**Overview**
**Be part of the nation's only repository for the disposal of nuclear waste known as Transuranic (TRU) waste.**
Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, LLC (SIMCO), managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as a **_Nuclear Safety Engineer_** and join our team located in Carlsbad, New Mexico.
**Responsibilities**
The successful candidate will work within the Nuclear Safety organization with duties to include: document/procedure preparation and reviews, perform Unreviewed Safety Question Determinations and Screenings, Project Safety Design Evaluations (DOE-STD-1189) and Potential Inadequate in the Safety Analysis (PISA) documents. Perform High Material at Risk (MAR) evaluations, and necessary document preparations to support the development or changes to the WIPP Documented Safety Analysis (DSA) and Technical Safety Requirement (TSR) documents when necessary. Requires interaction and coordination with various site organizations, e.g., Engineering, Work Control, Operations, QA, Maintenance, Packaging and Transportation, and Regulatory Environmental Services. Expectation includes: Addressing Compliance issues from internal and external sources, overviewing internal and external reviews of nuclear safety programs; following corrective actions through completion or resolution, and assuring auditable documentation in maintained.

+ Bachelor's degree in Physical Science or Engineering with five (5) years of professional experience* is required.
+ Professional experience must include two (2) years of job-related experience (e.g., interpreting, creating, evaluating and revising technical documents; addressing compliance-related issues, or implementing critical safety requirements).
+ Three (3) years of WIPP site experience is required.
**This position is included in the Training Implementation Matrix (TIM) therefore alternatives to education and nuclear experience may be reviewed and met in accordance with company policy MP 4.7.
+ Alternatives to Education: (1) Professional engineers license or successful completion of Engineer in Training examination for a baccalaureate or associate degree requirement, (2) Related experience may substitute for education at the rate of six semester credit hours for each year of experience up to a maximum of 60 credit hours, and (3) When combined with experience, completion of technical portions of an engineering, engineering technology, or related science program may substitute for the baccalaureate or associate degree. Successful completion must be determined by a transcript or certification by an accrediting organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or the United States Department of Education. Completion of 80 semester credit hours may be substituted for the baccalaureate requirement and 43 semester credit hours for the associate degree (in technical subjects related to the position). **Upload transcript or identify number of credit hours on resume to be considered for a substitution of experience for education.**
+ Alternatives to Nuclear Requirements: (1) Where course work is related to job assignments, post-secondary education may be substituted. Formal education must not be allowed to substitute for more than 50 percent of the experience requirement, except as otherwise provided in the "Table 1 Notes" set forth in "APPENDIX 1" of the TIM, and (2) Job-related training in the position sought may qualify as the equivalent to nuclear experience on a one-for-one basis for up to a maximum of two years.

**Preferred Requirements**
+ Broad, experience-based knowledge of WIPP operations and engineering principles, methods and associated regulatory requirements as desired.
+ Knowledge of company practices and policies; use and/or understanding and knowledge of the DSA/TSR is preferred.
+ Five (5) years of experience at a DOE Hazard Category I or II Facility is preferred.
+ Oral communication skills preferred.

