Overview:

As a part of the customer service team, you will support eligible cancer patients and their caregivers through their journey. We are deeply committed to providing patients/caregivers with an exceptional service experience, so they are well-positioned for treatment and to receive care.


We are looking for someone who is service-oriented with the ability to drive insights and operational enhancements in a dynamic environment, while remaining forward-thinking to proactively and reactively respond to patient and caregiver needs. A successful candidate must have excellent communication and critical thinking skills. This role represents a unique opportunity to directly assist patients/caregivers in close partnership with internal and external supplier partners.


The Patient Support Specialist will play a critical role in managing the day-to-day operations of the patient support program by assisting with patient/caregiver eligibility, enrollment, travel logistics and reimbursement where appropriate. To best support patients and their caregivers, the team will be set up as contact center with operating hours of 7:30AM to 8PM Monday through Friday in which you will be expected to work 8.5 hour shifts within operating hours.


The team operates on a hybrid/remote schedule, working 3 days in-office, 2 days remote.

This team operates on 4-week rotation schedule; all candidates must be comfortable with rotating shifts. Example of shifts:

-- 1 Week: 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM

-- 2 Weeks: 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM

-- 1 Week: 11:30 AM - 8:00 PM

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the point person for a select number of patients/caregivers in supporting their treatment through an online case management system
  • Respond to inquiries from patients/caregivers/sites regarding the patient support service offerings using a call guide resource
  • Perform administrative functions of requesting and responding to travel and logistics, sometimes urgently since last minutes change is highly probable while staying calm and offering support to the patient/caregiver
  • Validate patient travel expenditures in compliance with SOPs and provide reimbursement through third-party supplier partner
  • Enter and maintain accurate data and records into the patient management tool in compliance with the program requirements
  • Follow all SOPs to ensure program compliance in working with patients and capturing data requirements needed for the program
  • Capture all required elements for enrolled patients to process reimbursement and ensure compliance with the program requirements
  • Proactively work with patients/caregivers showing empathy and compassion throughout their treatment plan
  • Work to monitor performance and help find operational improvements in the end-to-end patient experience so that we can continue to improve our service offerings over time in support patients
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree required; B.S. or B.A. degree preferred
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience is required, pharmaceutical/medical call center experience preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to demonstrate patient empathy and support is required, bilingual capabilities are a plus
  • Ability to learn and work within IT platforms to document patient cases
  • Effectively collaborate in a team environment that will require you to coordinate activities and build partnerships across internal/external organizations
  • Skilled in problem-solving and using personal knowledge and any other valuable resources to work through ambiguous situations and ensure a positive customer experience
  • Demonstrates excellent care management and ability to maintain records, in accordance with the program design and compliance standards
  • Eager to take ownership, be proactive, and see patients/caregivers through their entire CAR-T journey
  • This position will be in Horsham, PA at the CAR-T contact center and may require limited travel to other locations for business meetings (temporarily remote)

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work positively as a team member alongside professionals who are providing respiratory care services to patients and their families in need.
  • Perform duties of a broad nature while working in a fast-paced environment, which include ability to have decision making, problem solving, and excellent customer service skills.
  • Support incoming referrals and orders for delivery and pick up (including but not limited to) patient demographics, emergency contact information, insurance information and verification, physician information, diagnosis, and billing information.

  • Responsible for assembly, setup testing, and demonstration of equipment upon the order of a licensed physician.
  • Complete verification of insurance for DME coverage and prior authorization information, (including but not limited to) deductible, effective date, and claims address.
  • Work with patients/clients to solve a variety of problems, thereby acting as a company field representative.
  • Work with family or referral source and/or personnel on delivery and/or pick up arrangements.
  • Support billing personnel, providing documents needed for reimbursement.
  • Assist with overall daily operations including intake and quality assurance at existing and new locations.
  • Instruct patients/clients in the proper use and care of equipment according to the written policies and procedures for that equipment.
  • Rotate to various branches to support the business and patients, as business needs dictate.
  • Support onsite Respiratory Therapist, assisting as a liaison between the company and the patient/client, family, caregiver, physician, and other healthcare agencies and staff on the case.
  • Work with onsite and/or assigned Respiratory Therapist to implement discharge plans for agency patients/clients.
  • Must be flexible and willing to provide support and/or coverage when primary staff is unavailable at various locations due to continued education, vacation, leave, etc.
  • CONFIDENTIALITY: Ensuring compliance with confidentiality and data protection regulations, as required in healthcare.
  • Support the organization by being loyal and informing management of areas of concern and problems to be resolved.
  • Must be willing to work after normal business hours and on weekends.

  • Hours: Generally, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM, Monday-Friday.

What's this role all about?

The Patient Support Specialist at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is responsible for all aspects of processing inpatient Imaging orders and helping the tech in charge, with coordinating patient flow. You will be expected to organize, prioritize and perform work in a timely and efficient manner, within established guides, practices and procedures. Using critical thinking skills, make judgment calls and involve the radiologist, nurse and technologist when necessary. 

Summary of Essential Duties:
  • Coordinates multiple inpatient procedures, including ultrasound, vascular, mammography and nuclear medicine.
  • Schedules, modifies, reschedules, and cancels requests and coordinates inter/intra department to assist with patient flow. 
  • Dispatches transportation staff and coordinates radiologist-assisted procedures. 
  • Monitors incoming orders and the Inpatient worklist throughout the day for new orders, makes calls to nursing floors regarding exam time estimates, and provides exam-specific information. 
  • Dispatches the portable technologists and keeps them informed of new portable requests, verifies inpatient orders, and obtains exam specific lab results. 
  • Assists the technologists in maintaining the RIS open orders, using PACS as a checkpoint. 
  • Telephone duties include taking incoming calls; triaging, screening, and forwarding calls to appropriate areas. 

Qualifications

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED required

Experience: 

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a fast-paced and complex environment where critical thinking skills are necessary required
  • Previous experience in a medical environment is desirable
  • Medical terminology knowledge is preferred
  • Requires strong interpersonal skills for interacting with physicians, nurses, technologists, patients and other customers and personnel of the Medical Center
  • Experience demonstrating the ability to handle multiple tasks, ability to prioritize and organize work, and complete assignments timely and accurately required
  • Windows based PC experience required

Position Summary:
Perform patient care and support activities to promote a patient focused care environment. Transport patients within the hospital, assist procedure performance and processing, assist data entry of information into Hospital information system (s), order and stock supplies, maintain unit equipment, and assist patients. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups.

Detailed responsibilities:
* COMMUNICATION - Communicate with staff to assure that patient is ready for transport
* COMMUNICATION - Communicate with patients to inform of reason for transport and to promote learning
* PATIENT CARE - Assist patients with basic ADLS
* PATIENT CARE - Answer patients' lights and provide patient service within skill level, or relay patient's request to appropriate care giver
