Reports to: VP of Production

We have an exciting opportunity for a pattern maker on our production team in Los Angeles, California!

We are seeking a talented and experienced Pattern Maker with experience in women’s active wear, woven, and knits to join our team. Someone who has a real passion for construction and working at a fast pace. As a Pattern Maker, your primary role will be dedicated to creating size-inclusive, well-fitting, and high-quality garments. Ideally, someone who enjoys apparel, patterns, and solving construction puzzles is highly desired.

Key Responsibilities:

    • Create Patterns based off photos, sketches, or reference samples.
    • Pattern adjustments to existing patterns
    • Executing patterns from 1st proto through production for all private brand categories
    • Lead fittings and work closely with the design team to execute fit intent
    • Develop fit blocks, construction standards, and quality guidelines for multiple brands
    • Manage workflow based off the company calendar
      • Using tracking reports for all sample approvals, spec changes etc.
    • Monitor and contribute to the accuracy of all tech packs including POMs, BOM, Construction Callouts, Graded Specs and Pattern Cards

Requirements

Requirements & Skills:

  • Proven skill as a Pattern Maker with a minimum of 5+ years experience in creating patterns for women’s wovens and knits
  • Tukatech experience is required
  • Activewear experience is required
  • Detail-oriented with a keen eye for fit accuracy and precision
  • Bring expertise in textiles, pattern making, grading, and construction
  • Knowledge of garment specs and grading
  • Proficiency in using MS Office, Adobe Illustrator, and PLM systems
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively within a team
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • This role will report on-site, M-F, at our production facility in Los Angeles, CA
  • Spanish speaking is a plus

What Youll Do


Plan and execute complex hand-finishing operations on metal castings

Fabricate patterns, core boxes, and molds from various materials

Layout, align, and fasten split sections for plates or cope and drag assemblies

Perform highly intricate layout and template work from prints

Setup and operate machine toolsmanual and CNCwith customized setups

Create and modify CNC programs using SolidWorks (Mastercam preferred)

Apply pattern making knowledge to develop and improve processes

Conduct bench work: fitting, polishing, scraping, and inspection

Interpret prints and detect errors, escalating complex issues when needed

Patternmaker

The Patternmaker is responsible for bringing apparel designs to life in a tangible manner by working closely with the Design and Technical Design teams while creating and maintaining the fit, form, function, and specifications of the garments. Their main responsibility is to create 1st through production patterns and tech packs that reflect standard fit and specs while executing Design's vision and ensuring said patterns are ready to be adapted for bulk production

Responsibilities:

  • Participates in product review meetings and other presentations as necessary. Works directly with the Technical Design, Sample room team, and Designers and Production Management
  • Develop accurate sample & production patterns based on sketches from the design department
  • Attend fittings for both sample and production garments and perform necessary corrections as a result of fitting notes/revisions
  • Continually research new ideas & concepts for potential future designs
  • Troubleshoot potential production issues before samples are made, for both aesthetic & cost purposes
  • Maintain all standards in regard to grading, construction, how-to-measure, and other procedures
  • Actively collaborate with design department, other pattern maker, quality control staff, and product development department
  • Monitor garment/fabric shrinkage
  • Complete assignments in a timely & accurate manner
  • Work directly with department managers and following all tech pack requirements
  • Identifies problems and/or opportunities, makes recommendations and takes a leadership role with the implementation of solutions that improve department efficiency and quality of garment development
  • Applies technical expertise to troubleshoot hold ups and remove bottlenecks in development and pre-production engineering process.
  • High draping skills

Required skills:

  • 10+ years pattern making experience required
  • Computer Cad system experience required
  • Experience with Gerber and Manual Patterns
  • Functional knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of Centric PLM is a plus
  • Bachelor's degree or fashion school degree in Fashion Merchandising or Pattern Making preferred
  • Highly motivated in achieving deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Compensation:

At Reformation, we believe in transparency and equity when it comes to compensation. For this role, the anticipated base salary range is $85,000-$20,000 + bonus 5% depending on a variety of factors, including but not limited to relevant experience, skills, qualifications, and internal compensation equity.

