Job Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Public Safety Work Shift Supervisor (Police Sergeant), protects, safeguards and provides security and customer service to patients, visitors, employees, their possessions and Medical Center property, in a manner that maintains the highest quality of safety and service to the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center community.
**Job Description:**
**Essential Responsibilities:**
Receives routine and emergency calls for assistance, obtaining relevant information, evaluating need, deploying appropriate resources, making proper notification and then documenting actions taken, all accomplished in a manner that is courteous and professional.
Operates proficiently a variety of Public Safety equipment including mobile and interagency radio console, telephone, computer systems, alarm systems, CJIS terminal, photo ID/access card machine and printers.
Provides information and service to walk in customers including issuing keys and producing identification/access control credentials, as necessary.
Patrols facility and grounds or maintains fixed post coverage, inspecting for security, health and safety hazards, unauthorized persons and unsecured doors and windows, making notifications or taking corrective action as necessary.
Responds to calls for service, alarm and emergency code activation rendering first aid, traffic/pedestrian control and assistance to clinicians such as deescalating emotionally distressed persons who may pose a safety risk to themselves or others.
Monitors main entrance to greet, screen and assist patients and visitors in a courteous manner that is sensitive to their culture; provides directions, wheel chair, transportation services and parking validation.
Directs traffic, monitors parking compliance and provides direction to destinations, to facilitate patients, visitors and employees who are navigating their way through the Medical Center.
Utilizes computer systems to document work activity and to assist visitors in determining where patients are located.
Provides escort for patients, visitors and employees to parking areas and other campus facilities.
**Required Qualifications:**
High School diploma or GED required. Associate's degree preferred.
1-3 years related work experience required.
Meet and maintain qualification standards set by State/Federal Govt, necessary for approval to access CJIS terminal points.
Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

AdventHealth Winter Garden is undergoing a major expanding that will add three additional floors to the hospital's patient tower and bring additional women's services to West Orange County. Our hospital tower expansion will be completed in 2026.
The AdventHealth Winter Garden tower expansion will add 40 new progressive care unit beds, obstetrics and gynecology (including labor and delivery). One floor will be dedicated to labor and delivery, and will include nine labor, delivery, and recovery beds, 10 postpartum beds, two C-section operating rooms, and future space for a level two Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
The tower's expansion will also add space for more operating rooms, and a shell floor with capacity for 40 beds.

SITE SECURITY:
- Performs interior/exterior building and ground patrols to prevent fire, theft, misuse and vandalism of property, inspects doors, windows and locks to determine level of security.
- Secures or unlocks facility doors/entrances at specified times.
- Inspects all elevators and interior fire escape stairwells reporting any identified discrepancies to the Plant Operations and Maintenance Department personnel.
- Monitors surveillance equipment, inspects buildings, equipment, garages and access points and prevents losses and damages by reporting irregularities.
- Observes and assesses behavior while on patrol to deter incidents and ensure activity is not detrimental to the organization.
- Responds to emergency codes, fire drills and alarms.
- Provides security education and may conduct fire drills for the Safety Department.
EMERGENT SITUATIONS:
- Responds to all emergency calls for assistance to control: disorderly conduct or combative patients, potential and/or actual infant or child patient abductions, bomb threats or reports of suspicious packages, evacuation incidents, and/or chemical spills, for crowd control purposes.
- Removes and/or restrains individual(s) to a secure location and if needed calls local authorities.
- Documents in detail observations, information, occurrences and witness statements.
- Assists with local authorities such as the police and fire department when needed.
INCIDENT REPORTING:
- Reports unusual circumstances to the Lead Security Officer/Manager, and documents utilizing appropriate Security Incident Report (IR)

- Prepares daily incident, traffic, parking citations, work orders and inspection reports as they pertain to the scope and purposes of safety and security.
CUSTOMER SERICES:
- Provides assistance and information to patients, visitors, physicians, volunteers, students and staff in order to maintain their safety, security and good public relations.
- Acts as first point of contact regarding security assistance for staff and visitors.
- Assists staff and visitors with lost and found items.
- Answers general questions related to the property or security policies and procedures.

- Provides a security presence within the ED for individuals, hospital personnel, County mental health personnel and the general public.
- Accepts individuals who are on a 5150 hold from law enforcement officers and works with law enforcement to ensure that the individual is settled into the facility and appears to be relatively stable prior to releasing the law enforcement officer to other duties.

- The Security Services staff shall primarily use verbal intervention skills to achieve this goal, but may use physical restraint, if necessary.

**JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:**
SITE SECURITY:
- Performs interior/exterior building and ground patrols to prevent fire, theft, misuse and vandalism of property, inspects doors, windows and locks to determine level of security.
- Secures or unlocks facility doors/entrances at specified times.
- Inspects all elevators and interior fire escape stairwells reporting any identified discrepancies to the Plant Operations and Maintenance Department personnel.
- Monitors surveillance equipment, inspects buildings, equipment, garages and access points and prevents losses and damages by reporting irregularities.
- Observes and assesses behavior while on patrol to deter incidents and ensure activity is not detrimental to the organization.
- Responds to emergency codes, fire drills and alarms.
- Provides security education and may conduct fire drills for the Safety Department.
EMERGENT SITUATIONS:
- Responds to all emergency calls for assistance to control: disorderly conduct or combative patients, potential and/or actual infant or child patient abductions, bomb threats or reports of suspicious packages, evacuation incidents, and/or chemical spills, for crowd control purposes.
- Removes and/or restrains individual(s) to a secure location and if needed calls local authorities.
- Documents in detail observations, information, occurrences and witness statements.
- Assists with local authorities such as the police and fire department when needed.
INCIDENT REPORTING:
- Reports unusual circumstances to the Lead Security Officer/Manager, and documents utilizing appropriate Security Incident Report (IR)
- Completes accurate, clear and legible Security Incident Reports, documenting all steps and results.
- Prepares daily incident, traffic, parking citations, work orders and inspection reports as they pertain to the scope and purposes of safety and security.
CUSTOMER SERICES:
- Provides assistance and information to patients, visitors, physicians, volunteers, students and staff in order to maintain their safety, security and good public relations.
- Acts as first point of contact regarding security assistance for staff and visitors.
- Assists staff and visitors with lost and found items.
- Answers general questions related to the property or security policies and procedures.
- Identifies individuals with special needs and provides appropriate assistance.
SECURITY OFFICERS ASSIGNED TO ACUTE FACILITIES:
- Provides a security presence within the ED for individuals, hospital personnel, County mental health personnel and the general public.
- Accepts individuals who are on a 5150 hold from law enforcement officers and works with law enforcement to ensure that the individual is settled into the facility and appears to be relatively stable prior to releasing the law enforcement officer to other duties.
- Assist to ensure the continued safety of patients, staff and visitors.
- The Security Services staff shall primarily use verbal intervention skills to achieve this goal, but may use physical restraint, if necessary.
