About the Mobile Network Engineering on Android position

You will build the first prototype of our mobile passive metering tool. Your time will be split:

  • 10% sharing your ideas and expertise within your team to help plan and prepare your product initiatives
  • 70% building out a passive metering tool that utilizes an on-device mobile VPN
  • 10% writing tests, doing code reviews, and continuously improving our overall code quality
  • 10% researching and improving your general software development skills
Your job is to help us build and deploy a performant on-device mobile VPN for network-level data collection on Android. In this role you will:
  • work with our mobile, data, and front-end engineers to build a design and specification for our mobile metering application
  • build the first version of our mobile passive metering tool allowing us to passively collect network traffic data from our opt-in research panelists
  • iteratively improve application security and performance to ensure a high quality end-user experience
  • deploy the mobile metering application to Google Play for Android store so our panelists can begin using it
Candidate need-to-haves:

We expect expert-level understanding of:

Department Description

The Network Services team within Infrastructure Services holds a critical role in managing, maintaining, and developing the company's computer network infrastructure, particularly ensuring reliable technical accessibility for individuals engaged in vital medical and health research work. Their core responsibilities include providing secure internet and network services, managing IT services, and maintaining data systems. They support end-users, manage system updates, repairs, and connectivity issues, and play an essential role in troubleshooting network issues, optimizing performance, and implementing protocols. They also oversee software and hardware updates, and manage data storage, disaster recovery, and network resilience. Beyond this, Network Services provides specialized technical support to other employees in the organization, with a focus on those involved in medical and health research.

Required Qualifications

Job Title: Wireless Network Engineer

Location(s): Los Angeles, CA

(Hybrid-70% onsite)



Shift:

Day 5x8-Hour (08:00 - 17:00)

Job qualification:

  • Looking for an Engineer who exclusively worked on Wi-Fi technology.

3-4 years of experience in the following:
  • Configuration and deployment of the Cisco Catalyst Wireless LAN Controllers and Cisco Wireless Access Points.
  • Wireless Network Engineer & 3-4 years of exp focused on Wireless technology and products
  • Configuration of mobility groups, WLAN profiles, RF Profiles, SSID anchoring, Wireless 802.1x, AAA & Captive Portal.
  • Configuration of Aruba 8.x Wireless Controllers, Campus & Remote Client.
  • Wireless Survey and design using tools like AirMagnet, Ekahau or Hamina.
  • Troubleshooting Wireless Client connectivity issues, roaming and able to perform/analyze Wireless PCAP.
  • Configuration of port-channel (LACP), VRRP/HSRP, and Infoblox DHCP/DNS.
  • Configuration and management of Cisco Client, Cisco Prime & Cisco Catalyst Center/DNA Center.
  • Basic configuration and troubleshooting on Cisco Nexus and Catalyst Switching platform.
  • Experience implementing 802.1x/EAP-TLS, Network Access Control using Aruba ClearPass Policy Manager or Cisco Client.

Responsibilities:
  • Configure and deploy Cisco Catalyst Wireless LAN Controllers (WLCs).
  • Configure and deploy Aruba 8.x Wireless Controllers, Aruba Campus Client and RAPs.
  • Collaborate with endpoint/business owners, support the endpoint testing and migration in collaboration with Network, Firewall teams.
  • Perform Wi-Fi Survey to identify coverage gaps, channel overlap and overall network health. (Using Ekahau Pro).
  • Provide the survey findings and propose the remediation/optimization plan with the predictive design. (Using Ekahau AI Pro).
  • Refresh end of life Wireless hardware in coordination with network, facilities and cabling/installation vendor.
  • Provide Wireless network operational supporting end user tickets related to connectivity, authentication, roaming, slowness and other network related problems.
  • Configure and deploy Cisco Catalyst Wireless Controller in DMZ for Guest traffic anchoring.
  • Create new IP Subnet, DHCP scope in Infoblox IPAM/DHCP.
  • Deploy Aruba UXI & Wyebot Sensors in the Clinics and Hospitals.

Job Summary:
As Network Engineer, you will design, implement, and maintain enterprise-grade wireless networks. You will ensure optimal wireless performance, security, and scalability while supporting wireless and switching infrastructure. Your work directly supports business continuity, operational efficiency, and IT modernization.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in knowledge transfer and training staff in implementations, maintenance, troubleshooting, and support of LAN/WAN
  • Collaborate with security teams to enforce wireless access control and compliance policies
  • Design, implement, and maintain enterprise wireless networks using Aruba and Cisco solutions
  • Develop and maintain wireless network documentation, including configurations and procedures
  • Monitor and optimize WLAN performance to ensure seamless connectivity and high availability
  • Troubleshoot complex wireless network issues using packet capture and RF analysis tools
  • Understand networking protocols and technologies, including wireless and switching. Install, configure, and maintain access points and switches

Qualifications (required):

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology (or related field)
  • Ability and willingness to mentor more junior engineers
  • 10+ years' experience in:

    • Wireless network design, implementation, and troubleshooting
    • Aruba and Cisco wireless infrastructure (controllers, APs, authentication mechanisms)
    • WLAN protocol configuration and optimization
    • Enterprise-grade IP network administration
    • VLAN segmentation, network security, NAC solutions (e.g., ClearPass)


Qualifications (preferred):

  • Desired Certifications: CCNA, CCNA, Aruba ACMP, CWNA
  • Advanced knowledge of 802.11 protocols, RF design, Ekahau, warehousing wireless environments
  • Experience troubleshooting within a warehouse environment
  • Hands-on work with controller and cloud-managed wireless platforms
  • Prior NOC Experience

Additional:

  • Occasional overnight travel for internal trainings and meetings. Must have ability to travel independently as needed, without restriction by all modes of transportation.
