Position Summary:

Registration clerks are responsible for obtaining patient demographic, insurance and financial information including but not limited to performing scheduling, registration, patient pre-admission and admission, reception, and discharge functions.

Registration clerks also must employ proper, compliant patient liability collection techniques before, during and after the date of service. Escorting of patients/visitors to appropriate areas, or obtaining, wheelchair, etc. Arranges for patients to speak with financial counselors if needed. Registration clerks also ensure medical necessity checks/verification which may be in the form of authorization requests or advance beneficiary notification forms.

Insurance authorization/notifications may or may not result from an automated tool which can include inpatient, or outpatient scheduled or unscheduled hospital charges.

Education, License & Cert:

  • Associate degree in health care, Finance or related area. In lieu of degree, two (2) years' experience is required in Front Office Assistant, Registration, Insurance Verification, Scheduling/Call Center, or Banking.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology required, with a medical terminology course completion.
  • Proficiency with office computer software including Microsoft Word and Excel required.
  • Must possess an abiding commitment to basic ethical and legal principles, including familiarity with HIPAA and Protected Health Information


Experience:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Must have proven clerical skills, including typing, filing, scanning, with the ability to communicate with the public, doctors, nurses, and patients
  • Proven ability to work with computers, electronic devices, telephones, electronic web sites, and fax machines
  • Working knowledge of Medical Terminology

Other Duties:

  • Responsible for interviewing patients or their representatives to obtain complete patient registration and required third party billing information, to include all demographic and insurance information. Registration may include assisting patients with electronic check-in devices and enrollment in electronic registration tools or devices
  • Obtains all required information and signatures to complete all patient type visit creation, and third-party billing information accurately and as appropriate
  • Obtain any authorization information required for procedures and signing of financial waivers as appropriate
  • Demonstrates current knowledge of clinical computer systems
  • Prepares charts, requisitions, and other assigned work according to the department guidelines
  • Ensures accurate data entry of all patient types
  • Answers the telephone and responds to requests appropriately and in a timely manner.
  • Accurately records diagnosis and/or ICD9 code. Ability to transcribe physician orders to enter any and all pertinent visit information accurately.
  • Accurately pre-registers different patient types using all available data, resources, and policies.
  • Assures accurate patient identification by preparing labels and wristband. Places Patient Identification band on the wrist of patient at all times
  • Works closely with other Departments to ensure coordination of inter-departmental functions related to, but not limited to, the processing of patient information
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a wide cross-section of individuals, to include employees, patients, medical staff, and general public, in a courteous and tactful manner, upholding all aspects of Guthrie Corning Hospital Customer Service requirements, in order to interact effectively.

  • Maintains desired attendance level, arrives on time at start of scheduled shift and returns promptly after breaks and lunch periods
  • May be required to work holidays, weekends, and shifts other than those regularly assigned


Further competencies will be designated by the Patient Registration, Emergency Dept, or Business Office Manager as changes in technology and patient care requirements occur.

The pay range for this position $17.10-$24.64/hour

Responsibilities:
- Answer and manage a multi-line phone system, ensuring the smooth flow of communication
- Deliver exceptional customer service, addressing patient inquiries and concerns promptly and professionally
- Execute data entry tasks, keeping patient records up-to-date and accurate
- Correspond via email, providing clear and concise information to patients and team members
- Utilize strong interpersonal skills to build rapport with patients and enhance their experience
- Employ Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, and Microsoft Word to manage and organize files
- Schedule appointments, ensuring a well-coordinated flow of patients
- Adapt to varied shifts, demonstrating flexibility and commitment
- Use your experience in customer-facing roles such as cashiers, bartenders, waiters, waitresses, etc., to enhance patient pacing and overall satisfaction.

We are currently seeking dedicated Patient Registration professionals to join our team in multiple areas of care. The Patient Registration role is essential for ensuring smooth patient flow and excellent customer service across various medical settings. Available Shifts (3 Openings)
Shift 1: Emergency Room (ER)
+ Sunday, Monday, Tuesday | 6:00 PM - 6:00 AM
+ Wednesday | 6:00 PM - 12:00 AM
Shift 2: Surgery Center (Outpatient)
+ Monday - Friday | 4:15 AM - 12:45 PM (No weekends)
+ OR Monday - Friday | 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM (No weekends)
Shift 3: Cath Lab/Heart Surgery Area (Outpatient)
+ Monday - Friday | 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM (No weekends)
+ OR Monday - Friday | 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM (No weekends)
Pay Rate
+ $18/hour for 1-2 years of relevant experience
+ $20/hour for 3+ years of relevant experience
Responsibilities
+ Greet and register patients accurately and efficiently
+ Manage patient scheduling and appointment coordination
+ Support clinical staff with administrative tasks as needed
+ Ensure compliance with patient confidentiality and HIPAA regulations
+ Deliver excellent customer service to patients and families
+ Maintain accurate records and filing systems

We are looking for a compassionate and detail-oriented Patient Registration Specialist to join our Emergency Department team in Tarzana, California. In this contract position, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring patients are registered efficiently and accurately during critical moments. This role requires strong communication skills, empathy, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced healthcare environment. The position is from 2 pm - 10:30 pm Monday - Friday and rotating weekends.
Responsibilities:
- Welcome patients and their families to the Emergency Department with professionalism and empathy.
- Collect and validate patient demographic and insurance information to ensure accuracy.
- Obtain and securely scan necessary documents, including identification and insurance cards.
- Explain financial responsibilities such as co-payments and assist patients with payment collection.
- Accurately input patient data into the electronic health record system.
- Collaborate with clinical staff to facilitate smooth patient flow and minimize delays.
- Address patient and visitor inquiries with a calm and supportive demeanor.
- Adhere to hospital policies and maintain compliance with organizational standards.
- Perform additional administrative tasks as required to support the department.
Requirements - High School Diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework is a plus.
- Previous experience in healthcare registration, admissions, or patient access is strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in multitasking and data entry with strong organizational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Ability to remain calm and focused in high-pressure situations.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and electronic health record systems is preferred.
- Availability to work alternating weekends.
