THE ORGANIZATION
Children First’s North Star goal is for all people and organizations in St. Louis Park and Hopkins, MN and the surrounding communities to be knowledgeable, strategically aligned and actively involved in increasing positive outcomes for children and youth, ensuring that kids feel included, valued and deeply connected to our caring community.
Park Partnership for Success is Children First’s bold and innovative data-informed, cross-sector cradle to career partnership closing the race, ethnicity and poverty opportunity gaps so that all kids in St. Louis Park and the surrounding communities can realize their brilliance. Our partners work collectively to improve the success of students and enrich the talent pipeline in our community. This position is critical to the success of our mission.
A FEW IMPORTANT DETAILS
Time commitment: Estimated 1 hour per month plus any time you spend on advancing the mission of the group.
Compensation: This role is not paid and does not have employment benefits.
Term of membership: We would like consistent participation from the group that you represent, preferably by the same person. This group does not have term limits.
THE ROLE
Children First is looking for dedicated community members who want to create positive change in the lives of children and families in St. Louis Park and the surrounding communities. The Early Years Action Network is a cross-sector group that works to eliminate disparities in experiences and outcomes for children from birth through late elementary school ages. We know that most of the architecture of a person's brain is built from prenatal to age three and that a child who starts school on par with their peers has better life-long outcomes.
As a member of the Early Years Action Network (EYAN), you represent an important segment of our diverse community. EYAN members participate in a monthly hour-long Zoom meeting during which time the group works its way through a Collaborative Improvement process focused on ensuring that every child in St. Louis Park enters Kindergarten ready to succeed academically, social-emotionally, and physically. The group will later add a focus on ensuring that all children read proficiently by the end of third grade.
The group uses a data-informed approach that combines quantitative data and focus population voice to ensure that those with the most information on the issue are at the center of decision making about EYAN investments and action.
Members sign a Partnership Agreement to signify their commitment to the values of the group. Our work is grounded in equity and there might be additional learning required to help carry out the work of the group.
