**Organization & Team Overview**
Comcast Government Affairs is based in Washington, DC. They serve as the company's lobbying and advocacy team, and represent the company's interests to the House and Senate Congressional Members, as well as the Administration.
This group of men and women is the eyes and ears of what is going on in Washington. They monitor how new laws and regulations will affect the company and try to influence them. The intern will be a part of this team. In addition to the Lobby Team, within the Washington, DC office is the Regulatory Team that advocates for the company in front of the FCC- the regulatory agency that regulates telecommunications- video/broadband). There is also the Policy Team and the Communications Team, as well as the NBC Government Affairs Team and the NBC Regulatory Team.
**Role Description**
The intern will work primarily with the Federal Government Affairs team. The team is comprised of lobbyists who are a broad mix of former Senate and House staffers and association lobbyists.
The intern will learn that actions lawmakers take in Congress affect all citizens. They will learn how a Fortune 50 company interacts with policy makers and lawmakers and what the Federal Government Affairs team does to influence the policy coming out of the Congress and the Administration. The intern will watch hearings, attend meetings with House and Senate staffers, and will be part of the strategy sessions.
**Job Responsibilities**
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
+ Watch Congressional hearings and take notes for circulation to Comcast Legislative Affairs team.
+ Work with members of the Legislative Affairs team on various projects.
+ Conduct guided legislative and Congressional research on topics of interest to Comcast NBCUniversal.
+ Attend internal Comcast meetings and take notes.
+ Support the Legislative Affairs team in planning and execution of Comcast corporate events.
+ Attend meetings with Congressional staff.
+ Process consultant invoices and other administrative assignments as needed.
+ Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
**Preferred Skills**
+ Strong interest in working on the Hill after graduation or has previously worked on the Hill;
+ Strong interest in government affairs/regulatory affairs.
+ Strong research skills.
+ Experience with Microsoft Excel, required
+ Proficiency in Adobe InDesign is a plus, but not required
+ Must have excellent time management and verbal/written communication skills
+ Must have great attention to detail and organizational skills

**Minimum Qualifications and Eligibility Requirements**

+ Available to work 20-25 hours per week over the course of the 8-12 week fall semester

**The Legislative Liaison, working under the direction of the Executive Director of Business Development, will support and represent the Department of Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation (IRRR) on legislative and agency related policy matters. This position serves as the primary contact on all legislative matters and guides the agency's staff on legislative relations. This position leads and coordinates the development of agency legislative proposals, initiatives and strategies consistent with agency goals/priorities and with strategic priorities established by the Governor's Office, other state agencies and external agency partners.**
+ **The incumbent assists the Director of Business Recruitment in the formation and coordination of agency economic development initiatives and business recruitment outreach efforts, with a special focus on the Twin Cities and other geographic areas outside of the Taconite Assistance Area.**
+ **This position works with the Director of Business Recruitment to develop and coordinate interagency initiatives to enhance resource sharing, information access and project outcomes for the agency's long-term and short-term economic development objectives**
+ The position has a contributory impact on the IRRR's budget of approximately 70 million through proper execution of position responsibilities.
+ This position will be involved in business recruitment activities and projects that lead to the creation of jobs and promote economic growth in the Taconite Assistance Area.
This position will be located in St. Paul, MN. Telework may be eligible for applicants who reside in Minnesota.
Travel to the Eveleth, MN office as requested by the Commissioner is required.
The incumbent selected will be required to work in the Eveleth office during the first two weeks for onboarding and orientation. If approved for telework, the incumbent will be required to complete a telework agreement.

**Minimum Qualifications**
+ Four* (4) years of professional experience which includes advising management regarding proposed legislation, policies, and programs.
_*Bachelor's degree in public administration, communications, political science or other closely related field as determined by the agency can substitute one (1) year of experience; Master's degree substitutes for eighteen (18) months of experience._
+ Ability to accurately interpret and communicate the policies, procedures and statutes governing the agency.
+ Thorough knowledge of the overall structure and operations of the state government and the legislative process.
+ Possess the skill to analyze complex, difficult, and technical issues affecting Iron Range Resources programs and initiatives as well as federal and state policies.
+ Exceptional strong, persuasive oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally both verbally and in writing.
+ Interpersonal skills and abilities to form partnerships and work cooperatively and effectively with both private and public entities, groups and organizations.
+ Experience working with a diverse clientele including the commitment to equity and diversity in the work environment.
+ Valid MN Driver's License.
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Experience in resolving or coordinating the resolution of a variety of problems involving the most critical issues affecting legislative policies.
+ Sensitivity to the political atmosphere with skill to balance the need for responsible legislative policy development.
+ Broad working knowledge of Minnesota State contracting requirements and processes, and capital project and asset preservation budgeting, planning and implementation.
+ Knowledge of governmental business practices and experience dealing with administrative policies and procedures on a legislative level.

As the Legislative Business Coordinator, you will serve as a key liaison between Minnesota IT Services (MNIT) and our human services partners (DHS, DCYF, HSDS, and MNsure) on matters intersecting with the legislative process. In this role, you will coordinate and manage the development of IT fiscal estimates for legislative and budget proposals, provide technical expertise on IT impacts of proposed policy changes, and prepare agency leadership for legislative testimony and negotiations. You will facilitate legislative briefings, build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and ensure timely, accurate information is available to inform decision-making. This position requires strong legislative knowledge, analytical skills, and the ability to translate complex IT issues into clear, actionable information for senior leadership and legislative partners.
**This position requires an employee to be onsite at 540 Cedar Street, St. Paul, Minnesota at least 50% of the time, with some opportunity to perform work from a telework location.** Telework ( for Minnesota IT Services is available on a limited basis.
