Petroleum Inspector

Position Summary

Performs sampling, pipeline transfers, inventories and barge inspections including line condition surveys. Performs vessel inspections under the direct supervision of a Senior Inspector. Certifies that field assignments conform to company policies and procedures as well as job specific instructions supplied by the Operations Department. As company field representative, acts in a professional and dignified manner to maintain the company's respected and trusted reputation.

Minimum Requirements
  • Requires a High School Diploma (or equivalent) with good math skills and a minimum three months of inspection experience.
  • Must complete Inspector level training and pass corresponding theoretical tests and field evaluations.
  • Must have or obtain IFIA certification after gaining at least six months of industry experience.
  • Must maintain a valid Transportation Worker's Identification Card (TWIC). Possess and maintain a vehicle in good working order, a valid driver's license, vehicle insurance and registration.
  • Must be dependable, able to work independently and be able to effectively communicate and maintain professional relationships with numerous clients (i.e., terminal and vessel/barge personnel).
  • Must pass company defined physical requirements. Must meet and maintain site-specific requirements mandated by customers and/or terminals to have access to all facilities.
Responsibilities

As instructed by the Operations Department and under the strict guidelines described in the Inspection and ASTM/API manuals:
  • Acts as a Company representative in the field. Must be able to perform duties and responsibilities as per company policies and procedures. Maintains regular contact with Operations Department to receive work orders and schedules.
  • Effectively communicates all aspects of assigned job duties. Maintains regular contact with Operations Department, terminals, and vessel to avoid delays or conflicts.
  • Obtains, labels and transports samples to the laboratory in a timely manner as required by each specific job assignment.
  • Maintains assigned inspection equipment in good working order and ensures equipment is properly calibrated and stored.
  • Measures (gauge and temperature) products and performs all required field calculations per the API Standards, completes all required field documentation and submits reports to the Operations Department in a timely manner.
  • Performs specialized inspection services such as loss control, wall washings or confined space entry upon receiving required training.
  • Assists in the training of Probationary and Junior Inspectors.

Fitness for Duty - Physical Demands

Workday may consist of 8-12 hours; however, this can vary day to day or shift to shift. Much of the work is performed outdoors, wearing full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and could include possible exposure to high and low temperatures for prolonged duration of time. Work may be performed during day or nighttime hours and may involve working alone.

As a Petroleum Engineer on the Customer Success Team, you will play a critical role in helping clients maximize the value of our production optimization software. You will act as a key technical advisor, leveraging your petroleum engineering expertise to support clients in managing their wells efficiently and effectively.

Your responsibilities will include ensuring data integrity and availability within the platform, identifying and resolving software issues, and proactively recommending improvements based on user feedback and operational insights. You will also provide hands-on training, troubleshooting, and technical guidance to users to help them optimize well performance and production workflows.

In this cross-functional role, you will collaborate closely with software developers, product managers, and other stakeholders translating complex oilfield operations and terminology into actionable insights to guide product development and enhance user experience.

What You Will Do:

  • Utilize your petroleum engineering experience to provide advice, training and technical support to clients on how to best manage their wells.

  • Ensure that production data is available and managed properly within the software to enable troubleshooting and optimization of production wells.

  • Be responsible for ensuring that our software is working as expected, self-identifying any bugs as well as suggesting any improvements.

  • Work within a multi-disciplinary team of software developers and will need to share your understanding of oilfield terminology and practices with the rest of the team.

  • Translate client needs and requests into easily digestible tickets for product and software team to improve user experience with the tool

  • Collect and document client feedback with internal stakeholders using Salesforce so that we can improve our offering and maintain strong client relationships

  • Onboard new clients and provide in-person/remote training sessions where required

  • QA/QC of client data and report issues with data quality

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in petroleum engineering

  • 3 years of ESP optimization and or application experience in the oil and gas industry

  • Comprehensive knowledge of oil and gas production operations

  • Familiarity with Nodal Analysis software packages like PROSPER, Snap or PipeSim is favorable

  • Strong customer skills including the ability to present to customers and effectively explain and train.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • High computer application literacy (including Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn internal software systems)

  • Must have a valid Driver's License and acceptable Motor Vehicle Record

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in Artificial Lift applications

  • Working knowledge of Well Construction, Completions and Production Fundamentals

Job Functions
  • Physically samples, measures, and takes the temperature of vessel's tanks and shore tanks utilizing a variety of methods dictated by company and American Petroleum Institute (API) procedures.
  • Follows Safely standards and performs job efficiently. Works within defined technical processes and procedures or methodologies.
  • Calculates and reports quantities of the bulk liquid or gaseous hydrocarbon transferred and performs full reconciliation.
  • Completes all required reports and forms, using the SGS propriety Ship Inspection Report (SIR) and / or Site Acceptance Test (SAT) systems.
  • Works in cooperation with client's representatives, US Customs, vessel personnel, government agents and shore facility personnel.
  • Maintains regular communication with the business unit office staff with reference to job status, problems, concerns, etc.
  • Maintains knowledge and adheres to the latest industry, client and SGS internal standards, policies and procedures.
  • Operates to the highest standards of ethics, in accordance with the SGS Code of Integrity including adhering to all company safety practices.
  • Assists in other branch duties as assigned related to back office support and housekeeping.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education and Experience
  • High School or equivalent (Required)
  • 6 months to 2 years of transferrable industry experience (Prefered)
  • Completion of internal Inspector Development Program Level (Preferred)
Licenses and Certifications
  • Valid Driver's License (Required)
  • Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) (Preferred)
  • Must maintain valid Driver's License and TWIC card once obtained through course of employment (Required)
  • International Federation of Inspection Agencies (IFIA) Certification (Preferred)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Mewbourne Oil Company believes in developing well rounded engineers by providing training in all disciplines of operations, including drilling, completion, production, and HSE. Our "boots on the ground" philosophy puts operations engineers as close to the wellsite as possible to streamline supervision and ensure efficient and responsible operations.

Possible Ares of Responsibility:
  • Drilling: design and supervise the drilling process, select the drilling techniques, equipment, and materials needed.
  • Completion: Design and wellsite supervision of perforating, hydraulic fracturing, acidizing, and drill-outs. Material sourcing and logistics related to each.
  • Production: monitor production rates and implement strategies to maximize extraction efficiency. This may involve artificial lift design, surface equipment design, chemical program design, evaluation of compression, emission control design, automation, troubleshooting problems such as equipment malfunctions or wellbore integrity issues. Design facilities for separation and measurement of oil, gas, and water. Coordinate pipeline connections to midstream providers.
Possible Additional Duties:
  • Troubleshoot problems related to each discipline.
  • Analyze data and performance metrics to drive future efficiency gains.
  • Write procedures and AFEs for projects. Manage project budgets and expenses by estimating costs for equipment, materials, and labor. Identify cost-saving opportunities and strive to optimize project economics.
  • Stay up to date on industry advancements and research new technologies to improve extraction techniques, increase production rates, and reduce environmental impact.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including geologists, landmen, drilling crews, and environmental scientists, to achieve project objectives collaboratively.
  • Maintain detailed records of operations, including drilling logs, production data, and environmental monitoring reports, and prepare technical reports and presentations for management and regulatory agencies.
