Responsibilities

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (Minimum Qualifications):

* High school diploma or equivalent required

* A current, valid driver's license with Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and good driving record is required. Experience driving large vehicles strongly preferred.

As anApheresis Technicianat the Blood Donor Clinic, you will work directly with our donors to collect blood, plasma, or platelets for our D-H patients. This role requires formal phlebotomy training, and we provide comprehensive training in the entire donation process, from donor check-in and draws to processing the different blood products for the blood bank. Our strong relationships with our donors and patients, many of whom return regularly, foster greater confidence in our program.
The Blood Donor Program team members have shared some favorable experiences working at D-H. They recognize their essential role as a resource for our community – how the blood they collect will stay at D-H for the benefit of our patients. They say how fantastic it is to be ‘able to build great relationships with our donors - makes it enjoyable to the donors and brings them back’ for future donations. We have full-time, day-shift positions available on this fantastic team. Responsibilities
* Provides appropriate donor greeting and directs donor to read educational materials.
* Performs donor interview, obtaining accurate and complete medical history information.
* Determines donor suitability utilizing donor guideline manual and department reference materials.
* Performs whole blood phlebotomy and automated apheresis donations.
* Labels sample tubes and collection packs. Completes all records. Performs post-collection handling of products per FDA guidelines.
* Prepares components from centrifugation, separation, mixing, labeling, and with accurate verification of records and data entry into computer system.
* Using Current Good Manufacturing Practices, records the results of all procedures performed.

+ Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) rates range from $1.48/hr to 31.19/hr.
+ Sr. MLT rates range from 22.82/hr to 33.09/hr.
+ Lead MLT rates range from 25.00 to 35.51/hr.
+ Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) rates range from 26.97/hr to 35.51/hr.
+ Sr. MLS rates range from 28.86/hr to 40.43/hr.
+ Lead MLS rates range from 29.71 to 43.73/hr.
In this role, there is opportunity to -
+ Perform qualitative and quantitative laboratory tests with accuracy and efficiency, adhering to established protocols and timelines.
+ Recognize and appropriately respond to critical, abnormal, or unacceptable results by following defined protocols and initiating corrective actions.
+ Operate and maintain laboratory instruments by conducting quality control, calibration, and minor repairs according to written procedures.
+ Ensure compliance with laboratory and hospital policies, including quality assurance, safety, and regulatory guidelines.
+ Collect and process specimens correctly, ensuring sample integrity and appropriateness for testing.
+ Interact professionally with patients, clinicians, and coworkers, addressing inquiries and communicating results courteously and effectively.
+ Train and orient new staff, students, or residents on laboratory procedures, equipment, and safety practices as assigned.
+ Participate in test development, equipment evaluation, and implementation of new methodologies to support continuous improvement.

Medical Laboratory Scientist:
+ Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university AND successful completion of an accredited Medical Lab Scientist program OR
+ Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, or clinical laboratory science AND ASCP or equivalent categorical or MLT certification OR
+ Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science AND at least two years' experience in a role equivalent to that of a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) in a clinical laboratory.
Medical Lab Technician:
+ Associate's degree in a laboratory science with certification (or eligible new graduate) from an accredited institution as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) OR
+ Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited institution with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science, with 6 months of clinical laboratory experience OR
+ Equivalent education and experience as defined by CLIA '88 for individuals performing high complexity testing
**Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:**
Medical Laboratory Technician MLT(ASCP) or Clinical Laboratory Assistant (CLA) certification preferred. New York license required for NY locations.

**Responsibilities:**
+ Interact with all laboratory customers courteously and professionally; respond to telephone inquiries in a timely manner. Practices pleasant communications both internally and externally.
+ Adhere to established laboratory and hospital policies in areas of procedures, methods, quality control, quality assurance, safety, compliance, and personnel policies. Follow established procedures for the collection (including phlebotomy, as required) and processing of specimens for analysis including the appropriateness and stability of the sample. Perform qualitative and quantitative analytical procedures according to established protocols with precision and accuracy in a timely and efficient manner.
+ Recognize critical, abnormal, and unacceptable test results and follow-up according to established protocols. Recognize factors that affect measurements and results and initiate the necessary corrective action according to established protocols. Identify problems with instrumentation, methodology, specimens, supplies, or results and act as outlined in predetermined protocols.
+ Operate and maintain equipment within the scope of training utilizing defined schedules and written instructions to perform quality control checks, preventive maintenance, and calibration. Perform minor repairs. Use reagents and supplies cost-effectively; monitor and maintain an appropriate supply inventory.
+ Maintain in-depth knowledge of techniques, principles, and instruments, their interrelationships and physiological conditions affecting test results.
+ Conduct, direct, or assist with test development and methodology/equipment evaluation, selection, and implementation.
+ Performs High Complexity Testing (as defined by PA DOH) without direct supervision.
+ Assume responsibility for first-line supervision of the section/department temporarily as delegated.
+ Train and orient new employees, students, and residents, as applicable and as assigned.

Medical Laboratory Scientist:
+ Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university AND successful completion of a CAHEA accredited Medical Technology program,
+ OR Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, physical or clinical laboratory science AND ASCP categorical certification,
+ OR Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science AND at least two years' experience in a role equivalent to that of a Medical Laboratory technician (MLT) in a clinical laboratory
+ Prefer 1 year experience in a hospital laboratory.
+ Knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory information systems preferred.
+ Completion of an MLS program highly preferred.
+ Phlebotomy experience preferred.
Medical Lab Technician:
+ Associate degree in laboratory science with certification (or eligible new graduate) from an accredited institution as either a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or as a Clinical Laboratory Assistant (CLA),
