Job Summary
Performs preventive and therapeutic direct patient care. Meets the qualifications and holds appropriate licensure to provide care for patients of all ages.
Job Duties
+ Performs external and internal oral evaluations and records comprehensive periodontal and restorative dental charting.
+ Performs prophylactic treatment and provides services that may involve placement of sub-gingival agents, periodontal probing, scaling (manually or mechanically to remove subgingival and supragingival plaque, calculus or stains), root planning, and full mouth debridement.

+ Applies caries preventative agents including topical fluoride trays and varnish, dental sealants, desensitizing agents to root surfaces, and places temporary restorations when necessary.
+ Exposes and processes dental radiographs.
+ Provides patient education and home care protocols by discussing and demonstrating homecare techniques and products for patient use as part of an individualized self-care program.
+ May include the importance of good nutrition and tobacco cessation in maintaining optimal oral health.
+ Completes new medical questionnaire annually.
+ Updates and reviews medical health history and completes all electronic medical record screenings at every dental visit.
+ Cleans and sterilizes instruments and disinfects dental equipment and operatory.
+ Maintains responsibility for general operatory and clinic maintenance, as well as monitors expiration dates on supplies.
+ Maintains current professional license and technical skills with continuing education and mandatory in-house training programs and performance improvement activities as applicable.

Still University's Missouri School of Dentistry and Oral Health (ATSU-MOSDOH) is seeking a full-time Pediatric Dentistry Specialist/Assistant Specialty Care Unit Director at the St. Louis Clinic. This position reports to the Vice Dean, Clinical Operations, Clinical Education & Community Partnerships. This position is responsible for managing and mentoring MOSDOH students to assure attainment of clinical competency, teaching students the fundamentals of pediatric dentistry, and assuring provision of high quality pediatric services to patients.
Requirements
**Duties & Responsibilities:**
+ Mentoring and evaluating students in pediatric dentistry procedures on patients.
+ Establish procedures for pediatrics, in conjunction with the Specialty Care Unit Director.
+ Communicate with the Specialty Care Unit Director as to the educational goals, essential experiences and competencies for student experiences.
+ Complete administrative reports as directed.
+ Assure clinical competency for students in pediatrics.
+ Supervise pediatric residents/fellows as needed.
+ Provide indirect supervision of dental assistant(s) and provide performance review evaluations to the Dental Clinic Manager.
+ Provide didactic and laboratory instruction to pre-clinical students in Kirksville and D3 and D4 students in St. Louis.
+ Perform dental procedures on patients as needed.
+ Track student progress toward attainment of clinical competency and communicate progress & deficiencies on a periodic basis to the Vice Dean of Clinical Operations, Clinic Education & Community Partnerships.
+ Assurance of patient and students safety and report any deficiencies to the Vice Dean of Clinical Operations, Clinical Education & Community Partnerships.
+ Participate in calibration activities, to include semi-annual faculty advance.
+ Participate in ATSU/MOSDOH committee activities.
+ Potential for intermittent on-call and other outreach activities after hours.
+ Other duties as assigned.
**Education & Experience:**
+ DDS or DMD required.
+ Specialty certification in Pediatric Dentistry required.
+ At least two years of experience in a dental teaching environment.
+ At least two years of experience in the practice of Pediatric dentistry.
+ Excellent communication and organizational skills.
+ Must be self-directed and take initiative.
+ Must be highly skilled in Pediatric Dentistry.
