The NDT Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) and Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) personnel, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, specifications, and military defense industry standards. This role manages daily inspection operations, coordinates workload scheduling, ensures accurate documentation, and upholds the highest levels of quality, safety, and regulatory compliance. The NDT Supervisor plays a critical role in supporting production, quality assurance, and customer requirements for complex defense manufacturing projects.
Essential Functions:
- Supervise, mentor, and provide technical direction to NDT and CWI personnel to ensure accurate and efficient inspections.
- Plan and assign work based on production schedules, project deadlines, and customer priorities.
- Review and approve inspection reports, records, and test results to verify compliance with applicable codes, engineering drawings, and military standards.
- Assist NDT Coordinator in ensuring all NDT methods (such as VT, MT, PT, UT, RT) are performed according to approved procedures and industry standards (AWS, ASNT, ASTM, MIL-STD, etc.).
- Maintain qualifications, certifications, and training records for all inspection personnel.
- Support and enforce compliance with ASNT SNT-TC-1A, AWS D1.1, NAVSEA, and other applicable military/defense specifications.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Production, and Quality teams to resolve inspection findings and recommend corrective actions.
- Support in overseeing calibration, maintenance, and availability of all NDT equipment and materials.
- Ensure adherence to all safety regulations and promote a safe working environment
- Support internal and external audits, customer source inspections, and third-party surveillance activities.
- Provide input for continuous improvement initiatives within the inspection and welding quality control processes.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (as demonstrated through experience, training and/or testing)
- Current or recent certification as Level II or Level III in at least two NDT methods per ASNT SNT-TC-1A or NAS-410.
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification required.
- Strong knowledge of welding codes, standards, and inspection practices (AWS D1.1, MIL-STD, NAVSEA, etc.).
- Familiarity with ISO 9001, AS9100, or equivalent quality management systems.
- Proficient in interpreting engineering drawings, weld symbols, and technical specifications.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to obtain and maintain any necessary security clearances required for defense manufacturing work.
- High school diploma or equivalent; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a technical field preferred.
- Prior experience in a military/defense manufacturing or shipbuilding environment preferred.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in NDT within a plant, manufacturing or defense industry environment, including at least 1 years in a supervisory or lead role.
- Must undergo and meet company standards for background check, employment verification, reference checks and controlled substance testing.

Basic Qualifications
- Associate's Degree or Technical (Military/ Trade School) Degree or High School Diploma/GED
- 1+ years of relevant technician work experience in a critical environment (example: hospital, manufacturing, petrol/chemical, military facility, public safety facility, etc.)

- Directly lead and manage the functional Quality organization on a day-to-day basis to meet all NADCAP AC7101 QMS & ISO 17025 standards. Facilitate through Operations, Engineering, and Customer Service / Supply Chain leadership, full integration of Quality Management System (QMS) into value streams.
- Serve as the primary Quality leader for risk / problem identification, resolution, and loss reporting.
- Functional management representative responsible for compliance of products and processes used by the location internally and externally.
- Manage budget, costs and expenditures within the Quality function and applicable functional support requirements.
- Lead and drive Productivity initiatives.
- Work with functional managers to design, implement and document procedures and methodology for process control, improvement adherence, and control for all phases of internal production, material testing, and external supply chain processes.

Requirements
- BS/BA in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or Business Administration required.
- 5+ years of Quality management experience required.
- Must have experience working in a lab that has Approvals from NADCAP; must have experience leading NADCAP audits (from the employer perspective), and all other audits, e.g., internal, supplier, etc.; Must have experience with materials testing, specifically, metals, e.g., titanium, aluminum, etc.
- Must have demonstrated effective root-cause analysis / skills. This is truly a fast paced environment, so highly effective organizational skills are a must to be successful.
- ASQ certification preferred.
- MS degree in related field preferred.
- Experience managing and maintaining NADCAP certified processes.
- Destructive Testing experience highly preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to communicate with people at all levels.
- Broad working knowledge of problem-solving tools, theory and principles of statistics and statistical process control.

The Work
In this position, located in Stratford, Connecticut, you will support the NDT scope of work on legacy helicopter platforms, and on emerging platforms, such as CH53K, and other new programs. You will perform engineering evaluation including defect analysis, nondestructive testing (NDT) methods analysis, and inspection (when inspection is required must have a minimum NAS-410 Level II certification). Prepare, revise, review and approve Non-destructive technique sheets including evaluation of supplier techniques and procedures. Prepare and review engineering specifications. Provide technical support to manufacturing, engineering, programs, field personnel, and suppliers. Audit internal and external NDT inspection facilities. Testing and certifying NDT level I, II, and III inspectors in accordance with NAS 410 and company requirements. Must be willing to travel domestically and internationally to conduct NDT business.

Basic Qualifications:
• Hold at least 2 NAS-410 Level 3 certifications one of which must be Ultrasonic Testing (UT), and either Eddy Current Testing (ET), Radiographic Testing (RT), Magnetic Particle (MT).
