We are seeking a Software Engineer to be part of a pivotal Cyber engineering team tasked with building new security architectures across large Naval Submarine subsystems. This cutting-edge technology fosters a common, open-architecture system that enhances interoperability during joint operations with integrated fighting forces. Essentially, this system acts as the central nervous system of a submarine, allowing seamless connectivity between all subsystems. The engineers will leverage their expertise to design the submarine's network system and create a private cloud for edge communication.
Responsibilities
+ Design, enhance, and plan computer network communications, including creating specifications and schematics for network architecture on multiple subsystems.
+ Evaluate and recommend network hardware and software selections, implementation techniques, and tools to efficiently meet tactical programmatic needs, considering present and future capacity requirements.
+ Monitor and maintain networks, manage configurations, provide network support and problem resolution, analyze system performance, evaluate performance metrics, and conduct failure analysis on SWFTS network for the SE&I program.
+ Interface with customers, developers, and support programs to ensure optimal communication flow between subsystems.
+ Conduct performance and failover testing of network devices and assess their impact on system stability.
+ Maintain technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware/software interconnection and interfaces, including firewalls, routers, switches, gateways, middleware, and OSI layer 1/2/3/4 functionality.
+ Evaluate and recommend new technologies to enhance network system performance and monitoring capabilities.
+ Document network processes for working group presentations and exchanges.
Essential Skills
+ Bachelor's degree in IT or Engineering from an accredited institution.
+ 8+ years of Network Integration experience with various network protocol standards.
+ Experience in analyzing VLANs, spanning-tree, routing (both static and dynamically implemented protocols), ACLs, IP addressing, and subnetting.
+ Proficiency in packet analysis tools such as Wireshark or Sniffers.
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Network development and integration experience with various network protocol standards including TCP/IP, HSRP/VRRP, RIP, OSPF, BGP, RSTP (802.1w), MSTP (802.1s), DHCP, 802.1q tagging, multicast, PAgP or LACP (EtherChannel), QoS and Active-Active technologies (vPC and IRF).
+ Strong network troubleshooting and problem identification skills.
+ Familiarity with network device vendors such as Cisco and Arista.
+ Knowledge of 1/10/25/40/100 Gig protocols, serial and satellite links, cable standards, and optical specifications/requirements.
+ Familiarity with Linux OS, SNMP, Python is advantageous.
+ Knowledge of TCP/UDP protocol packet format is desirable.
+ Understanding of Software Defined Networking using OVS is a plus.
+ Knowledge of Kubernetes is a plus.
Work Environment
This role offers a hybrid work environment with typically 3 days in the lab and 1 day from home. The schedule consists of 4-day work weeks with 10-hour days, providing flexibility while requiring onsite presence when working.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $70.00 - $90.00/hr.

The U.S. Air Force Central Command's Network Operations and Security Center (AFCENT NOSC) executes the full-spectrum of information technology (IT) services management and operations for AFCENT networks 24 hour-a-day, 7 day-a-week (24/7), and is tasked by USCENTCOM to provide information assurance (IA) boundary intrusion detection and intrusion prevention for USCENTCOM components. Comprised of NOSC operations, operations support, cybersecurity, network engineering, and command support functions, the AFCENT NOSC plans, engineers, installs, integrates, operates and maintains, protects and manages enterprise-wide network and systems architecture, infrastructure and services; and provides enterprise-level oversight to its subordinate and supported communications support activities. In support of steady state, contingency and emergency operations, the AFCENT NOSC also deploys personnel to locations in the USCENTCOM Area of Responsibility (AOR) to install, integrate, upgrade/update, patch and sustain its supported enterprise networks, systems and services. Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

+ BS degree in a related field.
+ DCWF KSAT Category: 651
+ Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) and ITIL Foundations Certifications.
+ 5 or more years of relevant experience and understanding with:
+ Installation of Microsoft Windows Server in Host and Compute Environments, and Windows Server using server images.

The leader in this position will lead a team of highly professional and seasoned Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) working in these technology areas, helping build out our labs, test plans, and execute on test cases as well as identifying the strategy to help with field issue reproduction.
The CONNECT team is leading the industry in building a truly intelligent network that enables many new products and services. As the network becomes more complex, we need to ensure that the adoption of new technology like FDX RPDs and amps occurs seamlessly without impact to the existing customer experience or operations.
