**Overview**
**Be part of the nation's only repository for the disposal of nuclear waste known as Transuranic (TRU) waste.**
Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, LLC (SIMCO), managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as a **_Nuclear Safety Engineer_** and join our team located in Carlsbad, New Mexico.
**Responsibilities**
The successful candidate will work within the Nuclear Safety organization with duties to include: document/procedure preparation and reviews, perform Unreviewed Safety Question Determinations and Screenings, Project Safety Design Evaluations (DOE-STD-1189) and Potential Inadequate in the Safety Analysis (PISA) documents. Perform High Material at Risk (MAR) evaluations, and necessary document preparations to support the development or changes to the WIPP Documented Safety Analysis (DSA) and Technical Safety Requirement (TSR) documents when necessary. Requires interaction and coordination with various site organizations, e.g., Engineering, Work Control, Operations, QA, Maintenance, Packaging and Transportation, and Regulatory Environmental Services. Expectation includes: Addressing Compliance issues from internal and external sources, overviewing internal and external reviews of nuclear safety programs; following corrective actions through completion or resolution, and assuring auditable documentation in maintained.
**Minimum Requirements**

+ Bachelor's degree in Physical Science or Engineering with five (5) years of professional experience* is required.
+ Professional experience must include two (2) years of job-related experience (e.g., interpreting, creating, evaluating and revising technical documents; addressing compliance-related issues, or implementing critical safety requirements).
+ Three (3) years of WIPP site experience is required.
**This position is included in the Training Implementation Matrix (TIM) therefore alternatives to education and nuclear experience may be reviewed and met in accordance with company policy MP 4.7.
+ Alternatives to Education: (1) Professional engineers license or successful completion of Engineer in Training examination for a baccalaureate or associate degree requirement, (2) Related experience may substitute for education at the rate of six semester credit hours for each year of experience up to a maximum of 60 credit hours, and (3) When combined with experience, completion of technical portions of an engineering, engineering technology, or related science program may substitute for the baccalaureate or associate degree. Successful completion must be determined by a transcript or certification by an accrediting organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or the United States Department of Education. Completion of 80 semester credit hours may be substituted for the baccalaureate requirement and 43 semester credit hours for the associate degree (in technical subjects related to the position). **Upload transcript or identify number of credit hours on resume to be considered for a substitution of experience for education.**
+ Alternatives to Nuclear Requirements: (1) Where course work is related to job assignments, post-secondary education may be substituted. Formal education must not be allowed to substitute for more than 50 percent of the experience requirement, except as otherwise provided in the "Table 1 Notes" set forth in "APPENDIX 1" of the TIM, and (2) Job-related training in the position sought may qualify as the equivalent to nuclear experience on a one-for-one basis for up to a maximum of two years.

**Preferred Requirements**
+ Broad, experience-based knowledge of WIPP operations and engineering principles, methods and associated regulatory requirements as desired.
+ Knowledge of company practices and policies; use and/or understanding and knowledge of the DSA/TSR is preferred.
+ Five (5) years of experience at a DOE Hazard Category I or II Facility is preferred.
+ Oral communication skills preferred.

