Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings - carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
**Role Purpose**
Work directly with Sales, Marketing, Customer Care, and other commercial functions to support external customers with the design of passive optical networks and the generation of associated bills of material (BOMs) for Fiber-to-the-Home networks. In addition to FTTH networks, the Design Engineer may create solutions for Multi-Dwelling-Units (MDUs), Fiber-to-the-Business (FTTB), and other Access Networks.
**Key Responsibilities**
+ Utilize knowledge of products and product suites to develop optimized passive optical network solutions for customers
+ Provide design support leveraging commercial sensitivity to achieve technically sound customer deliverables while enhancing business relationships
+ Accompany Sales and other commercial representatives on customer visits to present solutions, provide training, and assist with various technical issues
+ Utilize sound problem solving abilities to achieve desired objectives. Multiple design iterations may be necessary to develop optimal solutions to satisfy customer requirements as well as desires
+ Formulate technical solutions using products which are core to the business as well as those which are newly released or even modified to meet custom specifications
+ Balance the goal of creating an optimized solution against an understanding of the customer's needs to best meet corporate objectives, both financial and strategic
+ Maintain appropriate communication with internal commercial personnel throughout the design process in order to properly manage commercial impact
+ Special projects often requiring additional travel or even being embedded with external customers may be assigned to individuals based on demand, workload, priority, and experience
**Required Education**
+ 4-year degree in an Engineering discipline. Mechanical or Electrical preferred
+ Proficiency with current desktop computer software including MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS Outlook
+ Ability to meet stringent deadlines, operate in a fast-paced multi-task environment, and effectively manage competing time requirements
+ Fundamental analytical problem-solving ability
+ Self-motivation and the ability to succeed under minimal supervision, often with vague and nebulous information and direction from the customer

The range for this position is $83,839.00 - $115,279.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. **What You'll Get to Do:**
+ Design and development of systems components
+ Ensure the system is constructed and designed according to specifications and functions properly
+ Refining and adjusting requirements as necessary in response to any emerging issues
+ Follow through of design from detailed design through build up and integration and test.
+ Documentation of all design components and processes/procedures throughout systems development
+ Perform functional analysis, detailed trade studies, requirements development and allocation, and ensuring design meets design compliance
+ Support staffing and scheduling to ensure products are delivered on time as required
+ Maintain knowledge of current and developing technologies and developing strategies for their insertion into both legacy and next-generation applications
**This position is contingent upon acquiring and maintaining a US Government security clearance per customers' requirements.**
**This position will serve on-site in one of these area locations:** **Annapolis Junction, MD, Linthicum Heights, MD or Beavercreek, OH.**
**Basic Qualifications for Staff Systems Design Engineer:**
+ Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline with 12 years of experience, a Master's degree in a STEM discipline with 10 years of experience or a PhD in a STEM discipline with 8 years of experience
+ Demonstrated experience with Systems Development Lifecycle
+ Demonstrated experience defining systems behavior
+ Experience leading Multi-Disciplinary Engineering exposure (Software, Hardware, Electrical) and strong ability to communicate cross functionally
+ High proficiency in technical problem solving; to include decomposition, root cause analysis, and solution development
+ Experience in generation and update of system and sub-system level specifications
+ Demonstrated experience with risk management and related tasks
+ This position requires the applicant to be a U.S. Citizen
+ Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain DoD TS/SCI with Polygraph per customer requirements prior to start
**Preferred Qualifications for Staff Systems Design Engineer:**
+ Active TS/SCI with Polygraph
+ Experience across the entire lifecycle of the systems engineering development lifecycle.
+ Knowledge of Systems Engineering including participation in the development of an Integrated Master Plan (IMP) and Integrated Master Schedule (IMS).
+ Past experience as a Cost Account Manager (CAM)
+ Experience working with CAMEO or other similar MBSE management tools
+ Experience using requirements management tools
+ Various experience across different stages of the product lifecycle
+ 12 years of direct relevant experience within systems development or similar capacity
+ Masters in Systems Engineering
+ Understanding of DoD systems engineering requirements
+ Risk and Opportunity Management experience
Salary Range: $155,400.00 - $256,400.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.

**Key Responsibilities**
+ Honeywell has an opening for an engineer in the Mechanical Systems Engineering group responsible for the design and analysis of bearings, gears and splines, seals, and lubrications systems for propulsion engines, auxiliary power units and engine gearboxes.
+ The scope of this position includes using state-of-the-art software tools and methods and supporting Technical Excellence Teams to capture and publish analysis practices and guidelines.
+ The position may involve test rig design, operation, and data collection and analysis.
+ Analytical results may be presented in design reviews and will be recorded in appropriate documentation to meet program deliverables and requirements.
