Joby Overview
Located in Northern California, the team at Joby Aviation is driven by our goal of creating an affordable, all-electric air transportation system. Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. Since 2009, our team has worked steadily to make this dream a reality. We’ve designed and tested many generations of prototype aircraft capable of serving in a network of electric air taxis. We’re looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onwards toward certifying the Joby aircraft with the Federal Aviation Administration, scaling our manufacturing, and preparing to launch commercial service in 2025.

Job Description
Joby Aviation is seeking a highly motivated Head of Safety to lead a team of dedicated health and safety professionals, in addition to planning, developing, implementing, and coordinating company-wide safety programs and policies in accordance with pertinent regulations and policies with a primary focus on aviation and manufacturing. Oversight and maintenance of an enterprise-wide Safety Management System will be a core responsibility, along with oversight of safety programs in manufacturing, air operations, flight test, and research and development.

The most important traits at Joby are a positive attitude, a hard-work ethic, the ability to self-manage, and to learn new skills. Forward-thinking and adaptability are highly regarded as well. The Joby Aviation team is made up of extremely talented, hardworking, proactive, and hands-on individuals, operating in a very fast-paced and rewarding environment. We are looking to expand this team with like-minded individuals looking to make a mark in the transportation industry.

Responsibilities
  • Act as Joby’s chief safety champion – model and promote an organizational culture that fosters safety practices through effective leadership.
  • Manage an enterprise-wide safety management system (SMS), including management of the FAA Part 135, Part 145, Part 141, and OEM SMS programs under the FAA Part 5 SMS program.
  • Particulate regularly in technical safety reviews, flight readiness reviews and safety review boards, providing technical safety perspective and insights.
  • Lead the development and standardization of procedures, risk assessments, proactive safety reporting, and emergency response, involving air operations, flight test, research and development, manufacturing, and other areas across the company.
  • Present Joby's safety posture and current status to the Executive Leadership and Board of Directors on a regular basis.
  • Interface with company leadership, employees, contractors, FAA, OSHA, and other regulators to ensure a safe, compliant, and successful experience for everyone at Joby.
  • Build strong working relationships across the Joby organization to reinforce a strong safety and compliance culture.
  • Oversee cross-functional and volunteer teams, including safety team, first responders, incident review board, and others as required.
  • Develop and oversee occupational health programs.
  • Recommend, develop and implement appropriate safety training opportunities for personnel.
