The 4B Nursing Unit is a 30 bed orthopedic unit. Recently, the UPMC St. Margaret has been awarded the prestigious honor of being a Total Knee and Total Hip Center of Excellence. Patients come from across the region to receive the renowned orthopedic care we provide on this unit. Given our expertise, this unit sees a high volume and quick turnaround of patients, which requires extensive teamwork and flexibility. The 4B team works in close collaboration with our surgical services and rehabilitation teams to provide a seamless patient experience. Because the unit's scheduling resolves around surgery scheduling, staff must be able to work a flexible schedule. However, in return that same flexibility is granted to staff for their own personal scheduling needs. As a staff member on 4B, you will work in a fast-faced, positive, encouraging, and team-oriented environment. Staff rely on and trust one another to treat all patients as their own regardless of their patient assignment. Our 4B team members find great satisfaction helping their patients progress in their post-operative journey and cheering them on each step of the way.
4B provides comprehensive orthopaedical services to adult and geriatric patients age 18+. Common cases admitted to this unit include but are not limited to: minimally invasive total joint replacement (hip & knee), spinal surgery, foot and ankle surgery, hand surgery, and fractures. The unit places a significant focus on pain management as a critical aspect of the patient experience. While the unit's primary focus is orthopedic care, team members still get to provide general medical surgical care as this unit also cares for our overflow medical surgical population on an as needed basis.
