Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Intellectual Property Manager supports management of company’s IP estate by being accountable for its IP-related processes, systems, and information. This cross-functional role, reporting to the Legal Department, primarily supports IP attorneys and their clients, including in R&D, to plan, analyze, and execute IP assets in alignment with the company’s IP strategy and budget.
Key Responsibilities:
IP Portfolio Strategy and Management
- Coordinate timely review of invention disclosures with internal and external stakeholders
- Coordinate and support meetings such as for the IARC so the company can make IP filing decisions
- Collect and report on IP analytics, including about invention disclosure projects and other ideation
- Manage patent annuities and provide recommendations for the continuation or expiration of IP
- Manage IP applications, including providing instruction on filing formalities, international filings and routine office actions
- Assist with patent searches, whether for landscape, infringement analysis or clearance analysis
- Facilitate innovation by conducting innovation challenges and educating company employees
- Facilitate the creation of new trademarks
- Assist with routine trademark matters such as knockout searches, collecting evidence of use, and collecting proof of ownership for takedown requests
Innovation Portal/ Docketing Software
- Maintain IP docket for trademarks and patents
- Attend IP-related project meetings and manage related documentation
- Draft and negotiate IP-related confidentiality agreements
- Interact directly with 3rd party inventors to gather information for evaluation by the company
- Manage flow of IP prosecution and approval, including via innovation software such as Foundation IP
- Execute and record annuity decisions, including any related budgetary impacts, in IP software
- Maintain database such as the Innovation Portal to efficiently and effectively perform searches and develop analytics relating to open innovation
Your qualifications
Required:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree, (ideal engineering)
- 7+ years’ experience researching Intellectual Property matters
- Strong data management skills
- Strong intellectual property searching experience
- Strong experience in IP-related software systems such as CPA, CPI, and Foundation IP
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong people and process management skills
- Strong analytical and reporting skills
Preferred:
- Candidates with previous experience in cross-functional/ matrix management roles

- Invoice management and assist attorneys and agents in preparing cost estimates for IP resources, such as subscriptions, licenses, search engines and firms
- Have a willingness to work overtime, as needed

- 5+ years of Patent experience in a law firm or Corporate environment (biotech or pharma industry preferred); Trademark experience a plus
- Bachelor's degree required preferably in a Biological Science
- Working knowledge of BLAST search and alignment tools for biological sequences
- Working knowledge of USPTO rules and procedures, PAIR and EFS-Web; knowledge of PatentIn software (sequence listings); TESS and TSDR knowledge a plus
- Experience with monitoring dockets, managing patent filings and document management
- Working knowledge of Patent Docketing and Annuity Management systems (e.g. CPA, CPI, Anaqua, or equivalent system)
- Experience with assisting attorneys and agents in patent prosecution and patent portfolio management
- Knowledge of litigation support systems a plus
- Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat Pro, and Microsoft Office Suite, including MSWord, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
- Experience with online legal, industry and scientific research tools (preferred)
- Notary, or willingness to obtain notary commission certificate (State of NY)
- Excellent research and communication skills, and strong analytical and organizational skills

Key Responsibilities:

- Advanced experience managing global trademark portfolios, foreign counsel relationships, and opposition and cancellation proceedings
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