This role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on a range of factors, including company performance, department goals, and individual contributions. Bonus amounts and eligibility are not guaranteed and are determined at the company's discretion.

**What you'll do:**
- Plan, layout and perform a wide variety of extremely complex and difficult hand finishing operations on rough castings of complicated forms to be used as patterns, core boxes and permanent molds.
- Make build-ups or fabricate patterns, core boxes and permanent molds made of various materials.
- Layout, align and fasten split sections to make plates or cope and drag plates. Duties require extremely difficult layout to establish inter-relationship of dimensions. Establish interim dimensions not shown on prints.
- Setup and operate all types of machine tools, plus conventional and numerical controlled machines, devising and improvising tooling and setup for individual requirements.
- Must be capable of programming software for CNC machining such as the use of SolidWorks.
- Required to know pattern making techniques and processes but may develop own as required.
- Perform hand and bench operations requiring intricate operations such as fitting, polishing, scraping, etc.
- Check work to required tolerances and layout and make templates when necessary. Make allowance for draft, shrinkage and finish. Detect errors in prints and specifications and refer these and other unusual conditions to superior.
- Perform Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) activities such as minor maintenance that includes cleaning, inspection, minor lubrication and tightening loose bolts.

WE ARE CURRENTLY HIRING A SENIOR TECHNICAL DESIGNER AND PATTERN MAKER AT OUR DOWNEY, CA LOCATION  


OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION

As a Senior Technical Designer, you will partner with Design, Product Development, and Production to ensure fit and construction are at the highest level of quality standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create and maintain proto tech packs (for full package), from design sketches that ensure first proto samples meet design’s intent on styling, fit, quality, and construction.
  • Collaborate with the design team to develop initial specs for each new season. Provide constructive feedback and dialogue during the handoff stage.
  • Tech packs to include detailed construction sketches and instructions, tolerances, graded measurement specifications, how to measure sketches on an exception basis, BOM, and any special handling instructions.
  • Daily communication with import and domestic vendors addressing all questions and concerns.
  • Attend and lead weekly fittings for all samples from proto, through production fit stages.
  • Provide fit comments that include technical direction on how to improve the fit and construction of a garment. Review patterns provided by vendors and give suggestions on pattern adjustments where needed.
  • Provide accurate patterns to cutting and sewing departments. Work with in house cutting and sewing teams to execute samples.
  • Provide pattern and garment measurements for non-full package styles on pattern card.
  • Maintain all grading, construction, how to measure, and procedural standards.
  • Escalate any requested design changes that impact standards, cost or aesthetics from the samples to Management and Production team so that cost analysis can be accomplished & change can be addressed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
     

REQUIRED SKILLS, COMPETENCIES, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Design / Apparel Engineering / Pattern Making, or equivalent training combined with work experience.

EXPERIENCE

  • Work experience in the apparel industry in a Technical Design and Pattern Making - MINIMUM 10+ years for Senior level.
  • Expert in pattern-making, sewing, and garment construction
  • Must have experience in all categories woven, knits, and sweaters
  • Accumark 8.2 (Gerber)
  • Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)
  • Photoshop preferred, but not required
  • PDM experience preferred, but not required
  • Illustrator preferred, but not required

COMPETENCIES REQUIRED 

  • Must be highly organized, detail oriented and experienced in proactive problem solving.

PAY TRANSPARENCY 

This position pays $37.50 per hour and is eligible for overtime pay.

