JOB SUMMARY

Responsibilities Make a difference - join our Spiritual Care team!

We are seeking students or professionals interested in pursuing their Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE). Housed within Spiritual Care at TMH, our CPE Program provides students with the opportunity to learn and demonstrate their spiritual care-giving skills, develop their pastoral/spiritual identity, and explore their reflections on spiritual care ministry in a diverse setting. We offer both single unit internships and long-term residencies to help our residents meet their personal and professional goals.

 CPE Residency Program

Our CPE Residency Program for this year begins August 2025. Our 12 month, full-time CPE Program yields 3-4 units of CPE.  

We are offering 5 full-time positions. The salary for these positions is $43,888 annually with the opportunity to purchase benefits at employee pricing. Applications are accepted year-round

Requirements for Admission:
  • Bachelor’s Degree.  Preferred: Graduate-level theological education from a CHEA accredited seminary
  • Completed and up-to-date ACPE application, including copies of both self and educator's evaluation
  • Successful completion of a first unit of CPE (preferred)
  • Successful onsite interview with TMH Admissions Committee
  • Payment of $25.00 application fee

**What You Will Do**
**Patient care:**
Provide professional pastoral and spiritual care to patients and their loved ones, using excellent listening, observational, assessment, and interventional skills. Assess patient and family spiritual resources and vulnerabilities, offering corresponding interventions. Document care in electronic medical record, using Pastoral Care standardized processes. Ability to respond to calls within 10 minutes and arrive within 30 minutes. Provide on-call report when called into the hospital.
**Support Pastoral Care Department:**
Report payroll exceptions promptly. Participate in Pastoral Care staff meetings. Be knowledgeable of and comply with all Pastoral Care Department policies and procedures. Complete required Pastoral Care Department training and any MyTalent modules when assigned. When providing in-house coverage, participate in the ritual life of the hospital, e.g., FINAL SALUTES, memorial services, award ceremonies, and other similar celebrations and special events within the hospital. Perform other duties as assigned.

+ Develops effective relationship with other disciplines and participates in patient care teams.
+ Represents the Department of Pastoral Care in the community, collaborates with local faith groups, congregations, and clergy. Develops outreach to enhance community service by the department and increase resources for patients, families, and staff.
+ Promote an interdisciplinary approach to pastoral care among all chaplains and with clinical staff.
+ Maintains leadership skills for mentoring volunteers and CPE students, overseeing special projects, and leading groups or teams to accomplish goals of the Department and UTMB.
+ Participates as a full member of the Department of Pastoral Care, including regular attendance of staff meetings, collaboration with the CPE program initiatives, rotating duties of chapel prayer services and on-call coverage. Serves on institutional committees as appointed.
+ Participates in the department's plan for continuous quality improvement.
+ Participates in regular professional development activities and supervision.
+ Performs other related duties as assigned.

**Job Summary** **:**
Provide spiritual and emotional support to patients, their families, visitors, and staff at assigned facility or home hospice. Work collaboratively with the Department of Pastoral Care staff and participates in department activities and events. Chaplains provide spiritual care and bereavement services to all patients served by Roper St. Francis Healthcare including Palliative Care, Home Hospice, and the Roper Hospice Cottage.
**Minimum Qualifications** **:**
**Education:** Four units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) and Master of Divinity Degree or equivalent. If equivalency, a letter from APC (Association of Professional Chaplains) is required.
**Experience:** One year experience as a hospital or hospice chaplain, or one year experience in parish/church ministry.
**Licensure/Certification:** Certified (or eligible for certification) by the National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC), or the Association of Professional Chaplains is required. If not certified, certification must be maintained within 24 months in position.
