JOB OBJECTIVE: This is a tenure track position. Provide guidance, instruction and leadership to registered nursing students enrolled in the Associate of Applied Science in Nursing (AASN) program at the assigned program site. Assist with evaluation, scheduling, and advising of students. Provide classroom, lab, and clinical instruction to students enrolled in the AASN program utilizing team teaching methodology in an academic environment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Teaching
- Instruction in theory and clinical practice in Fundamentals or Medical Surgical Nursing and one or more of the following nursing areas:
- Emergency Nursing, Critical Care, Pediatrics, Mental Health, Women's Health or Gerontology/Geriatrics or other nursing practice specialty.
- Instruction may include:
- All aspects of nursing care, including but not limited to; personal hygiene, client abuse, human sexuality, cultural diversity, ethnicity, nutrition (nursing, therapeutic aspects), pharmacology, legal, social and ethical aspects of nursing, and nursing leadership and management.
- Assist in the direction of student activities ordinarily associated with an instructional program on the community college or university level.
- Participation in departmental activities associated with the instructional program.
- Instruct and supervise R.N. nursing students in the clinical agency, laboratory, simulation, and community settings.
- Function under the direction of the nursing program academic coordinators, the director of nursing, and the dean of the school
- Communicate clearly and professionally with students and colleagues.
- Work effectively with traditional and non-traditional students, including but not limited to the culturally and ethnically diverse.
- Engage in the College's mission and values
- Demonstrate a willingness and commitment to extra-curricular responsibilities on behalf of the nursing program, college and district.
- Participate in professional organizations related to nursing and teaching.
- Adapt quickly to changes in the nursing program.
- Apply theories and principles of learning to instruction.
- Adapt instruction to the entry level knowledge and skills of students.
- Recommend course and program changes to the appropriate committees, academic coordinators, director of the program, and the dean of the school when appropriate.
- Develop syllabi which meet college requirements, the Tennessee Board of Regents Common Curriculum for Nursing, and student needs.
- Use alternative instructional strategies where appropriate.
- Inform students of special instructional resources located in the Educational Resources Center and/or the Learning and Testing Center.
- Orient students to objectives and procedures before beginning instruction.
- Establish and communicate clearly defined grading procedures and standards.
- Use evaluations to revise and update content, objectives, and instructional strategies.
- Give examinations and other types of evaluations necessary to determine student level of performance and understanding.
- Keep students aware of their progress in the course through consistent use of the learning management system gradebook, and ongoing communication. Perform record-keeping responsibilities related to teaching and advising.
- Respond in a timely fashion to all reasonable deadlines.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Advising
Be available to students by maintaining office hours that are reasonably convenient. Post and adhere to required hours, whether virtual or in the office. Be knowledgeable of the College policies, procedures, and assistance available to students. Assist advisees with the scheduling of classes. Monitor the academic progress of advisees. Hold conferences with students as needed.
Faculty Service Serve on committees and task forces as appointed by the president, director of nursing, and the dean of the school. Use professional knowledge and skills to contribute to local and professional community activities whenever appropriate. Attend faculty meetings as scheduled. Contribute to the advancement of college goals through appropriate individual goals.
Professional Development (Teaching and Discipline)
Participate in professional development. Other objective to be agreed upon by faculty members and immediate supervisors in the development of personal, departmental, and divisional objectives.
JOB STANDARDS:
A. All full-time and part-time faculty must have completed at least 18 graduate semester hours in their teaching field and hold a master's degree in nursing from a regionally accredited college/university.
B. Endorsed with appropriate credentials of an unencumbered RN licensure in the State of Tennessee, American Heart Association CPR certification for healthcare professionals, advanced preparation and experience in a nursing practice specialty area.
CRITICAL SKILLS/EXPERTISE/EXPERIENCE:
- One-year teaching experience in a pre-licensure program preferred.
- Three years' related work experience as an RN preferred.
- Acute Care Clinical Experience (within the past 3 years) preferred.
B. This employee should have strong interpersonal and communication skills, have good organizational skills, and be capable of handling multiple projects at one time.
C. To ensure that all faculty are proficient in oral and written English, the following guidelines are to be used during the selection process to evaluate candidates:
a. Ability to speak and write English clearly
b. Ability to understand written and spoken English
c. Ability to communicate effectively in an academic environment (for example, previous successful employment in an academic institution).
D. The successful candidate must provide evidence of an active, unencumbered Tennessee nursing license during the hiring process. Candidates with a multistate license who have changed or may be changing their primary state of residence to Tennessee must apply for a multistate license in Tennessee within 60 days of relocation. Proof of current licensure or application must be provided within 15 days of hire for continued employment.
JOB LOCATION: The primary job location may start at the Strawberry Plains Campus, Magnolia Avenue Campus or the Blount County Campus; however, the instructor may be assigned classes at other sites, and be requested to teach in any area of the nursing program to meet the needs of the students and the nursing program.
EQUIPMENT: The primary job location will provide an office for the faculty member. This location may change based on the needs of the nursing program and students.