Amentum is seeking a highly motivated, team-oriented Nuclear Safety Engineer 2 to support projects in the Oak Ridge, TN office. The Engineer will provide technical support for U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) facilities and projects in safety-based development to ensure safe operations. The Engineer must have demonstrated experience in preparing documents to support the development of or changes to Documented Safety Analysis (DSA) and Technical Safety Requirement (TSR) documents, performing Hazard Analysis (HA) to support Safety Basis development, and supporting Operations in the implementation of Safety Basis changes.
Essential Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain safety basis documents and safety basis program procedures.
With minimal supervision, perform hazard analyses of nuclear operations, define functional specifications, and recommend credited controls to mitigate unacceptable hazards.
Develop a portion or section of an analysis or nuclear safety review.
Assist in the generation of accident analysis and engineering data.
Assist in the preparation of reports and correspondence.
Identify and describe the interrelationship of safety basis requirements to existing and new designs and operations.
Develop, maintain, and produce technical documentation and system/subsystem specifications.
Interface with customers in nuclear safety reviews and technical working group meetings to comply with requirements.
Verify and comply with engineering documentation standards and nuclear safety procedures.
Mentor Junior Nuclear Safety Analysts in Safety Basis development and maintenance.
Ensure the product and service quality meets customer's requirements and expectations.
Perform all other position-related duties as assigned or requested.
Qualifications:
BS/BA in engineering or equivalent technical discipline and 3+ years of relevant work experience
MS/MA in engineering or equivalent technical discipline and 2+ years of relevant work experience
Other Requirements:
Good communication and analytical skills; knowledgeable about Microsoft Office applications.
Individuals must be capable of obtaining a DOE site security badge. The position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance. Due to the nature of the work, the candidate must be a US Citizen; dual Citizenship is not permitted.
Preferred Experience:
Demonstrating familiarity with DOE Nuclear Safety Analysis requirements, including DOE-STD-3009.
Supporting completion of nuclear facility documented safety analyses (DSAs) and technical safety requirements (TSRs) updates, revisions, or creation.
Working with support organizations to ensure DSA and TSR projects are completed and submitted to the Department of Energy (DOE) for approval on schedule.
Leading all aspects of reviews and ensuring the preparation of DSAs and TSRs accurately reflect the facility configuration and establish the necessary controls.
Reviewing procedures, operational events, and facility modifications to support DSA and TSR implementation.
Establishing objectives, setting priorities, and advising management of nuclear safety issues.
Developing and maintaining effective collaboration with facility system engineers, facility operations, supporting organization, subcontractor personnel, and DOE oversight personnel.
Providing support and input, including requirements management, to identify and implement improvements to current procedures and processes, performing programmatic assessments, and conducting training associated with nuclear safety requirements.
Frequently working with other organizations, tracking, and reporting status, and ensuring projects meet schedule commitments.
Conducting facility hazard identification, assessment, and accident analyses and classification. Ensuring that all hazards are identified and adequately addressed, and that identification, assessment and analyses are adequately documented.

SHINE Technologies is seeking a Nuclear Safety Analysis Engineer to provide the development and application of nuclear safety analysis methodologies for safe and effective operations of the subcritical fission processes and accelerator technology for the production of medical isotopes. This work includes transient and accident analysis, dose analysis, nuclear criticality safety analysis, and integrated safety analysis.

The base salary range for this position is $70,000 - $138,500 per year plus a comprehensive compensation package. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Specific duties and responsibilities of the Nuclear Safety Analysis Engineer include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform system analyses of anticipated transients and postulated accidents to demonstrate that safety and licensing requirements are satisfied
  • Perform radiological and chemical dose calculations for normal and accidental releases
  • Support of nuclear criticality safety evaluations and analysis, including development and evaluation of computer models
  • Support Integrated Safety Analysis (ISA) activities including hazard evaluations (e.g., HAZOP, FMEA), process hazard analyses (PHA), and accident sequence development.
  • Systems analysis to include thermal hydraulics, modeling, heat transfer, transient kinetics, two-phase flow, system protection characteristics, and plant control system functions
  • Perform hand calculations using first principles to support and validate analysis results
  • Perform code benchmarking and validation analyses to support code qualification and methodology development
  • Contribute to licensing documents for NRC review and approval that describe how the suite of nuclear analysis codes will be applied along with inputs, models, and correlations to establish the design bases

Requirements:

  • B.S. degree in Nuclear Engineering or related discipline from an accredited institution at a minimum
  • Five (5) years of experience in nuclear safety analysis
  • Experience using MCNP and/or SCALE nuclear analysis codes
  • Demonstrated technical writing skills.
  • Familiarity with nuclear engineering design, operations, regulatory requirements, and industry precedents.
  • Basic knowledge of NRC Rules, Regulations, Organization, Processes, Procedures, Instructions, Inspections, Enforcement, and understanding of relevant portions of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Strong data management and computer skills
  • Must be skilled in the use of Microsoft desktop software

Preferences

  • Familiarity with NUREG-1520 or DOE-STD-2009 for the development of
  • Familiarity with ANSI/ANS 8 series on nuclear criticality safety
  • Experience performing MCNP benchmarks using the ICSBEP benchmarks
  • Experience developing radioactive dose calculations including five-factor formula, source term development, and radioactive material transport, including use of standards and guides such as FGR 11 and 12 and DOE-HDBK-3010
  • Previous training through the Nuclear Criticality Safety Program (NCSP)
  • Previous training in performing or facilitating process hazards analysis (PHA), including HAZOP or FMEA

Eligibility for employment is conditioned on the applicant’s ability to qualify for access to information subject to U.S. Export Controls. Additionally, applicant’s eligibility may be conditioned based upon meeting the Nuclear Regulatory Commission requirements for access to Safeguards Information, which typically requires a pre-employment drug screen, fingerprinting and criminal background check.
