OVERVIEW OF ROLE
The Senior Manager, Food Safety & Quality Control is a critical member of the leadership team at our Georgia Canning facility, responsible for ensuring end-to-end food safety, quality control, and compliance with federal and state food regulations. This role will lead the development and execution of robust food safety, food defense, and food fraud programs to safeguard our products, processes, and brand integrity. The Senior QC Manager will support Thai Union North America's strategic growth by contributing to continuous improvement initiatives in quality, process, and productivity.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Food Safety, Defense & Compliance
* Lead development, implementation, and annual review of HACCP, Food Defense, and Food Fraud programs.
* Maintain and update all QA, QC, and Food Safety SOPs in alignment with federal and state food regulations, customer expectations, and BRC certification standards.
* Manage response to regulatory inspections, third-party audits, and consumer complaints, including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
* Provide expert guidance on evolving food safety regulations, ensuring organizational readiness and compliance.
Quality Control Program Management
* Oversee daily operations of Food Safety, Food Defense, and QC programs.
* Support implementation of the COSGC Quality Assurance Program, including compliance of all products, packaging, ingredients, and raw materials.
* Educate and train employees on their role in supporting the quality management system.
* Manage COSGC's Hold and Release program and oversee department-level QC metrics.
Product & Process Support
* Provide leadership on specification management, including issuing the UPC Master List and Frozen Loins/Finished Product specifications.
* Assist with process validations to ensure equipment, materials, and methods produce safe, legal, and high-quality products.
* Contribute to crisis management, including food safety hazard mitigation and brand reputation protection.
Training & Stakeholder Engagement
* Provide technical support, training materials, and coaching for site-level food protection and quality system implementation.
* Support communication and coordination with certifying bodies, regulatory agencies, customers, and industry groups.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Quantitative KPIs:
* Annual review completion of HACCP and Food Defense Plans.
* Internal reporting accuracy for incidents, holds, and QC releases.
* Timely and effective root cause investigations and CAPAs.
* Performance metrics for QC and Food Safety/Defense departments.
Qualitative KPIs:
* Compliance with all regulatory and customer food safety and quality requirements.

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
* Bachelor's degree in Food Science or a related field (or equivalent experience).
* 15+ years of experience in FDA-regulated shelf-stable and ready-to-eat seafood manufacturing industries.
* Proven leadership in quality or food safety-focused roles in a plant environment.
* In-depth knowledge of GFSI standards (e.g., BRC, SQF) and certification processes.
* Strong communication, analytical, and presentation skills.
* Hands-on managerial experience, with the ability to drive collaboration across departments.

- Lead and oversee the site quality and food safety programs, ensuring alignment with regulatory, customer, site and corporate standards (SQF, FDA 21 CFR 117, USDA, state, and local).

- Plan, promote, and organize training activities related to product quality and reliability.
- Investigate customer complaints regarding quality and food safety and prepare reports.

- Institute and oversee preventive controls.
- Prepare sample submission packages for testing.

Qualifications
Education/Experience:
- BA in Science. Food Science, Biology and similar backgrounds preferred.
- Minimum 7 years of related experience in Quality Systems required.
- Experience working is a quality position within a food and nutrition bar manufacturing site.
- Experience with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) & CFR 117 required.
- Experience with GFSI audits strongly preferred.
- Experience or familiarity with organic, kosher, gluten-free regulations preferred.
Skill Requirements & Certifications:
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) plant safety and OSHA requirements.

The Food Safety Manager will be responsible for establishing and maintaining best-in-class food safety culture and risk management through implementation and adherence of food safety plans and programs, quality system compliance, preventative controls of hazards, and investigation management. The Food Safety Manager will develop strong partnership with supply chain in conjunction with R&D and regulatory and other departments to provide guidance and assure implementation and adherence to programs.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
* Provide functional leadership of food safety, quality system compliance and investigation management for the site. Manage programs and support effective and compliant implementation of changes within the site quality system.
* Collaboratively support Directors, Quality Subsystem Owners, and other internal and/or external stakeholders with organizational, project/program management.
* Direct responsibility for Food Quality and Food Safety Plans and risk management lifecycle process through the evaluation of site processes, assessing risk based on food safety and public health principles, prioritizing corrective actions, and verifying activities and validation testing. Ensure all HACCPs are appropriate and records are complete and accurate. Monitor CAPA Programs to ensure Root Cause analysis is performed and timely closure.
* Assure that product food safety is monitored via appropriate metrics and effectiveness of actions through all phases of sanitation, pest control, microbiological and cleaning programs for the site.
* Work with site departments to develop and implement programs to continuously improve food safety risk reduction, enhance cGMP best practices and requirements to achieve desired performance results.
* Provide management and development of the quality personnel.
* Support implementation of Divisional initiatives as identified by management and in support of Quality Management Systems (QMS), Environmental Management Systems (EMS), and other regulatory requirements.
* Develop and support a successful compliance strategy that supports Abbott's growth objectives, including coordination and facilitation of external and non-site internal audits of the facility, provide inspection administration support during these inspections/audits/ and coordinate the development and implementation of applicable CAPA's.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE, YOU'LL BRING:
Required
* Bachelor's Degree: Biology, microbiology, chemistry or technical field
* 10 years Food manufacturing industry experience.
* Minimum 5 years thorough knowledge of and experience in application of FDA/GMP regulations
* Understanding and application of microbiological principles with in-depth food borne pathogen knowledge.
* In depth knowledge of HACCP, Sanitation principles and Food Safety Preventive Controls (FSPC)
* 5 years supervisory experience