Primary Responsibility
Colorado Mountain College is seeking full-time faculty to join our nursing faculty team at the Steamboat Springs campus. With teaching and learning at the center of what we do, chosen candidates will join a team of 13 full-time faculty and over 15 part-time faculty across three campuses, dedicated to inspiring and educating the next generation of highly skilled, caring, and compassionate nurses.
This full-time faculty position will begin in January 2026 with a 30-credit hour (170 day contract per Board Policy 4.12) teaching load annually.
Nursing faculty work under the supervision of the Dean of Nursing, who is also the Chief Nursing Officer. Major areas of instruction include classroom instruction, simulation lab and clinical teaching.
This position may include night, weekend, and teaching at alternate locations, along with possible interactive video teaching and other use of technology in teaching.
Teaching responsibilities expected of all faculty include teaching course load as assigned; evaluating courses and assessing student learning; meeting established course, program and student learning outcomes; complying with guidelines and policies; maintaining office hours per established standards; developing rapport with students; assisting with and participating in advising; participating in orientation; and registration activities.
CMC Faculty are expected to engage in scholarly endeavors as well as service activities such as campus and college committees, participation in relevant projects, peer mentoring, participation in and assist with assessment activities, program review, student organization, recruiting and retention.
Requirements:
Qualified candidates must be credentialed to teach in this program, or eligible to be credentialed. Examples of ideal qualifications include: A Masters degree in Nursing and 2000 verifiable related occupational experience hours within the past 5 years and a minimum of one year demonstrated teaching/training experience (or equivalent in part-time role).
An active, unencumbered Colorado RN license or the ability to obtain a Colorado Nursing license is required. A Doctoral degree or current enrollment in a Doctoral program is preferred. Experience with adult medical surgical populations required. Experience with pediatric patients and families preferred.

Are under the general direction of the site school discipline dean or designee;

Work with Student Services personnel in advisement of students;

Supervision of the Position
This position will report to the Dean of the School of the discipline.
Supervisory Responsibility
The position may supervise staff positions and/or student employees.
Special Conditions of Employment
Successful completion of a background check will be required as well as motor vehicles records report when applicable. Incumbents in this position will adhere to all safety and compliance policies of Colorado Mountain College while performing all duties assigned. May require travel and evening and/or weekend hours.
Working Conditions
This position requires constant sitting, occasional walking, standing and driving; occasional handling objects, pushing/pulling; frequent reaching with hands/arms, and use of finger movements; occasional lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects up to 50 lbs. Constant written and oral communication and the ability to reason and analyze and perform calculations occasionally. Work is performed using a computer and standard office equipment daily and driving a vehicle occasionally.

A. All full-time and part-time faculty must have completed at least 18 graduate semester hours in their teaching field and hold a master's degree in nursing from a regionally accredited college/university.
B. Endorsed with appropriate credentials of an unencumbered RN licensure in the State of Tennessee, American Heart Association CPR certification for healthcare professionals, advanced preparation and experience in a nursing practice specialty area.
CRITICAL SKILLS/EXPERTISE/EXPERIENCE:
A. One-year teaching experience in a pre-licensure program required.
B. Three years' related work experience as an RN preferred.
C. Acute Care Clinical Experience (within the past 3 years) preferred.
B. This employee should have strong interpersonal and communication skills, have good organizational skills, and be capable of handling multiple projects at one time.
C. To ensure that all faculty are proficient in oral and written English, the following guidelines are to be used during the selection process to evaluate candidates:

**Position Requirements**
+ Active, Current, Unencumbered Licensure: Applicable state as a Registered Nurse and per the State Board of Nursing
+ Education Qualifications: A minimum of a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) Degree is required. BSN-prepared nurses may be considered depending on the campus's needs.
+ Experiential Qualifications: Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience as a Registered Nurse, and per the State Board of Nursing
**Physical/Mental Demands and Work Environment:** If performing nursing duties related to clinical instruction (especially patient contact) hazards may include needle sticks, blood and bodily fluid exposure, or any other hazard a Registered Nurse (RN) might be exposed to in the normal performance of nursing care. Position requires mental activity, reading, planning, preparing, evaluating, and decision making. Physical demands in the classroom and office are minimal and are considered sedentary work with occasional lifting and/or carrying such articles as records, files, and books (10 pounds maximum). Operation of standard office equipment such as phone, computer, classroom projector, Scantron, and printer/scanner occurs on a frequent basis. Physical demands in the clinical area may include lifting, pulling, pushing, kneeling, stooping, crouching, bending, or any other related activity to patient care. Position requires regular attendance, and may require evening or weekend hours, and travel to clinical sites and extended classrooms.
