**Job Description:**
The Pharmacy Inventory Control Technician is accountable for meeting all purchasing, receiving, inventory, and returning requirements for drugs and medical or surgical supplies in select hospital, specialty, community, Homecare or SCC pharmacies. This position manages activities related to the pharmacy inventory procurement caregiver processes. The incumbent works with Supply Chain pharmacy buyers to ensure optimal levels of pharmaceuticals and supplies are available at the best appropriate cost. The incumbent communicates and coordinates information relating to drug shortages and other supply challenges to the medication policy and outcomes team and appropriate key stakeholders. This position coordinates and manages procurement and inventory processes in a pharmacy department. Due to the magnitude and complexity of inventory, this role is limited in select Acute Care Hospital pharmacies, Homecare, Specialty, Investigational Drug Studies (IDS) Service, Oncology Services or Supply Chain Center (Central Fill or SCC Acute Care) locations. Location eligibility will be approved by System Pharmacy Operations Director and Chief Pharmacy Officer.
**This position will work** **Monday - Friday (0730 - 1600 or 0800 - 1630), 1-2 Weekends/year for Inventory.**
**Essential Functions**
+ Effectively and efficiently manages pharmacy inventory by overseeing ordering and procurement, distribution, returns, and payment. Works collaboratively with other Intermountain facilities as needed to ensure safety and care of patients is prioritized.
+ Functions as an expert and resource for inventory and purchasing systems, automated storage and dispensing devices, and any other software or hardware as assigned.
+ Monitor and manage pharmaceutical and supply shortages and acquire pharmaceuticals and supplies from appropriate alternative sources in accordance with laws and regulations.
+ Effectively communicate shortages and other market changes to key stakeholders.
+ Responsible for controlled substance management and documentation, including any and all assigned audit and quality assurance processes. Ensures all DEA required documentation is complete and organized to facilitate immediate access to information.
+ Coordinate annual physical inventory as required by the health system and laws and regulations and ensure that pharmaceuticals and supplies are stored in a secure, organized manner under the appropriate storage conditions to maintain their quality/integrity and minimize retrieval errors.
+ Develops, educates, and mentors all pharmacy staff regarding their responsibilities in maintaining an appropriate, organized, safe, and efficient supply chain. · Works with clinical staff to develop an effective response to drug shortage situations and recalls. Works collaboratively with pharmacy leadership to communicate with all appropriate medical, clinical, and business stakeholders.
+ Participates in quality improvement activities and seeks a team approach to developing and achieving best practices and processes in supply management.
+ Works with system supply chain in maximizing impact of system initiatives (e.g., cost avoidance, supply chain disruption, new products, formulary changes).
+ Possess knowledge of 340b pharmaceutical purchasing program and support of 340b compliance (if applicable to care site).
+ Maintain, replace and charge inventory supplied to other departments and clinics. Effectively work with outside agencies/facilities to coordinate borrowing and purchasing of pharmaceuticals in emergency situations in compliance with policy and regulations.

**Qualifications**
+ High school diploma or equivalent.
+ Current pharmacy technician certification or license applicable to state of practice. - and

+ Current knowledge of state and federal regulations and statutes regarding the practice of pharmacy and the distribution of approved drugs, controlled substances, and investigational agents (where applicable). - and -

+ The Inventory Control Specialist is a Pharmacy Technician III who is responsible for properly maintaining an average monthly Pharmacy inventory on hand of almost $5 million dollars. **Responsibilities:**
+ Responsible for ensuring our Storeroom operations are successful by performing all inventory functions to ensure accuracy, efficiency, compliance standards, and minimal damage. This person will manage the physical inventory in the Lower and Main Storeroom, resolving and proactively addressing any issues that may occur and answering any questions about inventory that may arise.
+ Works with hospital staff to ensure medications are stored properly and are within expiration date. Completes check for expired meds daily for assigned bin locations. Stores inventory in proper locations to ensure compliance. Maintains inventory in storeroom is adequately controlled and all transactions are properly documented. Maximizes inventory system functionality to ensure the purchasing and inventory control processes are efficient and accurate. Ensure that inventory automation systems are being used properly, to include monthly reconciliations. Review bi-monthly cycle counts performed by Storeroom staff.
+ Maintains inventory records appropriately, including documentation of all receipts, issues and transfers.
+ Assists purchasing staff in handling notification of FDA recalls: retrieval of medication from inventory, patient care areas, Inpatient and Outpatient Pharmacy: returns to vendor.
+ Ensures inventory in storeroom is adequately controlled and all transactions are properly documented.
+ Completes check for expired meds daily for assigned bin locations.
+ Possess and exhibits practical, technical and academic knowledge sufficient to successfully manage all receiving activities. Completes annual safety training.

