Organizational Design

Under the leadership of the Store Manager, the Sales Associate is a member of the Donated Goods Retail Operations team and is tasked with the daily operations of the retail store. The Sales Associate is responsible for obtaining payment for merchandise by accurately itemizing and totaling customer purchases, keeping the store full and fresh of merchandise by processing, stocking and pulling, and excellent customer service. This position will also assist in the training and development of store team members, clients, and volunteers.

Essential Functions
  • Ability to use a computer-based register system.
  • Must be able to perform basic financial calculations for cash handling and register balancing.
  • Employees who are assigned a register are required to count their till before and after each scheduled shift and reconcile their till at the end of shift to ensure accurate drawer amounts.

  • Weighs and records Gaylord's, Containers and Hoppers to track diversion pounds.
  • Provides appropriate customer service on Outlet Floor.
  • Loads and unloads trailers on the loading dock.
  • Places trash into the proper container and moves container to proper location (including outside designations) for disposal or dispose into compactor.

Specific Experience/Skills/Abilities:

  • Experience with operation of personal computers preferred
  • Ability to operate all tipping equipment.
  • Ability to use all appropriate safety PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and follow all safety practices.  
  • Know different shades and tones of color.
  • Know merchandise within a variety of categories.

Basic Requirements:

  • High school diploma preferred or GED.
  • Ability to work varied hours, evenings, weekends and holidays a must perform physical requirements of position including but not limited to:  constant standing, constant bilateral reach and handling ability; constant fingering and pinch grip; requires constant ability to lift/carry up to 10 lbs.; may require constant shoulder height reaching with either hand and firm grasp; frequent bending; may squat; requires frequent ability to push/pull less than 20 lbs.

Sales Associate

The Sales Associate delivers a positive customer experience by providing excellent service through building relationships, assisting with merchandise selection, making product recommendations, and processing transactions. This role drives sales and store key metric performance, maintains merchandise presentations, and works closely with store operation teams to meet store objectives. The Sales Associate promotes a friendly store environment that builds customer loyalty and customer satisfaction. This is an hourly position.

What You Will Do

  • Demonstrate ownership and initiative in achieving personal goals, store objectives, and daily priorities.
  • Greet, engage, and assist customers warmly, creating a welcoming environment and providing personalized service to enhance customer shopping experience.
  • Apply suggestive selling techniques and offer product recommendations to meet customer needs and drive sales.
  • Build genuine relationships with customers to foster loyalty and repeat business.
  • Process transactions accurately and efficiently. Handle customer inquiries, returns, and concerns with professionalism, promptness, and care.
  • Maintain visually appealing selling areas, merchandise presentation standards, accurate signage, fitting rooms, and cleanliness through daily recovery and stock replenishment.
  • Leverage training tools, use resources, and embrace feedback to continuously boost product knowledge, build selling skills, and strengthen performance. Stay informed of products, promotions, policies, and store events to deliver accurate information to customers and enhance service.
  • Contribute to a positive store culture by building connections with teammates, sharing knowledge, and celebrating individual and team achievements.
  • Support store operations by assisting with store fulfillment, pricing, promotional sets, product placement, and other tasks as assigned.
  • Follow asset protection procedures, safety guidelines, and security protocols, supporting store shortage control, inventory accuracy, and minimizing risk in designated area.

  • Must bend, reach, stretch for product as well as lift, carry, and move at least 40 lbs.
