We Are Hiring Psychiatric Technician (Safety)!

Metropolitan State Hospital is located in the City of Norwalk.

The Department of State Hospitals-Metropolitan is now accepting applications for multiple Intermittent, Permanent Psychiatric Technician-REGISTRY positions. ***HOURS AND SALARIES MAY VARY FOR INTERMITTENT APPOINTMENTS***
Under general supervision, incumbents administer care to forensic, LPS and medically fragile patients; assist in planning and evaluation of nursing care; provide a basic level of general behavioral and psychiatric nursing care; and are expected to facilitate the rehabilitation of forensic clients and patients. Candidates must have excellent organizational skills, ability to problem solve, and good communication skills. Experience with computer systems is desired. Qualities sought are the ability to work well with others, good mediation skills, and a commitment to helping others.
Candidates must be willing to work in any Unit/Program and any shift to meet the needs of the facility.
TRAINING EXPECTATIONS: If selected it is mandatory that you attend New Employee Orientation (NEO) in its entirety. NEO can be scheduled up to 30 days for level of care staff (clinical).
Minimum Qualifications: Possession of a valid license to practice as a Psychiatric Technician issued by the BVNPTE. (Applicants who are within four months of completing the Psychiatric Technician curriculum accredited by the BVNPTE will be admitted to the examination, but they must secure this license before they will be eligible for appointment.)

Core Responsibilities
- Foster strong relationships with participants
- Lean on your own recovery experience to provide mentoring and peer support
- Connect participants with social service resources and programs
- Track participant recovery plan progress
- Participate in training and professional development throughout the year, including the Peer Recovery Support training
- Share your experience with the community
By the time you begin your service with Recovery Corps, you should be:
- In recovery for at least one uninterrupted year from a substance use disorder
- Dependable and have a history of good attendance
- Able to understand and follow instructions
- Able to set a pace and maintain a service schedule, dependong on the agreed upon hours commitment
- Have basic computer skills (like email and navigating online)
- Fluent in English for speaking, reading, and writing
- 18 years of age or older with a high school diploima or equivalent
- A citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident of the United States
- Able to successfully complete a background check
We are currently hiring for the program year. Positions run September 2025-July 2026.
