**Job Description Summary:**
This position is an intermediate level that works with multiple computer systems and/or performs specimen processing duties including accessioning, determining specimen viability, identifying and resolving labeling/identification discrepancies and contacting physicians regarding issues with patients/orders, patient registration, proper patient billing including the use of ICD-9 codes and pertinent knowledge of commercial and government payers. Position handles blood, tissue, fecal matter, sputum, urine, spinal fluid and other body fluids. Specimens may be contaminated with infectious diseases including HIV and other blood borne pathogens.
**Responsibilities And Duties:**

Depending on site, various duties include medical necessity, hospital order entry, registration, clarify orders and CPTs, processing specimens, draw blood, liaison to clinical staff. 2.

Job Description

· Set-up and conduct experiments in accordance with Protocol and SOP's.

· Conduct laboratory testing on clinical pathology specimens, including automated immunoassay analysis, hematology, coagulation, serum chemistry, and urinalysis, according to established protocols, timelines and established procedures (SOPs) to generate high-quality, error-free, results.

· Meticulously maintain precise records of all experiments in accordance with Good Laboratory Practices.

· Perform routine maintenance on the lab equipment and troubleshoot with vendor technicians as needed.

· Assist in generating and maintaining applicable Standard Operating Procedures.

· Assist with the in lab validations of instruments and assays.

· Assist in the writing of validation reports.

· Meticulously maintains inventory and lab costs, and communicates finding to laboratory manager.

· Follow all PSL safety requirements.

· Ability to safely wear a respirator required.

· Oversees day to day procedures.

· Leads training of Clinical Pathology Laboratory Scientists.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • B.S. or M.S. degree or equivalent experience in laboratory animal medicine, toxicology, animal science or biology is preferred.
  • Five years of experience conducting standard clinical pathology testing is required.

The individual holding this position must be of the highest integrity and have a very strong sense of responsibility. He/she must be mature, well organized, capable of adapting to a broad spectrum of responsibilities and able to maintain meticulous and accurate records. **PURPOSE OF JOB:**
The Assistant Director of Clinical Pathology will report directly to the Director of Clinical Pathology. This position will oversee roughly half of the clinical pathologists, and will be responsible for monitoring, training, reviewing and mentoring Pathologists in their current assignments, as well as contributing to career development. The Clinical Pathologist in this position will dedicate 50% of the time to interpreting cytology, hematology and urine sediments and complete diagnostic reports. The remainder 50% of the time will be dedicated to managerial and administrative duties.
**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:**

**Essential Job Duties**
**Medical Direction.** Provides medical direction and oversight for all clinical pathology services within PALM Services and as a member of the medical leadership for PALM, emphasizes safety, quality assurance, consumer and patient experience, and provider engagement, and approval of standards and policies for these services.
**Conformance with Policies** . Provides such medical direction in conformance with applicable IHCHS policies and procedures established from time to time by the IHCHS, applicable standards of The Joint Commission ("TJC"),
Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act ("HIPAA"), the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act ("EMTALA"), any and all applicable requirements of federal, state, or local laws, rules, and/or regulations, or third party reimbursement sources (public or private) covering the Medical Director's services.
**Records** . Keep or cause to be kept in the PALM Services accurate and complete administrative records, in an adequate filing system to be furnished by IHCHS. The Medical Director shall ensure compliance with all PALM Services, governmental and applicable TJC record keeping and recording requirements.
**Training** . Assists IHCHS in the training of IHCHS personnel where appropriate, including in-service education, providing such training is within the scope of the Medical Director's practice.
**Development of Policies** . Leads the development of standardization for Clinical pathology, with approval of such policies to be pursued as may be necessary in accordance with Medical Staff Bylaws of the respective facilities of IHCHS. The Medical Director shall assist in securing compliance with these policies by all IHCHS personnel.
**Quality of Care Utilization** . Assures that utilization and quality of care studies are regularly performed in accordance with IHCHS policy and accreditation standards.
**Clinical Pathology Services Coverage** . Directs physician leadership to provide medical support for Clinical Pathology so that at least one physician shall remain available to meet the needs of IHCHS.
**Cooperation** . Cooperates closely with other IHCHS departments.
**Outside Agencies** . Coordinates with outside agencies as necessary
**Equipment/SuppIies.** From time to time and with operations, determines the need for necessary equipment and supplies and submit requisitions for the same to the IHCHS administration. Such requisitions shall be processed in accordance with established Il-ICHS budgeting and purchasing procedures.
**Rules and Regulations** . Represents and warrants to IHCHS that PALM Services hereunder will be provided in adherence to principles of professional ethics and IHCHS rules and regulations, including but not limited to:  Reporting of defective equipment;
+ Reporting of incompetent employees;
+ Maintenance of confidentiality of 11--ICHS affairs and business; and  Maintaining adequate records as set forth by IHCHS.
**Meetings** . Attend various meetings of PALM Services in order to provide clinical direction to PALM Services staff. Meetings that the Medical Director shall attend include, but are not limited to PALM Services meetings, Il-ICHS quality assurance meetings, and administration meetings.
**Professional Demeanor and Engagement** . Maintains a professional demeanor and collegial relationship and advance engagement as measured by the system surveys and methodologies with PALM Services, support staff, patients, IHCHS employees, and other members of the health care community.
Minimum Requirements
+ M.D. or D.O. Education must be obtained through an accredited institution. Degree will be verified.
+ Board certified in relevant Clinical Pathology medical specialty and active Utah Medical Licensure, or in process of obtaining licensure.