**COMPENSATION**

System One is seeking to contract with a Senior Nuclear Safety Analysis Engineer responsible for performing safety analyses of our client's Demonstration reactor, and support design transients analysis, Structures, Systems and Components (SSC) classification, development of analytical models and methods, as well as uncertainty quantification and sensitivity calculation.
Responsibilities
+ Develop system models and perform safety analysis of Anticipated Operational Occurrence (AOO), Design Basis Event (DBE), and Design Basis Accident (DBA) for the Demonstration reactor.
+ Collaborate with cross-functional teams to establish core and reactor SSC functional, performance, safety, and quality requirements as well as support the overall design.
+ Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate NEI 18-04 Licensing Basis Event (LBE) analyses and findings into licensing documentation and project design activities.
+ Contribute to the safety method development, such as code assessment, scaling analysis, code verification and validation activities, etc.
+ Develop and maintain documentation of model development and analysis results.
+ Perform engineering reviews of other engineering analysis and design deliverables, such as ASME design transients
+ Assess plant transient benchmark tests, identify applicable tests relevant to the reactor and perform benchmark calculations.
+ Contribute to our client's software framework implementation of capabilities required for transient and accident analysis.
Key Qualifications and Skills
+ Extensive experience in nuclear safety analysis, nuclear reactor system modeling.
+ Significant experience with safety analysis software such as RELAP5, TRACE, TRAC, SAS4A/SASSYS-1, or other nuclear system analysis software.
+ Experience in transient and accident analysis for submittals to NRC, such as Chapter 15 in the Final Safety Analysis Report (FSAR), is highly desired.
+ Knowledgeable of nuclear systems thermal-hydraulic fundamentals as well as reactor dynamics and transient phenomena.
+ Knowledgeable of nuclear reactor core physics such as neutron transport theory and reactivity feedback.
+ Knowledgeable of nuclear reactor instrumentation and control systems, and related modeling approaches in the safety analysis computer code.
+ Familiarity with nuclear design, regulatory requirements, and risk-informed performance-based technology guidance for Non-Light Water Reactors is required.
+ Familiarity with EMDAP and Regulatory Guide 1.203 is preferred.
+ Experience with SFR safety analysis or methods is highly desirable. Experience with other reactor designs, such as Light Water Reactors (LWRs), can be considered when differentiating candidates.
+ Demonstrated strong quantitative, analytical, modeling and reporting skills.
+ Understanding NQA-1 requirements associated with analysis and software management as well as experience working under a quality assurance program.
+ Experience in working in multi-disciplinary engineering teams to address engineering challenges.
+ Strong software engineering skills in any language, such as Python, Fortran, or C++, is a plus.
+ B.S., M.S. or Ph.D. in nuclear engineering, or other relevant engineering degree, with a minimum of 5 years' experience in the nuclear field.

System One is seeking a Senior Nuclear Safety Analysis Engineer for a long-term, fully remote contract. Must have significant experience with safety analysis codes such as SAS4A/SASSYS-1, GOTHIC, RELAP5, TRACE, MELCOR, MACCS, RADTRAD or equivalent and at least 15+ years of experience in the nuclear field.
The successful candidate will be part of a growing team supporting the design and licensing of the demonstration reactor and is primarily responsible for performing design and licensing analyses and developing associated methodologies in the following areas:
+ Analysis of design and licensing basis events
+ Mechanistic source terms
+ Radiological release and consequences
The Senior Safety Analysis Engineer may also contribute subject matter expertise to other projects under development to include, but are not limited to, performing accident analyses, contributing to software qualification, participating in hazard analysis, participating to Structures, Systems and Components (SSC) classification, as well as performing verification and validation activities.
Responsibilities
+ Perform transient and accident analyses to meet the safety analysis needs of the SFR program.
+ Develop analytical and computational models in collaboration with safety analysis engineers.
+ Develop methodologies using a graded approach to the Evaluation Model Development and Assessment Process (EMDAP).
+ Collaborate with safety verification and validation engineers to develop assessment bases (benchmark, identify applicable tests, etc.) and asses the evaluation model.
+ Work with an interdisciplinary team of engineers to establish core and reactor SSC functional, performance, safety, and quality requirements as well as support the overall design.
+ Establish and maintain analysis of record and methodology documentation.
+ Perform engineering reviews of analyses and other engineering design media.
+ Contribute, as needed, to the implementation of capabilities required for transient and accident analysis within our client's software framework.
Key Qualifications and Skills
+ M.S. or Ph.D. in nuclear engineering, or other relevant engineering degree, with at least 15+ years of experience in the nuclear field.
+ Knowledgeable of nuclear systems thermal-hydraulic, fuel performance, reactor dynamics, and transient phenomena.
+ Direct experience with the US NRC on design and analysis methodology licensing topical report(s) is required.