**Job Summary**
Works with system pharmacy resources to support the proper management of inventory, purchasing and to ensure compliance within contracting/rebates, clinic pharmacy licensure and retail operations. + Assists pharmacy leadership in reporting diversion to the DEA, Pharmacy Commission, and the DEA Registrant. Works with medical group and hospital leaders to assure controlled substance discrepancies are resolved in a timely manner. Audits controlled substance purchasing monthly to assure that what was ordered was received and what was received was processed properly.
+ Works with various regulatory entities (i.e., State Pharmacy Quality Assurance Commission, DEA, DSHS, State Department of Health, ASHP, etc.) to gather information as requested for audits. Primary responsibility for completing yearly Pharmacy Commission self-inspection working with pharmacy leaders.
+ Supports multiple applications, including 340B monthly audits and diversion detection and prevention audits. This will include a prescribed number of random caregiver-controlled substance audits each week.
+ Identifies compliance issues, recommend and assist in implementing corrective action plans to improve performance outcomes and audit findings.
+ Oversees licensure and management of Health Care Entity (HCE) clinic sites. This will include management of Power of Attorney forms for clinics and other areas that store and/or order controlled substances and keep them updated including when new caregivers start and old caregivers leave.
+ Oversees refrigerator/freezer temp monitoring. This will include the yearly calibrations necessary and assure compliance certificates are available for inspections.
+ Oversees pharmacist and technician competency compliance and assure documentation is in place for inspections.
+ Performs lead pharmacy technician duties when necessary. This will include continual training of technician staff and follow up when necessary. Fill in various pharmacy technician roles occasionally in order to maintain knowledge base of the technician position or in the event of a severe staff shortage.

**SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**
**Education:** High school graduate or GED equivalent. Minimum of one year education in related field, such as general business, computers, or inventory/operations management

**Job Summary and Qualifications**
The Pharmacy Buyer is responsible for managing the pharmaceutical inventory in the assigned hospital including purchasing of pharmaceuticals and related products, oversight of receipt and placing these items in stock, optimization of pharmacy inventory both in the facility pharmacy and automated cabinets. This position ensures that all pharmaceutical products are appropriately labeled with barcodes including repackaging of products for patient administration. The buyer works with the director and clinical team to ensure formulary compliance and maintains contract compliance. The Buyer assist the automation coordinator or individual in similar role with respect to Automated Dispensing Cabinet (ADU) inventory management including the maintenance of controlled substance inventory and handling the request for an addition of new items to the pharmacy inventory. The Pharmacy Buyer also assists in training personnel on inventory handling and overseeing workflow in the pharmacy when the tech supervisor or pharmacy manager is unavailable.
+ Under the supervision of Director of Pharmacy, participates in all activities of the pharmacy department that involve the inventory management of drugs, medication storage areas and department related supplies.
+ Functions in accordance with standard written policy & procedures, guidelines, and state and federal regulations

+ Establishes, maintains, and monitors of the ADC medication expiration process
+ Supervises and facilitates facility process to optimize inventory management in the automated dispensing cabinets quarterly
+ Assists with design, testing, implementation, maintenance and optimization of automated pharmacy systems at facilities
+ Participates in new employee training regarding purchasing and automation systems including conducting initial and ongoing training as well as validation of staff competency with pharmacy automation systems
+ Collects system and/or related process or facility performance metrics and generates periodic management reports
+ Uses existing tools to analyze and improve ADC cabinet efficiency with respect to utilization and availability of stocked medications
