Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
Occasional use of hands, wrists and fingers and lifting or moving up to 75 lbs may be required
Movements such as stooping, crouching, bending, kneeling, climbing and reaching are occasionally required
This position requires spending a majority of the workday standing and walking, with occasional sitting

Here are a few of the daily responsibilities:

Safely prepares, administers, and charts oral, topical, and suppository drugs. The OMT who prepares the medicine administers same. Checks and prepares each dose immediately preceding administration. Follows administration protocol:
Checks medication with transcribed or original order.
Checks all information on label or package for accuracy and clarity.
Clearly identifies the resident with proper medication.
Administers scheduled narcotics only. PRN narcotics to be administered by nurse.
Reports medication errors or reactions to medications immediately to the charge nurse, who, in turn, reports to the resident’s attending physician and completes the necessary documentation.
Checks with the charge nurse if there are any questions regarding any medication.
Records administration of the medication on resident’s medication administration record.
Assist all residents/clients with a high quality of personal care, including but not limited to; bathing, dressing, grooming, shaving, incontinent care, foot care, vital signs, height and weight checks per policy.
Assist residents with mealtime. Cut food. Encourage to eat.
Complete and document shift assignments as assigned, if unable to complete, report to nursing supervisor.
Communicate to residents, families, Department Heads and the Director of Resident Services when needed.
Provide activities as planned and/or directed.
Respond to call lights and emergencies in a timely manner.

Here are a few of the qualifications we need you to ha ve :

Current Oral Medication Technician/Medication Aide certification
Graduation from certified 75-hour Nursing Assistant Program.
Current status on Iowa Nurse Aide Registry.
.One (1) year experience working as a CMA/OMT in assisted living preferred.

  • Verify identity of patient receiving medication and record the name of drug, and time of administration on specified forms or database
  • Present medication to patient and observe ingestion or other application, or administer medication using specified procedures
  • May take vital signs or observe patient to detect response to specified types of medications and prepare report or notify designated personnel of unexpected reactions
  • Record and restock medication inventories
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Nursing Supervisor
Skills & Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • High School education or GED
  • Training of medication administration
  • Minimum 1 year experience in a chemical dependency facility preferred
  • CPR and first aid certified preferred, if not - we'll get you certified!

The Care Giver/Med Tech role includes providing hands on care, physical and emotional support to each resident while maintaining a safe and comfortable home like environment.

Responsibilities:

Care Giver:
  • Responsible for a designated group of residents during the shift; knows where their residents are and physically checks on them throughout the shift.
  • Observes, reports and documents symptoms and conditions of residents for changes in condition such as skin, behavior, alertness, weight, dietary and participation in activities.
  • Responds to security system and resident call bells promptly.
  • Notifies supervisor and/or Health Care Coordinator if a resident has increased care needs.
  • Assists with continence management and disposes of all continence products properly to ensure sanitation of resident suite and community restrooms.
  • Serves and collects food trays and assists as needed; reports refusal of meals or loss of appetite.
  • Maintains cleanliness of resident's room and work areas.
  • Practices good standard care precautions of cleanliness, hygiene and health.
  • Helps residents maintain independence, promotes dignity and physical safety of each resident.
  • Actively participates/leads and assists residents with activities of daily living (i.e. bathing, dressing, toileting, grooming, ambulation, transferring, eating) as instructed.
  • Engages residents in life skills and other life enrichment activities.
  • Greets and assists all internal and external customers, guests, family members, residents, vendors and team members.
  • Does resident laundry as assigned and needed.
Medication Tech duties:
  • Reviews service plan to learn pertinent information about residents.
  • Assists/observes medications and treatments for each resident using the medication observation record and the Six Rights of Medication Pass.
  • Documents and initials form as medications are given including appropriate documentation for refusal or missed doses.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all resident information including resident medication.
  • Reports all resident concerns made while assisting resident with the medication to the Nurse and/or Health Care Coordinator (HCC).
  • Restocks medication cart after all medication passes.
  • Assists in checking medication regardless of packaging system.
  • Counts all narcotics with another Medication Care Manager or Nurse each shift.
  • Maintains and cleans the Medication Room, med charts, treatment carts for neatness cleanliness, availability of medications and expired medications.
  • Follows re-fill process for medications.
  • Participates in the development of the Service Plan and monthly updates.
  • Takes and records temperature, blood pressure, weight, pulse and respiration rates.
  • Reports occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, sharp sticks and hazardous chemicals immediately.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
Qualifications:
  • Certified Nurse's Aid certification preferred.
  • High School diploma/GED
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • CPR Certification preferred
  • First Aid Certification preferred
  • Previous experience working with seniors preferred.