Our Greenhouse facility at Backyard Farms, located in Madison, ME is a 42-acre greenhouse. We are seeking a Food Safety Manager to join the team. In this role you will help build a proactive safety (food, plant and employee) culture and an environment where employees, supervision and Greenhouse functional leaders are engaged in working safe. You would also be responsible to perform audits against numerous internal and external standards such as SQF, HACCP, MiOSHA, Health programs while delivering on time arrival of audit reports.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Directly responsible for the oversight and maintenance of the SQF Program at the assigned Mastronardi Produce, growing center.
- Serves as the designated Safe Quality Foods (SQF) Practitioner and is compliant with relevant FSMA trainings.
- Help build a proactive safety (food, plant and employee) culture and an environment where employees, supervision and Greenhouse functional leaders are engaged in working safely.
- Perform audits against numerous internal and external standards such as SQF, HACCP, MiOSHA, Health programs while delivering on time arrival of audit reports.
- Oversee all customer and regulatory auditors including government, 3rd party, SQF
- Prepares, organizes, leads and conducts follow-up for third-party, government, and customer audits
- Corrective Action and Preventative Measures - log and track non-compliances and FSS incidences, do investigations, coordinate follow-up and bring outstanding issues to closure.
- Work side-by-side with General Manager to assure compliance to HACCP/GMP and food safety requirements are met

- Maintain a focus on the Quality key process indicators (KPI's) and Improvement against defined targets.
- Manage the day-to-day operations of all quality functions, safety and health.
- Conduct routine inspections of internal Food Safety Program to ensure compliance.
- Provides quality input and advice on the creation, implementation and revision of SOP's.
- Training and manage Sanitation department staff in all aspects of production and quality control measures and SOP's.
- Stays attuned to and prepares adaptation to change in customer, company and regulatory changes
- Identifies potential risks before they become a problem, focusing on root cause analysis and preventative actions.
- Educate employees in proper safety procedures, safe work practices and
- Investigate injuries/illnesses, near-misses to determine root cause of incidences and provide corrective action plan. Manage and track injury and illness data.
- Perform process checks throughout the greenhouse including production, packaging, sanitation and warehousing functions of the greenhouse, including pre-operational checks, sanitation verification, label checks and net weight checks.
- Maintain thorough training records for Mastronardi and Agency Staff. Conduct routine audits of training records for review by Management.
- Records - conduct routine checks to verify proper record keeping by Operations Team
- Assist in the development of new training programs.
- Maintain FSS documents, database, records, binders & filing. Ensure an "audit ready" state of compliance at all times.
- 4 years food production experience or at minimum College Degree with 3 years of relative industry experience
- HACCP, SQF, Grower Safety Training Certifications required
- 3 Years' experience of managing a team of 3 or more
- Industry knowledge of HACCP, GMP and OSHA, EPA guidelines
- Ability to manage multiple production teams under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills at all levels inside the business and externally with suppliers, customers and regulatory agencies.
- Proven leadership experience in a Team setting

The Food Safety Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring our customers receive the highest quality and safest products and that our products always adhere to food safety standards and requirements. In this role you will:
- Develop and implement food safety training programs for employees to ensure they are aware of proper food handling procedures to meet customer, regulatory, and internal standards. - Track state audits for the distribution centers and follow up with their corrective actions.
- Complete all required FDA facility (includes distribution centers) registrations as assigned.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of progressive quality systems, food safety, or related experience to perform the essential job functions.
- Possess and maintain Certified Food Safety Manager (e.g., ServSafe) and HACCP certification.
- Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent directly related experience may substitute for some or all of the required education.
- Skill in adapting leadership style to needs of a diverse audience such as front-line employees, external inspectors, executives, and customers.
- Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and standards (FDA, GFSI, BRC, etc.).
- Experience in leading and participating in certification audits and inspections.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and food safety software.
