Position Summary

Music Instructor will work with preschool director to scheduling a few days of the week to teach and engage with children in the preschool classroom. Schedule will be twice a week, 3 hours each day, spending 15-30 minutes in each classroom. Teaching is aimed to develop listening skills, language skills, body coordination, pitch matching, and music language familiarity at the level of each classroom age.

Essential Function

• The receptivity of the classes various styles and ideas differs with each year. Picking up on their responses is very important.
• Use our bodies as instruments, clicking, patting, and making different sounds with our mouths.
• In teaching songs, we always talk about the meaning of the words and also any stories that are connected with them. A good philosophy is that we should always understand what we sing!
• Work on both content and ability level with the classroom teachers, and try to support their current teaching subjects.
• Teach songs appropriate to age level.
• Teach motions to songs to enhance learning experience or body coordination and control.
• Engage students at their level using creative tools and instruments.
• Emphasize great importance on matching pitch, listening skills and copying.
• Emphasize teaching with pure vocal sound (without backing tracks whenever possible), at a pitch appropriate for small children, is easier for them to hear than the clutter of noise in recorded music.
• Work with Preschool Director and each classroom teacher to prepare students for two performance each year Christmas and June Celebration (graduation).

Working Conditions

Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead. Ability to operate computer, fax and telephone. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.

Minimum Qualifications

• Over 18 years old
• GED or HS diploma
• Criminal background check is required with certification for Protect the Mission policies and procedures.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience teaching music and working with preschool age children

School of Rock is looking for an enthusiastic Instructor for our Little Wing (ages 4-5) and Rookies (ages 6-7) classes. The School of Rock Little Wing and Rookies Instructors will help create a warm, supportive and inspiring environment for young musicians aged 4-7. School of Rock’s Little Wing and Rookies programs encourage young children to reach their developmental milestones through fun musical activities and playing rock and roll musical instruments. We teach five core areas at School of Rock - keys, vocals, guitar, bass and drums. Many of our instructors have broader musical talent as well which we do our best to engage.

Music Instruction:

• Be sure the students are learning the fundamentals of music, not just songs

• 4 + years’ experience teaching and/or performing music professionally

• Classroom/early childhood education experience preferred.

• Knowledge of music theory and curriculum design; concepts in music like rhythm, notation, pop and rock genres

• Excellent ability to deal well with a wide range of customers, including but not limited to, children and parents

Private voice/piano/guitar/drum, etc. Instructor for music academy geared toward students of all ages in Orange County. Music Instructor will work with The Salvation Army music school director to schedule days of the week to teach and engage with children and adults.

Pay Range and Hours

This is a part-time employee position, 3-15 hours per week depending on student enrollment and teacher schedule. $30-$6 per hour, DOE.

Essential Functions

• Planning and preparing lessons based on students’ needs, aims and abilities.
• Acquiring teaching materials and resources.
• Teaching music theory, listening skills and practical musicianship.
• Preparing students for practice, recitals and performances.
• Motivating students and encouraging progress in a positive environment.
• Attending staff meetings.
• Communicating with parents and music school leads.
• Planning for and/or arranging recitals and concerts for students’ families and friends.
• Being responsible for musical instruments and room while teaching.

Working Conditions

Ability to sit for long periods of time with breaks, and walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Minimum Qualifications

• EDUCATION – AA or BA degree in Music preferred. Equivalent knowledge and experience are highly considered.
• EXPERIENCE – Three years of teaching experience preferred.
• Demonstrate practical and theoretical knowledge of music performance and teaching. Communicate instrumental and vocal techniques to students in a positive learning environment.
• Bilingual/Bi-literate English/Spanish a plus.
