JOB SUMMARY:
To obtain appropriate, properly labeled, and process specimens from inpatients and outpatients at Ashe Memorial Hospital and other out-reach facilities, to assist in the handling of those specimens to ensure proper delivery to the testing site, and to assist in the clerical and telephone duties in the laboratory. Performs all work with accordance to the mission, visions, and values of Ashe Memorial Hospital (AMH).
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Regulatory Requirements:
- CPR certification preferred.
- Phlebotomy Certification by an Accredited Agency within 12 months of employment preferred.
- High school diploma.
- Attended a Medical Office Assistance Program and/or a Phlebotomy certification program, and/or some training in Emergency Medicine, and/or experience in Patient Care.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Give concise and easily understood instructions to patients when collecting specimens.
- Verbally introduce themselves and their position to the patient before performing any procedure on a patient.
- Collect specimens in the appropriate container, properly labeled, and stored according to laboratory policy.
- Perform heel-sticks on neonates according to accepted procedures and policies.
- Perform finger-stick procedures on pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients according to laboratory policies and procedures.
- Perform venipuncture on pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients according to laboratory policies and procedures.
- Assess each patients requirements relative to the patients age and specific needs and provide the care needed for obtaining specimen.
- Enter requests and print labels with the Hospital Meditech computer system.
- Ensure that all test requests have a diagnosis and meet Medicare medical necessity guidelines or inform the patient and obtain an Advance Beneficiary Notice signed by the patient.
- Fax reports as requested promptly and accurately.
- Enter requests and print manifest logs from the Reference lab computer.
- Collect industrial drug screens following NIDA protocol.
- Answer the telephone courteously and relay messages promptly.
- Answer the door courteously and with a smile, assisting the patient in a manner that puts the patient first.
- Notify technologists of all ASAP and STAT orders.
- Comply with hospital-wide and laboratory specific policies on Infection Control and Safety.
- Attend as many non-mandatory in-services as possible.
- Ensure the security of the departmental information at the end of each workday to protect confidential information.
- Review laboratory policy and procedure manuals for revisions and updates.
- Communicate effectively with others and maintains good rapport with others for the achieving department goals.
- Maintain phlebotomy charts and area in a sanitary and properly supplied condition at all times.
- Uses between patients to departmental advantage by filling in with office work, assisting technical staff, performing general household duties, putting away supplies, or performing other duties as necessary.
Must be willing to receive all required vaccinations (i.e., flu shot, etc.). All new employees working must be fully vaccinated as a condition of employment (unless the new hire has requested and received an exemption). About the role:
Every day, the donors you meet will motivate you. The high-quality plasma you collect will become life-changing medicines. Here, a commitment to customer service and quality is expected. You will report to the Plasma Center Manager and will perform as a plasma donor screener and perform phlebotomy to support plasma center operations.
How you will contribute:
· You will answer phones, and greet and focus on our donors, while ensuring the safety of donors and our team.
· You will screen new and repeat donors and take and record donor vital signs and finger stick results.
· You will use our Donor Information System, prepare donor charts, maintain accurate records, and coordinate donor compensation.
· You will help identify operational opportunities for continuous improvement and initiate changes to center processes using company approved procedures.
· You will be there for our donors, which includes working a variety of shifts, Saturdays and Sundays, and holidays.
What you bring to Takeda:
· High school diploma or equivalent
· Ability to walk and/or stand for the entire work shift
· Will work evenings, weekends, and holidays
· Ability to lean, bend, stoop, crouch, and reach above shoulders and below knees
· Ability to lift to 5 lbs., and occasional lifting of materials up to 32 lbs. and rarely 50 lbs.
· Fine motor coordination, depth perception, and ability to hear equipment from a distance
· Because of potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens (risk level 1), 90% of work tasks require prolonged glove wear
· 1 or more years minimum experience working in a customer or patient facing role is helpful

**U.S. Starting Hourly Wage:**
$16.00
The starting hourly wage reflects the actual starting rate for this position. The actual hourly wage offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.
U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term incentives. U.S. based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others.
