Job Description
As the global home for all developers, GitHub is the complete AI-powered developer platform to build, scale, and deliver secure software. Over 150+ million developers, including more than 90% of the Fortune 100 companies, use GitHub to collaborate and experiment across 420+ million repositories. With all the collaborative features of GitHub, it has never been easier for individuals and teams to write faster, better code.
**Locations**
In this role you can work from Remote, United States
**Overview**
We are looking for a Staff Site Designer to join the Brand & Marketing Design team. In this role, you will be responsible for leading site-wide design improvements, setting the gold standard of design execution, and transforming a new visual brand identity into effective user experiences from landing pages to product surfaces. You'll be working as a staff level individual contributor, creating world-class end-to-end designs while mentoring other designers on the team and influencing the brand direction as a whole. You know that the best designs require more than just pixels; you're willing to jump in to influence copy, growth opportunities, and development workflows. Collaboration is the key to GitHub's success, and you will work closely with other product and brand designers, engineers, product managers, and marketing team stakeholders to propose design solutions and ensure a successful outcome.
**What we're looking for**
Designers at GitHub are expert individual contributors; they are given a lot of autonomy and trust to work on our most impactful projects. For this specific role, we're looking for someone who values the following:
+ **Systems thinking:** Our team has to apply decisions holistically, making sure to look at new patterns in context to the larger system of the brand, design system, and product, as well as ensuring we support experiences for individual features.
+ **Inclusive design:** GitHub is a home for all developers and our brand design system should reflect that. This means including and learning from people with a range of perspectives. Designing for inclusivity first can lead us to solve problems for the many and open up our product for more people.
+ **Creating together:** Getting to the right result is our focus. This can come from illustrators, designers, or site engineers - and ideally everyone. Facilitating collaboration between teams and individuals is key to continuity across all touchpoints, consistency within our design system and a clear vision and perspective that resonates with the needs of our customers.
+ **Progress and impact:** Our team often works on the meta and so it's easy to get caught up in the design details. We have to be mindful of this and ensure we keep making decisions and moving forward. This means being solutions-oriented and prioritizing progress over correctness when it's the right call, but never sacrificing quality.
+ **Candidness:** We encourage candidness and recognize its role in building trust between managers and reports and with peers and leadership. It can take time and effort to get there, but it's worth it. Making decisions for projects, design patterns, and processes will yield better results when we can get to the "real talk".
**Responsibilities**
+ Own the end-to-end designs for marketing experiences from the top of funnel customer journey, straight into the product bottom funnel.
+ Partner with Art Directors to establish and help shape a vision for the future of GitHub's brand and visual strategy
+ Partner closely with the Site Design Director to inform and influence team processes, best practices and improvements that support company objectives
+ Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand the business need and translate goals into effective designs
+ Produce sketches, wireframes, prototypes to present a concept to stakeholders and gather feedback to improve your designs
+ Actively mentor fellow designers, helping them grow their skills and design toolkit.
+ Identify, advocate for, and own design-driven projects and initiatives that have cross-team impact.
+ Collaborate alongside product designers to ensure in-product marketing is consistent and on brand with all site and external touchpoints
+ Polish your designs in code or work directly with engineers to turn your designs into production-ready, systems-based HTML and CSS. (We love to hire designers who can code so there's no back-and-forth handoff with engineering - this helps us move fast!)
+ Provide regular, direct and impactful feedback in design and code reviews with your teammates to ensure high-quality execution and continuously up-level the team's design output
+ Use, contribute to, and evolve GitHub's design system and brand guidelines to ensure consistency across our web properties
**Qualifications**
**Required Qualifications:**
+ 10+ years' experience in product or service design,
+ OR bachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field AND 8+ years' experience in product or service design,
+ OR master's degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field AND 6+ years' experience in product or service design,
+ OR doctorate in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field AND 4+ years' experience in product or service design,
+ OR equivalent experience.
+ 5+ years of experience leading design projects and coordinating with cross functional teams
+ 5+ years of experience shipping end-to-end integrated marketing campaigns across several digital surfaces
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Strong visual design skills, including an eye for good typography, composition, and use of color.
+ Portfolio showcasing a strong body of web and brand work that tells a compelling and consistent story about a product, business, or initiative
+ Experience scaling brand and web resources through effective design systems.
+ Familiarity with modern front-end development, including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
+ Familiarity with Contentful and/or other CMS web tools to build websites
**Compensation Range**
The base salary range for this job is USD $127,600.00 - USD $338,500.00 /Yr.
These pay ranges are intended to cover roles based across the United States. An individual's base pay depends on various factors including geographical location and review of experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant.
