Position Overview:
We have an immediate need for Two (2) locum Oncology Physicians to provide interventional procedures for our veteran population at the VA Medical Center in Buffalo, NY. This role offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in veterans lives while experiencing the beauty of upstate New York.
Responsibilities:
Provide expert consultation and treatment to patients in an inpatient and outpatient clinic setting.
Evaluate, triage and prioritize consults from primary care and other services for outpatient oncology consultations.
Obtain medical history, conduct physical examinations, order and evaluate appropriate laboratory testing, and plan and prescribe treatment for patients.
Coordinate medical management and care with Primary Care providers and other personnel in a multidisciplinary health care delivery system.
Perform administrative tasks as assigned such as peer review and Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluations.
Provide oncology on-call services as assigned.
Must have completed a residency in Internal Medicine and be Board Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine Medical Oncology Board.
Credentialling and onboarding takes approximately 4-6 weeks.
Hours & Schedule:
Standard Administrative Hours: Monday through Friday 8:00am 4:30pm (excluding federal holidays).
Specific clinic times to be identified upon start of assignment
On-call hours required
Salary: $1800 per day
Travel Necessary:
There will be an expectation to conduct clinic at the Batavia VAMC and Olean CBOC in accordance with patient volume for oncology services. The frequency of clinic at these locations will be reoccurring with a minimum of one day per quarter and a maximum of one day per week for each location. Batavia is 36.4 miles from the primary location in Buffalo. Olean is 75.5 miles from the primary location in Buffalo.

• Interpret mutational and molecular genetic testing to guide chemotherapeutic agent prescribing.

• Administration of chemotherapeutic agents and biological response modifiers through all therapeutic routes.

• Analyze blood tests manually including blood count, including blood count, including platelets and white cell differential.
• Diagnostic lumbar puncture.
• Performing bone marrow aspirates, bone marrow biopsies, and touch preparations as well as interpretation of bonne marrow biopsies.
• Diagnostic and Therapeutic paracentesis.
• Management of indwelling venous access catheters.
• Therapeutic thoracentesis.
Qualifications
• Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
• Active, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia

Qualifications Oncology Physician
To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following qualifications:
Licensure
• Must hold a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or D.C.
• Physicians with any history of license restriction, suspension, revocation, voluntary surrender, or denial are not eligible.
Board Certification
• Must be Board Certified in Medical Oncology by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
• Must maintain current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or equivalent.
• Contractor must submit annual documentation verifying certifications to the VA COR.
Technical Proficiency
• Must be technically skilled and fluent in English (speaking, reading, writing, understanding).
• Contractor must provide verifiable documentation of education, training, and any gaps in educational history.
• Physicians must adhere to the Facility s Medical Staff By-Laws, rules, and regulations.
Continuing Medical Education (CME)
• Must maintain current CME hours as required by national/medical associations.
• Contractor must submit CME documentation to the credentials office for privileging and re-privileging.
• Failure to provide CME documentation results in loss of privileges.
Mandatory VA Training
• Must complete all VA-required training, including:
- ACLS
- BLS
- Electronic Health Records (EHR)
- Other VA-mandated courses as communicated by the VA
