This position is fully onsite in the San Bernadino, CA area and includes some travel.
The Role
The Safety Supervisor will provide strategic leadership and oversight of safety programs within a regional transportation operation focused on railroad crew transportation. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with safety procedures and regulations, and fostering a strong safety culture among operations managers and vehicle drivers.
The position supports operations encompassing 300500 vehicles and 6001,000 drivers, with a strong focus on safety compliance, incident prevention, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with operational leadership to ensure compliance with safety policies, as well as federal and state laws related to driver selection and transportation safety.
- Oversee the quality and effectiveness of training programs related to railroad crew transportation.
- Develop, implement, and monitor safety policies and procedures aimed at reducing incidents, injuries, and liability risks.
- Serve as the primary safety liaison to assigned client operations teams and address day-to-day safety concerns.
- Conduct post-incident investigations, determine root causes, assess preventability, document findings, and coordinate corrective actions with human resources and operations teams.
- Respond to and investigate Safety Hotline complaints; take appropriate action based on findings.
- Monitor and track driver and vehicle compliance across assigned regions or client accounts.
- Facilitate regular safety meetings with operational leadership to review trends, implement corrective measures, and report progress to senior safety leadership.
- Oversee the activities of safety ambassadors assigned within the region.
- Maintain a strong onsite presence at railroad yards and field offices to reinforce safety culture and understand field-level challenges.
- Deliver driver training in person as needed and manage ongoing safety training compliance.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree preferred; Transportation Safety Certification is a plus.
- 35 years of safety experience in passenger transportation; railroad operations experience is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of DOT, OSHA, EEOC, and related compliance regulations.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to motivate teams and foster a culture of safety.
- Proven ability to manage complex investigations and deliver effective corrective actions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Ability to conduct vehicle and facility inspections, with occasional physical demands (lifting/moving 2550 lbs) and strong sensory acuity.
- High attention to detail, organization, and a proactive mindset.
Compensation and Work Environment

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
* Protect highly valuable property, such as equipment, material, grounds, etc.

Job Summary

* Provides professional, customer service focused assistance to the HHC Community including patients, visitors, families, colleagues, clinicians, physicians, and the first responder community, among others.
* Patrols and rounds facility to identify concerning activity, safety concerns or other problems. May be assigned to fixed areas to check credentials, provide information or directions. When assigned to mobile patrols, operates vehicles in a safe manner complying with all traffic and safety rules.
* Provides a timely response, uses problem solving to take appropriate action to manage and investigate security incidents and hazards.
* Maintain current knowledge of instructions, policies and procedures and performs work in accordance with these guidelines.
* Shares information with other Public Safety Officers, maintains accurate activity logs and completes reports and documentation.
* Partners with law enforcement and other first responders when circumstances warrant.
* Informs supervisor or other leadership of unusual situations and request additional assistance as needed.

ABOUT THE POSITION:
Public Safety Officers (PSOs) are vital to promoting a safe and secure campus. They maintain law and order on the campus, enforce University regulations, and request assistance from law enforcement agencies when necessary. Qualified candidates will have excellent written and verbal communication, strong interpersonal skills, and sound judgment. PSOs report to Manhattan University Supervisors and are responsible for the following:
* Protect Manhattan University personnel and facilities against the hazards of fire, accidents and vandalism; enforce all regulations, including those in department manual for Security Officers
* Secure premises and personnel by patrolling property; monitoring surveillance equipment; inspecting buildings, equipment, and access points; permitting entry
* Protect the building structure and grounds to which officer is assigned, including the contents, occupants and visitors; patrol as assigned and seek out and take preventive action against existing hazards or conditions which may cause injury, damage or interference with normal operation, and report same immediately
* Complete reports by recording observations, information, occurrences; interviewing witnesses; obtaining signatures
* Ensure operation of equipment and systems; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs
* Follow procedures for various initiatives, including fire prevention, property patrol, parking enforcement and accident investigations
* Guide visitors and assist in a courteous manner; return lost or found articles to Public Safety Office; assists ill or injured persons in obtaining care, and report such events immediately by radio and on proper report forms
* Public Safety Officers are required to use computer systems and other technology, namely access control, visitor management and security camera systems
* Public Safety Officer will be assigned to work either a day, evening, or overnight shift depending on the needs of the department. The position requires the Security Officer work holidays, weekends, nights, and a variety of shifts and overtime when circumstances warrant. PSOs are considered Essential Personnel in order to maintain the safety and security of University property, personnel, affiliates and visitors
* Perform related duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
* High School Diploma or equivalent
* Valid NYS Guard License, NYS Dept. of States 8-hour mandated certificate training
* First Aid Certification, F-01/F-03/F-04 COF license a plus. Will be required to obtain after hire 90 days to Minimum 1-year prior security experience

* Must be physically fit

1. A minimum of three years public safety experience preferred. Alternate training may be accepted in lieu of public safety training, i.e., military or civilian police, degree courses in criminal justice, specialized certification programs, etc.
2. High school diploma or equivalent, with sufficient communicative skills to read and understand instructions, and to clearly express both written and verbal ideas.
3. Must be available for overtime as required.
