This JSC position offers an exciting and challenging opportunity with SAIC to support NASA's human spaceflight programs. You will inspect and witness testing of the ground-based pressure vessels and pressurized systems and provide technical support and consultation as needed.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform system and pressure vessel inspections for certification.
  • Perform boiler inspections.
  • Perform visual weld inspections as required.
  • Witness relief valve set tests.
  • Witness hydrostatic and pneumatic pressure tests.
  • Review and approve/disapprove written procedures and associated documentation.
  • Review and approve/disapprove vendor test reports for component certification.
  • Provide technical support and inspection consultation as needed.
  • Present training classes to JSC personnel.

Qualifications

Qualifications for candidates:
  • Associate's degree and 6 years of experience or High School Diploma and 8 years of experience.
  • Possess a commission (may be currently inactive) from the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors (NB).
  • Five years of experience as a commissioned NB inspector.
  • Experience in application of ASME, API 510/570, ANSI, and DOT codes and standards.
  • Five Years of experience as an American Welding Society Certified Welding Inspector.
  • Must be able to obtain a public trust clearance.

The designer will report to the modeling supervisor and be responsible for interacting with the fabrication supervisor, detailers, project managers, project engineers, and field foreman.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Utilize McKenney’s CAD standards to create mechanical piping models that are consistent with company and project requirements.

• Accurately model Mechanical Piping systems in compliance with project plans, project specifications, and code requirements for the purposes of producing fabrication documents (spool sheets and drawings) from the model.

• Coordinate all Mechanical Piping systems with: ductwork, mechanical equipment, other trades, and architectural and structural elements of the building.

• Coordinate all Mechanical Piping to provide safe and adequate access in accordance with manufacturer and code clearances to avoid installation conflicts in the field.

• Utilize the fabrication team to provide annotated, dimensioned shop drawings, spool assemblies, and spool drawings.

• Review and distribute fabrication information including assembly sheets and spool drawings to project managers and field leaders.

• Effectively and proactively communicate with project managers, project engineers, and field foremen during the drafting and construction process. This includes communication of challenges and schedule progress on a timely basis (weekly at a minimum).

• Use Company tools to manage requests for information and shop drawing progress.

• Proactively identify and communicate areas of deficiency/gaps along with proposed solutions on projects to support timely completion of work.

• Work with project manager and field foreman to create As-Built condition drawings for projects.

• Produce all documents on time and within budget (estimated drafting hours) in a timely manner based on job requirements to meet commitments to our customers, both internal and external.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or GED

• Minimum of 3 years working in the Mechanical Piping trade or 3 years of Mechanical Piping design experience using AutoCAD 2014 or higher and 3-D drafting packages

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience with Mechanical Piping drafting using Autodesk Fabrication CADmep software.

• Ability to layout and size mechanical piping and similar activities.

• 2-year associate degree in drafting or a similar area.

• Ability to visualize three-dimensional layouts from two-dimensional drawings.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND CHARACTERISTICS

• Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural construction documents.

• Must be a self-starter, with ability to work well as part of a team and independently.

Roles and responsibilities
Piping
  • Experience in Piping materials in line with applications
  • Good in valves & fittings based on application & requirements
  • Provide technical directions and inputs to drafting personnel.
  • Review of engineering documents like calculations, specifications, philosophies, datasheets and drawings to ensure compliance with specification and functional integrity.
  • Carry-out single discipline checking of discipline documents / deliverables for the project.
  • Carry-out IDC for other discipline document / deliverables as per the approved IDC matrix.

  • Good in Technical bid evaluation of Static equipment in Oil & Gas industries application

Work Experience
Desired Skills:
  • Familiarize with the codes and standards (Mechanical & Piping)
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD Plant 3D is an added advantage.

Job Summary: Client is currently seeking a Fulltime Mechanical (Pipe Stress/Pipe Support) Engineer to join our team in either our Mt. Laurel, NJ or Charlotte, NC office. The successful candidate will be working as part of a team of engineers and designers performing pipe stress analysis and pipe support design for piping systems serving the nuclear and conventional generation industry.

Requirements:
  • 5 years' experience in pipe stress analysis and pipe support design
  • PE license is an asset.

  • Exercise sound engineering judgment in assessing problem situations or complex issues, review completed work to ensure accuracy and compliance with codes and design criteria.
  • Interface with project stakeholders to determine project scope/requirements.
