Job Description

The Patient Care Assistant supports the department by providing direct patient care (i.e. clinical and administrative duties). Patient Care Assistant will be crossed trained and expected to perform duties outlined in Track 1 and Track 2.

  • Review visit summary with patients upon discharge by provider.
  • Ensure proper processing and specimens are securely enclosed for transport to the lab.
Clinical Duties - Track 2
  • Prepare rooms for clinical examination and patient procedures as directed.
  • Ensure materials/supplies/equipment are fully stocked and available.
  • Assist Medical Providers with procedures/testing and ensure proper documentation in medical record: (Pap smears, colposcopy, biopsy, vaginal cultures, pelvic/breast exam, male exam, incision and drainage, throat cultures, nebulizer treatments and other procedures as indicated by the provider.)
  • Obtain and review medical records of all diagnostic/lab reports.
  • Collect, transport, disinfect, and prepare instruments for sterilization process in accordance with policy and procedure.
  • Perform high-level disinfection (HLD) and sterilization of instruments, as assigned and manufacturer guidelines.

Quality Assurance/Compliance

  • Ensure proper documentation/logging and disposal of medication into the hazardous/black box.

Metro Infectious Disease Consultants is seeking a full-time Patient Care Assistant (Medical Assistant)  to work at the clinic located in Naperville, IL.

This Assistant’s responsibilities include all duties related to the back-office with occasional front desk duties. Responsibilities assigned to individuals can and will change at any time at the discretion of management or the supervisor.

Back Office Responsibilities:

1) Escort patients from reception to exam room, documenting height, weight, blood pressure and temperature as indicated, document patient’s chief complaint and notify doctor when patient is ready to be seen

2) Stock exam rooms with supplies each morning, clean rooms between patients

3) Maintain inventory of medical supplies, completing requisitions (order forms) in a timely manner to ensure supplies are not depleted

4) Other tasks as assigned by management

Front Office Responsibilities:

1) Filing of all scanned paperwork daily

2) Fax clinic schedules to physicians for next clinic day.

3) Prepare travel chart weekly

4) Open and distribute mail, daily

5) Print schedule for following clinic day. Verity that all progress notes and super-bills are attached

6) Order office supplies

7) Answer telephone calls, including closed offices at different locations

8) Page on consultations to physicians. Page should include consult, hospital, patient name, room number, referring physician, and hospital phone number with appropriate extension

9) Make appointments for new and existing patients according to set guidelines. If patient is new, directions should be given

10) Handle and process billing information daily

11) Handle and process dictation, letters, and physician orders daily

12) Register patients, enter and/or update patient demographics, make copies of vital information

13) Collect co-payments and past due balances from patients at check-in/check-out desk

14) Coordinate and process referral information for managed care patients

15) Process medical records requests

16) Escort patients from reception to exam room, documenting height, weight, blood pressure and temperature as indicated, document patient’s chief complaint and notify doctor when patient is ready to be seen

17) Obtain laboratory specimens as requested, completing lab requisitions and preparing samples for pick-up by lab. Document same in Medical Record

18) Ensure superbills are completed at visit end, including, visit code, diagnoses and all labs ordered

Requirements

  • Must have at least (1) one year of clinical practice experience, preferably in an office setting
  • Must be comfortable with back office responsibilities
  • High school Education or equivalent
  • Proof of current vaccinations, including recommended boosters, commonly required for those working with immunocompromised patients, including measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, hepatitis A & B, influenza, and COVID-19.

Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital opened in June 2017 as the eighth hospital in the Houston Methodist system. This 267-bed, 725,000-square-foot, full-service, acute-care hospital offers many of the same services as our flagship hospital in the Texas Medical Center. Also, on the beautiful hospital campus, located at the intersection of Interstate 45 and Texas State Highway 242, are two medical office buildings, which include a Breast Care Center; Cancer Center; infusion center; heart and vascular services; neurology; orthopedics and sports medicine; rehabilitation services; wellness services; an outpatient laboratory; and several other multispecialty physician practices. In January 2022, Houston Methodist The Woodlands opened Healing Tower - a $250 million expansion project that added 106 beds, focused on medical-surgical and women's services, and provided nine operating rooms. The project also included the expansion of the endoscopy center, emergency department and diagnostic imaging department with an enhanced neurodiagnostic and interventional center.