Performs a variety of tasks in support of pathologists and other allied healthcare providers. The Pathology Department is seeking an **_Assistant Administrator - Clinical_** to provide leadership and management of the financial, operational, and administrative activities within a clinical department. The position reports directly to the Associate Administrator. _Financial_

Position Summary
This position will provide medical laboratory technology services to the Clinical Pathology laboratory. This position is responsible for providing clinical laboratory support to the VTH and outside clients primarily by operating and maintaining laboratory equipment, performing appropriate and necessary calibrations and quality control checks to ensure accuracy of results, implementing manual methods, diagnosing and investigating errors, and taking action to correct or refer, computing, recording and reporting results. The work involves the areas of Sample Accessioning, Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Immunohematology, and Fluid Analysis/Cytology.
This position will provide training as necessary, and the applicant will be required to reach the level of competency needed.
This position may be required to step into any laboratory testing situation and complete any laboratory task as a float position between the various sections in Clinical Pathology to relieve the working supervisor and other staff from laboratory testing. This position will be expected to provide exceptional service to clientele.
The applicant should be responsible and able to work in a team environment. This is an essential position, and the employee is required to report to work, without delay, on all/most weather closure days and various holidays throughout the year. This position will be required to report to work for urgent laboratory requests and may be required to work significant hours (exceeding 40 hours per week) for various important diagnostic efforts. The Clinical Pathology laboratory is staffed M-F 6am-2am and Sat-Sun 8am-12am. While this position would have scheduled shifts the majority of the time, the applicant may be asked on short notice to work a shift during any of these hours.

Responsibilities: Specimen Processing and Gross Description of Surgical Specimens: • Accurately and efficiently provides gross descriptions of all surgical specimens • Is competent and adept in the use of Dragon Voice recognition • Independently troubleshoots issues with Dragon Voice. • Creates new templates for dictation for Dragon Voice. • Accurately and efficiently dissects tissue and puts the tissue into a properly labeled cassette for processing • Accurately and efficiently prints cassettes as needed • Accurately and efficiently completes worksheets for each specimen. • Ensures specimen comments, which include IHC, special stains, and levels are transcribed correctly onto the specimen worksheets. • Accurately and efficiently performs frozen sections with staining and delivery of frozen section slides within the acceptable time limits


Minimum Qualifications:  

Education: Minimum of a Baccalaureate degree. Degree in biomedical or health sciences preferred. Completion of NAACLS accredited Pathologist’s Assistant program required; Masters degree in Health Science preferred.


Certification: Current Pathologist’s Assistant certification through the American Society for Clinical Pathology is required and must be maintained in good status throughout employment. Experience: New certified graduates acceptable but 3 or more years experience in a clinical pathology setting preferred. Must have dictation experience; experience with Voice recognition preferred Must have some experience with pathology computer systems
