 8+ years related technical engineering experience
+ OR Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years related technical metrology experience

Aid in datum feature selection and use of geometric tolerances. Able to consider and provide options for gauging, vision, CMM, or other inspections. Support metrology needs with gaging and fixture designs - 3D CAD models and 2D drawings (Solid Works or NX). Track Metrology and Inspection Projects and Report on Status. **You'll be DISRUPTIVE through these duties and responsibilities:**
**Quality and Inspection Planning**
+ Supports Engineering New Product Development in Metrology through sample measurements and feedback, early on involvement in drawing and GD&T reviews, and early supplier measurement capability evaluations.
+ Develops inspection-gaging strategies to meet business needs for the business.
+ Able to articulate differences between datum reference frame and alignment options, best-fit to CAD, and measurement without datum reference frame to create a consensus on the best approach to meet design objectives
**Part Measurement and Part Qualification:**
+ Interprets drawings featuring Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5 to identify product inspection requirements.
+ Ability to break down engineering specifications - size, position, perpendicularity, profile of a surface - to understand the sub-characteristics contributing to a reported value.
+ Aids in developing new inspection techniques as required.
+ Metrology software experience (Micro-Vu Inspec, PolyWorks, Calypso, others on occasion)
+ Proposes and develops gaging options for in-process/in-plant inspections
+ Develops inspection fixtures to ensure minimum measurement error during inspection.
**Design Assistance and Training**
+ Participates in design reviews with cross-functional teams to ensure that conformance to specifications, provides input based on instrument capabilities and limitations. Leads technical dimensional measurement planning as needed.
+ Work from written or verbal instructions, detailed engineering drawings, and 3D models to establish inspection criteria and measurement implementation.
+ Maintains adequate training in metrology disciplines to ensure capability to support team and train others as needed.
**What TOOLS you'll bring with you:**
+ College or Technical degree in a field related to Engineering or Science (Preferred)
+ 3 years CAD 3D modeling and 2D detail drawing experience.

**Job Description Summary**
The metrology process engineer will be responsible for the creation and execution of inspection processes for complex additive geometries. This individual will successfully design and implement production inspection programs from point cloud data (e.g. 3D scanning, CT, and CMM data) using various industry standard softwares (e.g. Polyworks, PC-DMIS, etc.). They will be responsible for transitioning programs to offsite resources as well as maintaining and improving existing inspection programs.
This role could potentially require up to 50% travel.

+ Support site metrology priorities
+ Support creation and execution of comprehensive training plans for inspection technologies
+ Help to establish, incorporate, and proliferate metrology best practices and standards
+ Design inspection programs for additive hardware
+ Transition programs to outside sources
+ Develop, configure and optimize industrial processes from inception through to start up and certification.
+ Coordinate with design engineers and manufacturing engineers in aligning additive drawing requirements with NDT technologies, inspection capabilities, and process capability.
+ Help spec and develop inspection technologies to enable additive complexity in the future
+ Ability to assess processes, take measurements, interpret data, and document results

Corning's Display Technologies segment manufactures glass substrates for active matrix liquid crystal displays ("LCDs") that are used primarily in LCD televisions, notebook computers and flat panel desktop monitors.
**Role Purpose**
This role is vital in maintaining the quality of metal components utilized across Corning facilities globally. By developing and implementing advanced inspection methods and procedures, this position helps maintain high standards of quality control and compliance. The engineer will utilize a range of metrology tools, including calipers, micrometers, laser light scanners, and Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM), to conduct accurate measurements and ensure components meet specified tolerances.
**Roles & Responsibilities**
+ Interpret engineering drawings and blueprints that include Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) symbols.
+ Develop GD&T inspection plans and procedures for quality control.