**Primary Location:** United States (US) - Iowa - Waterloo
As a **Pattern Maker** with John Deere Waterloo Foundry, you will:
Lay out, construct, finish, check, modify and maintain complex wood, metal, plaster and/or plastic patterns, models, and related pattern equipment. This includes core boxes and fixtures which have angles and relationships between holes and sections difficult to hold and which require considerable hand work due to the number of projections or angles.
Job details are dependent on duties assigned but in general consist of the following:
+ Make preliminary study of prints and make layout, sketches, and templates as necessary.
+ Select wood or block of metal to be used or rough casting or any other material which may be provided.
+ Determine parting line of pattern, amount of draft to be allowed, and type of cores to be used to produce castings. In addition, determine shrinkage to be expected.
+ Make allowances for machining and decide on working procedure.
+ Assemble parts and fasten together with screws, bolts, dowels, solder, glue, etc.
+ Finish metal pattern by filling low spots, misruns, and joints with solder or other material, then filing, scraping, grinding, sanding, and polishing.
+ Finish wood pattern by filling cracks and joints and making radii in angles with wood fillets, wax, or putty. File, sand and coat with shellac, lacquer, or other material.
+ Layout, construct and finish plastic or plaster patterns or core boxes.
+ Check, modify, and maintain existing wood, metal, plaster, plastic patterns, models, and supplementary equipment such as core patterns, core boxes, core driers, sample flasks, fixtures, etc.
+ Use and maintain standard pattern maker tools and equipment.
+ Assist and support other team members and work with minimal supervision.
+ Clean work area and perform other miscellaneous duties inherent to the job.
+ Work shifts (choice of shift based on seniority).
+ Go over job with supervisor, designer, or foundry supervisor to straighten out problems of construction or molding.
+ Finish up rough castings made from wood pattern and make plaster casts.
+ Instruct and direct work of apprentices.
**Minimum Qualifications:**
+ Must be at least 18 years of age.
+ Must be legally eligible to work in US on a full-time basis.
+ Patternmaking or Tool & Die Making journeyperson's cardora related AAS diploma withat least two yearsof relevant work experience.
+ Ability to perform manual tasks related to described job duties for duration of work shift; including but not limited to frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting.
+ Ability and willingness to work potential overtime (including weekends).

About The Role:

* Lead, coach, and develop a team of Fit Specialists to execute the global fit strategy.
* Partner with the Director of Global Fit to cascade direction and key initiatives across the team.
* Participate in creation of and monitor adherence of global fit standards and libraries including fit blocks, measurement guides, size charts, grading rules, POMs etc.
* Streamline and optimize the fit review process, ensuring alignment and consistency with brand standards in partnership with Product Development.
* Champion fit excellence, standardization, and consistency across Design, Product Development, Technical Design, and Product Education to ensure fit goals are met.
* Act as a quality control gatekeeper for fit-related processes and communication.
* Identify and resolve fit issues swiftly and accurately through technical and pattern making expertise and data analysis.
* Track team performance, capacity, and calendar adherence, flagging risks to leadership.
* Participate in seasonal fit reviews and provide seasonal tools for product education as well as insights to inform product creation and process improvements.
* Educate Fit Specialists, internal cross-functional teams as well as global vendors and manufacturing partners on fit standards, best practices, and luxury fit expectations.
* Support Director of Global fit in industry research and competitive analysis and share findings along with recommendations to the product creation team to keep the brand at the forefront of luxury fit standards.
* Support the Director of Global Fit in fit documentation updates and process innovation.
* Support the integration and adoption of fit technologies and new tools in collaboration with leadership.

About You:

* 7+ years of experience in technical design and pattern making for luxury brands.
* Bachelor's degree or certificate in Fashion Design, Patternmaking, Technical Design, or related field is advantageous.
* Experience in PLM, Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Illustrator & photoshop, Gerber (or related pattern making software).
* 3D experience a plus
* Strong foundation in garment construction, fit analysis, grading principles, and pattern making.
* Previous leadership or mentorship experience within a product team.
* Experience working with 3D software (e.g., CLO) is a plus.
* Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to multitask
* Collaborative, solution-oriented mindset with a passion for fit and the luxury customer experience.
