COORDINATOR OF OUTDOOR RECREATION OPERATIONS
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Outdoor Recreation, the Coordinator for Outdoor Recreation Operations is responsible for managing the UREC Climbing Wall, gear rentals, and bike shop retail services. This position combines strategic oversight with hands-on leadership to create dynamic and safe experiences, ensuring participants and student employees feel empowered, supported, and ready to reach new heights.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THIS POSITION INCLUDE:
- Supervise and train student employees for Climbing Wall, Gear Rental, and Bike Shop services.
- Plan and organize Climbing Wall Skill Sessions, including Learn to Climb and Learn to Belay programs.
- Manage inventory and maintain accurate records of Outdoor Gear Rentals and Bike Shop retail items.
- Coordinate marketing efforts to promote Gear Rental and Bike Shop offerings in the Outdoor Recreation Center.

Job Summary
The Outdoor Recreation & Education Activity Area in the Physical Activities Course ( PAC ) program, a part of the School of Exercise, Sport, and Health Sciences, in the College of Health at Oregon State University invites applications for one or more fixed term, non-tenure track full/part-time Instructor ( PAC ) positions to teach courses on a term-by-term basis for the 2025-2026 academic year.
The PAC Program partners with the Adventure Leadership Institute to provide Outdoor Recreation and Education courses. For additional information about the ALI , please visit submitted to this recruitment pool are reviewed on an as needed basis. Qualified candidates will be contacted when positions become available throughout the academic year. Some of these appointments may be reviewed for renewal or transition to an instructional position on an annual basis at the discretion of the program Director. Scheduling for each term is determined in February for Spring term, November for Winter term, and beginning in May for Fall term.
The primary mission of the PAC Program is to provide all Oregon State University students with the knowledge and experience to make sound decisions regarding present and future physically active lifestyles. The intent of the PAC Program is to provide quality instruction in safe, adequately equipped facilities and to create a positive, enjoyable learning environment. In alignment with providing the most appropriate facilities and professional standards, the PAC program partners with the Adventure Leadership Institute and requires similar professional standards.

· Plan and organize instruction in ways that maximize student learning. Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students. Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student needs. Employ available instructional technology, i.e., the internet, telecourses, interactive technology, when appropriate. Contribute to the selection and development of instructional materials in accordance with course objectives. Develop, update, and post course syllabi and grades in a timely manner. JOB SUMMARY:
The Outdoor Adventure Staffwork to provide outstanding customer service and a welcoming environment while workingzip lines, challenge courses, laser tag, hikes, and other recreation activities.
JOB DETAILS:
We are currently hiringand scheduling shifts for this role. No experience is needed and we start hiring at 18 years old. ForestHome will provide all high adventure rope training, as well as pay for all certification fees. Start Dates and End dates are both flexible. Our Recreation options are open year round. During Summer, we have Outdoor Adventure shiftsavailable from 9am to 11pm daily. Starting in October, we have weekend shifts available. Starting Pay is $14 an hour. Flexibility for school schedules as well as summer vacations. Our Outdoor Adventure staff have between 35 to 70 hours of paid training required. In 2021 we have two training dates scheduled:May 21-25th and June 25-30th. If you are hired prior to these hiring dates, we will schedule you in areas that do not require extensive training until you have been certified.Once you apply, your application will be reviewed in 48 hours and we will email you with next steps.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for daily set up, inspection, cleanup, and operation of zip lines, challenge courses,laser tag, hikes or any other recreation activity.
- Provide instruction to guests regarding safety and operation of recreation programs to ensure safety and smooth operation of courses.
- Attend and participate in all mandatory meetings and trainings
- Maintain all equipment to ensure safety of guests and staff.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- 18 years of age.
- Working towards the completion of a High School diploma or equivalent.
- Must be CPR/First Aid certified within 30 days of being hired.
- Association of Challenge Course Technology Level 1 Facilitator Preferred.
- Prior experience within camp recreation is preferred.
- Prior experience in rock climbing, challenge courses, safety, and other related matters.

ADDITIONAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
- Requires walking, sitting, and standing for 6-8 hours a day.
- Must be able to work at heights up to 60 feet off the ground.
- Requires employees to ascend and/or descend ladders, stairs, cables, and poles with hands and feet.
- After training will have the ability to rescue a 250 lb. person from locations up to 60 feet above the ground using a variety of rescue techniques.
- Requires lifting and transporting 25-50 lbs. of gear and equipment up and down stairs
- Servant heart and Christ-like attitude.
- Will require over a mile of walking daily on rough terrain
- Requires visual acuity to read words and numbers and speaking and hearing ability sufficient to communicate in person.
