Job Description:
SUNY Broome Community College is seeking candidates for a full-time 10-month, tenure-track Clinical Instructional Specialist in the Dental Hygiene Department, starting Fall 2025. The department offers an A.A.S. in Dental Hygiene, which is fully accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) and is a NYS licensure preparing program.
The successful candidate will be an integral member of the full-time faculty ranks. This role provides continuity for students within the program across all levels of required clinical and radiographic experiences, working with both freshman and senior dental hygiene students. The Clinical Instructional Specialist must remain current with dental hygiene theory, clinical dental hygiene and educational methodologies. This faculty member will work directly with the department chairperson to ensure the department is up-to-date with clinical standards and annual reporting.
Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Provide support to the clinical functions, including instruction and supervision during clinical, labs, or other assigned educational settings.
- Evaluate student performance.
- Work with the clinic coordinator to advise students of clinical requirement progress and provide remediation and guidance with regard to progress.
- Supervise radiography experiences.
- Assist faculty and staff with the preparation for educational labs and clinics.
- Assist the department in maintaining OSHA and HIPAA compliance which includes holding membership in professional organizations.
- Provide clinic coverage during hours of operation, work across all required clinicals within the program.
- Keep abreast of program policies, procedures, and student progress.
- Work with the Department Chair to update and revise program manuals, instructional materials, and the Dental Hygiene Department Hazard Communication, HIPAA Compliance and Infection Control OSHA Program Manuals.
- Oversee annual water testing with the Technical Assistant.
- Maintain TalEval Competency and Clinical Requirement Reports.
- Report issues of concern with regard to student clinical performance to the Clinic Coordinator and Department Chair as appropriate.
- Bachelor's degree in Dental Hygiene or Associate's degree in Dental Hygiene and bachelor's degree in a related field.
- Current NYS Dental Hygiene License.
- Current NYS Dental Hygiene Local Anesthesia and Nitrous Oxide Analgesia Certification.
- Current BLS Certification for Health Care Professionals.
- Two years dental hygiene practice experience.
- One year teaching experience in a clinical dental hygiene educational setting.
- The successful candidate will have effective communication skills and be able to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students in a team setting.
- Must be eligible to work in the United States without a visa sponsorship.
The minimum salary for this position is $53,045.
Offers of employment will be conditional based upon the results of a satisfactory, required pre-employment Standard Background Check.
