HF Sinclair is seeking a regional operational technology specialist in Casper or Cheyenne or Sinclair in Wyoming or Denver, CO or Saltlake City, Utah area who will be part of the corporate operational technology team. This role provides regional support and assurance to sites through implementing, maintaining, protecting and improving operational technology systems. This role will be a liaison providing operational technology reviews, assessments and road mapping exercises in support of technical networks amongst the regions.

Job duties:

  • Assist region with the design, documentation, and implementation of control systems and operational technology
  • Develops procedures and documentation and adheres to OT policies, procedures, and best practices
  • Implementation and maintenance of new systems, networks, security practices and solutions as well as effective improvements to existing security controls as guided by Corp. OT Cybersecurity Specialist
  • Leads OT Cybersecurity Training and awareness programs for sites as guided by Corp. OT Cybersecurity Specialist
  • Provides technical guidance and support to project teams for new technologies, infrastructure and design
  • Troubleshoots infrastructure issues to identify and resolve technical problems
  • Monitor region cybersecurity alerts and assist sites with incident response activities
  • Improves key performance and key risk indicator metrics
  • Assist sites with implementing new networking devices and solutions as well as effective improvements or required changes to existing networks
  • Interfaces with internal and external auditors for risk assessments
  • Serve as liaison to enterprise IT infrastructure, networking, and cybersecurity teams
  • Maintains vendor management standards, questionnaires and documentation to adhere to regulatory compliance
  • Interacts with key site leaders (Engineering Managers, Technical Service Managers, etc.) to provide updates and information and to understand site concerns/needs

Experience: A minimum of eight years of industry and related operational technology specialty experience is required.

Education Level: A minimum of a bachelor's degree in a related engineering discipline or information systems/security is required.

Required Skills: Ability to effectively communicate with others, both written and verbal communication, interpersonal, presentation, and organizational skills; knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. Overview

The Operational Technology Security Engineer is responsible for ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of industrial control systems (ICS), SCADA, and other OT environments. The engineer integrates cybersecurity processes with industrial systems, ensuring secure system design, deployment, and operation while maintaining critical OT functionality.The position requires hands-on involvement in system security assessments, risk management, secure architecture design, and the implementation of technical controls to safeguard OT assets against cyber threats. The engineer will work closely with IT, OT, and cybersecurity teams to balance operational requirements with security best practices.

Responsibilities

    Perform security engineering support for the planning, design, development, testing, and integration of OT systems.
  • Analyze and document OT system security requirements, identifying gaps and recommending mitigation strategies.
  • Apply systematic and analytical methods to resolve security issues related to workflow, processes, and planning in OT environments.
  • Conduct assessments of industrial protocols and network architectures, including Modbus/TCP, EtherNet/IP, IEC 61850, ICCP, DNP3, BACnet, and others.

Technology used:

Experience securing and analyzing OT environments, including knowledge of: Modbus/TCP, EtherNet/IP, IEC 61850, ICCP and DNP3, BACnet and other OT protocols.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Seven (7) years of relevant OT security or industrial control systems (ICS) experience.
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance.
  • Eligibility for IT Level II designation.
  • DoD 8570.01 IAM Level II Certification, such as CAP, CISSP (Associate acceptable), CISM, or GSLC.
  • Experience securing and analyzing OT environments, including knowledge of: Modbus/TCP, EtherNet/IP, IEC 61850, ICCP and DNP3, BACnet and other OT protocols.
  • Familiarity with NIST 800-82, ISA/IEC 62443, and other relevant OT security standards.
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity best practices for ICS/SCADA environments.

Desired:

  • GIAC Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional (GICSP) Certification
  • Experience supporting DoD OT systems in industrial or mission-critical environments.
  • Knowledge of Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) as applied to OT networks.
  • Hands-on experience with OT cybersecurity tools, network segmentation, and anomaly detection technologies.
  • Background in electrical, mechanical, or industrial engineering is a plus.
