The RoleThe role is dynamic and interactive in nature, the Barback focuses on the guest experience and how the guest relates to the Observatory experience. This position plays an integral role in providing local, national, and international guests with a unique, memorable experience.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Provide bar supplies and provide the bartenders with items that help assure exceptional guest service specifically in the Restaurant environment - upon request
- Stock bar items daily and filling the ice bins as needed
- Anticipate needs throughout the shift
- Assist in keeping all areas clean and organized
- Know your work area and set up as instructed
- Abide by the operating standards outlined in the policy and procedure manual
- Ensure prompt, quality service is provided

The VenueAs a new addition in our fastest growing business vertical, Legends designed, built and operates Sky View Observatory ("SVO"), an innovative guest experience on the 73rd floor of the Columbia Center. SVO will set a new standard in the observatory experience in Seattle. Breathtaking 360-degree panoramic views including Mt. Rainier, Bellevue.
Responsibilities- Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks as ordered and consistent with the restaurant's standard drink recipes.
- Accept guest payment and process credit card charges
- Check identification of guests to verify age requirements for purchase of alcohol.
- Greet guests, take F&B orders from guests, and record orders accurately into the Point of Sale system.
- Maintain bottles and glasses in an attractive and functional manner to support efficient drink preparation, promotion of beverages, and attractive displays.
- Perform all opening, closing, and cleaning procedures as indicated in the Employee Training Manual.
- Ensure that the assigned bar area is fully equipped with tools and products needed for mixing beverages and serving guests.
- Report all equipment problems and bar maintenance issues to the F&B manager.

What This Role Will Do
- Performs the Load-in & Out of band equipment and rental equipment
- Set Up and Break down of Band and Event Equipment
- Cabling and patching / working together with the entire crew as a team

Position Highlights
The Large Binocular Telescope Observatory (LBTO) is among the most powerful optical/infrared telescopes in the world, with two 8.4m-diameter mirrors on a single mount, located on the summit of Mount Graham near Safford, Arizona. The Observatory features a sophisticated suite of instruments for optical and infrared imaging and spectroscopy, supported by innovative adaptive optics technologies. The LBT is driving discoveries for cosmic sources ranging from exoplanets around nearby stars, to some of the most distant galaxies in the universe. The observatory is operated by an international consortium of leading research institutions and functions administratively as part of the University of Arizona, with offices in Tucson.
The LBTO seeks an Observatory Support Junior Associate responsible for operating the Large Binocular Telescope and its systems in order to facilitate the collection of astronomical data. The OSA Junior works primarily at the observatory site on Mt Graham (3200m). The normal work schedule is a 7-night shift every third week. The OSA Junior will also support telescope and facility performance documentation and data quality monitoring and will maintain the safety of personnel and equipment during nighttime observations.

- Operate the Large Binocular Telescope on Mt Graham during the night for engineering, science operations, and international partner observing.
- Execute telescope start-up procedures at evening twilight and shutdown procedures at morning twilight.
- Work with LBT service observers and/or partner observer scientists to collect world-class astronomical data.
- Be responsible on a nightly basis for the safety of personnel and equipment.
- Serve as mountain safety officer during night operation.
- Inspect premises to identify situations potentially dangerous or injurious to personnel or equipment; make real-time decisions regarding operation of the telescope and facility and its protection from adverse conditions.
- Control access to the observing floor and the telescope.
- Respond to emergency situations and provide first aid as needed.
- Configure and operate the LBTO guiding, active optics, and adaptive optics systems.
- In consultation with the observers, monitor real-time LBTO image quality and telescope performance.
- Monitor observing weather stations, including wind velocity, humidity and amount of dust present.
- Decide if weather conditions permit safe operation of the telescope in consultation with observers and technical personnel.
- Respond to real-time changes in conditions.
- Maintain nightly and end-of-shift operational log reports, including observed science targets, weather, safety, equipment and malfunction information.
- Notify appropriate personnel of malfunctions of equipment.
- Maintain good communication with daytime mountain staff members on operational issues.

Essential Functions
- Provide an exciting, positive, and fun environment for our diverse team

- Practice safe work habits, follow all safety policies and procedures and regulations, complete company-wide safety training and any additional job specific safety training
- Demonstrate ownership of space by cleaning, re-stocking, and performing any other tasks assigned by leadership
Qualifications
- High school graduate, GED, or equivalent experience in comparable company
- Honesty and integrity in all actions
- Ability to take constructive feedback and to make necessary changes
- Excellent customer service and selling skills
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs, stand for extended periods of time, and work extended hours

Compensation

Position Highlights
The Large Binocular Telescope Observatory (LBTO) is among the world's most powerful optical/infrared telescopes, with two 8.4m-diameter mirrors on a single mount, located on the summit of Mount Graham near Safford, Arizona. The Observatory features a sophisticated suite of instruments for optical and infrared imaging and spectroscopy, supported by innovative adaptive optics technologies. The LBT is driving discoveries for cosmic sources ranging from exoplanets around nearby stars to some of the most distant galaxies in the universe. The observatory is operated by an international consortium of leading research institutions and functions administratively as part of the University of Arizona, with offices in Tucson.
The LBTO seeks an Observatory Support Associate responsible for operating the Large Binocular Telescope and its systems to facilitate astronomical data collection. The OSA works primarily at the observatory site on Mt Graham (3200m). The normal work schedule is a 7-night shift every third week. The OSA will also support telescope and facility performance documentation and data quality monitoring, and will maintain the safety of personnel and equipment during nighttime observations.

Duties & Responsibilities- Independently operate, maintain, and troubleshoot the Large Binocular Telescope on Mt Graham during the night for engineering, science operations, and international partner observing.
- Execute telescope start-up procedures at evening twilight and shutdown procedures at morning twilight.
- Liaise with LBT service observers and/or partner observer scientists to efficiently collect world-class astronomical data.
- Identify improvements to observing efficiency.
- Be responsible on a nightly basis for the safety of personnel and equipment.
- Serve as mountain safety officer during night operation.
- Inspect premises to identify situations potentially dangerous or injurious to personnel or equipment; make real-time decisions regarding operation of the telescope and facility and its protection from adverse conditions.
- Control access to the observing floor and the telescope.
- Respond to emergency situations and provide first aid as needed.
- Configure and operate the LBTO guiding, active optics, and adaptive optics systems.
- In consultation with the observers, monitor real-time LBTO image quality and telescope performance.
- Advise observers / scientists on feasibility of specific types of observations based on these parameters.
- Monitor observing weather stations, including wind velocity, humidity and amount of dust present.
- Decide if weather conditions permit safe operation of the telescope in consultation with observers and technical personnel.
- Respond to real-time changes in weather conditions.
- Advise observers on strategies to adapt programs to increase feasibility in light of environmental conditions.
- Prepare nightly and end-of-shift operational log reports.
- Serve as a high-level resource on telescope performance and notify appropriate personnel of malfunctions of equipment or opportunities for improvement.
- Perform corrective actions in consultation with other observatory personnel.
- Maintain good communication with daytime mountain staff members on operational issues.
- Attend daily observatory-wide telescope planning meetings on-shift and provide technical input and guidance.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Extensive knowledge of telescope operation principles and practical considerations.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Detail-oriented in execution of tasks.
- Ability to work successfully as part of a team.
Physical/Environmental Requirements:
- Candidate must be able to perform duties at an altitude of 10,500 feet and travel up and down the mountain for their shift.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional-level experience required.
- Minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- The position is based in Safford, AZ with regular work at the high-altitude Mt Graham telescope site required.
- Must have a valid driver's license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy .
