The Division provides a full range of clinical services including living and deceased donor transplantation, acute and chronic hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis, plasmapheresis, and CRRT. Driscoll Children s Hospital owns and operates the only freestanding pediatric hemodialysis unit in South Texas, with a 5-station unit in Corpus Christi, and a 4-station unit in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas, supported by a team of experienced dialysis nurses, and a dedicated dietitian, social workers, child life specialist services. The Division participates in numerous multidisciplinary family-centered outpatient services providing evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of kidney disorders of infants, children, and adolescents, conducting 3,200 outpatient and 1,250 inpatient visits annually. The Division has six faculty and a dedicated team of professionals including pediatric nurses, urologists, social workers, nutritionists, transplant surgeons, psychiatrists, child life specialists, and even a teacher for long-term patients.

In collaboration with the leadership of Montefiore Health System and Albert Einstein College of Medicine, this candidate will provide visionary and innovative leadership to guide the Division into its next phase of growth and development, including expanding services to the growing hospital system and practice network.

This telework position involves case evaluation, peer consultations, and maintaining required credentials to support healthcare claims review.

This telework opportunity allows you to customize your schedule and caseload within the week while maintaining client-mandated turnaround times. Our reviewers are compensated on a per-case basis as a 1099 independent contractor.

JOB SUMMARY

Utilizes clinical expertise, reviews insurance appeals, and prospective and retrospective claims. The physician reviewer will provide an interpretation of the medical necessity of services provided by other healthcare professionals in compliance with client-specific policies, nationally recognized evidence-based guidelines, and standards of care.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• All of our physician reviewers are contractors with Dane Street.
• A flat rate is offered for Group Health Record/Policy Reviews.
• Reviews all medical records and addresses each question posed by the client utilizing client-specific criteria or other nationally recognized evidence-based criteria
• Ensures that the rationale for the determination is clear, concise, and contains adequate supporting documentation to substantiate the decision
• Identifies, critiques, and utilizes current criteria and resources such as national, state, and professional association guidelines and peer-reviewed literature that support sound and objective decision-making and rationales in reviews; refrains from using case studies, cohorts, and the like to make decisions due to their limited sample sizes
• Provides copies of any criteria utilized in a review with the report promptly
• Makes telephone calls as mandated by the state and/or client specifics
• Peer to Peer calls may be required. Dane Street will help arrange any Peer to Peer phone calls, if needed.
• The average length of time to review each case is betweenminutes.
• The cases are prepared for you before they are provided for your review.
• Some cases may REQUIRE a short turnaround time meaning some cases may need to be reviewed the same day!
• Returns cases on or before the due date and time
• Maintains proper credentialing and state licenses and any special certifications or requirements necessary to perform the job
• Attends all required orientation and training
• Performs other duties as assigned including identifying and responding to quality assurance issues, complaints, regulatory issues, depositions, court appearances, or audits

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is looking for a board certified or eligible Pediatric Nephrologist with strong clinical and teaching skills to join our Division of Nephrology within the Department of Pediatrics. As the largest pediatric nephrology program in the state, we provide the most comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic services for children with all types of kidney disease. We have also expanded and enhanced the state s only dedicated multidisciplinary pediatric kidney transplant program and established an independent pediatric continuous renal replacement therapy program.

Ideal candidates will be:

• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Pediatric Nephrology
• Committed to MUSC s educational and research missions, and to teaching our pediatric nephrology fellows, residents, and medical students

About our opportunity:

• Provide comprehensive specialty care for patients on an inpatient and outpatient nephrology service including management of patients with acute and chronic kidney disease, renal replacement therapy (CRRT, PD, and HD), plasmapheresis, LDL-apheresis, and kidney transplantation.
• New surgical and clinical sites designed exclusively for children
• Join a collaborative and intellectually stimulating team of 4 faculty members and 1 Advanced Practitioner, and our ACGME pediatric nephrology fellow
