This Johnson Space Center position offers an exciting and challenging opportunity with SAIC to support NASA's human spaceflight programs. You will inspect and witness testing of the ground-based pressure vessels and pressurized systems and provide technical support and consultation as needed.
**Responsibilities:**
+ Perform system and pressure vessel inspections for certification.
+ Witness relief valve set tests.
+ Witness hydrostatic and pneumatic pressure tests.
+ Review and approve/disapprove written procedures and associated documentation.
+ Review and approve/disapprove vendor test reports for component certification.

**Qualifications**

This includes work on gas turbines, renewables, battery energy storage systems (BESS), substations, and transmission systems. You will be responsible for executing complete mechanical designs, applying advanced engineering techniques, and collaborating across disciplines to deliver high-quality, constructible solutions.
What You'll Do
- Develop piping designs including P&IDs, General Arrangements (GAs), equipment layouts, and inline instrumentation.
- Prepare Material Take-Offs (MTOs) and support procurement activities.

Will work as part of a team on a variety of projects including mining & minerals, water treatment and heavy industry

Use 3D computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) software and work closely with engineers to resolve design details or discrepancies, and to prepare drawings which require a high degree of precision on projects of moderate complexity and/or scope

HGA is seeking an experienced Mechanical/Piping Designer to support a Specialty Chemical manufacturing client in the Donaldsonville, LA area. This 6-month contract role focuses on a Piping & Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) validation and redlining project , requiring both field and office work. The Designer will walk down systems in the plant, redline P&IDs, and convert findings into updated digital drawings using specialized design software.
Key Responsibilities
- Validate and redline P&IDs in the field
- Interpret engineering concepts and create detailed construction drawings
- Perform design calculations and ensure technical accuracy and constructability
- Collaborate across disciplines and review vendor/shop drawings
- Develop layouts and estimates based on project scope
- Utilize design tools such as AutoCAD 3D, SmartPlant, and Blue Beam
- Technical training in Drafting & Design (Associate degree in Piping or E&I Design preferred)
- 10+ years of design experience in oil & gas, chemical, or refinery industries
- Proficiency in AutoCAD 3D, Laser Scan Point Clouds, MS Office Suite
- Experience with SmartPlant and Blue Beam strongly preferred
- Must be able to commute daily to the Donaldsonville, LA area
- Strong fieldwork capability, including walking plant sites and climbing ladders
- Adaptable to hot and cold outdoor environments
- Self-starter with excellent communication, leadership, and time management skills
- Ability to handle shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment

Job Summary:
As a 3D Piping Designer you will work to grow and lead On-Board's 3D CAD technical capabilities. You will be expected to modify and create PFD's & P&IDs for capital projects in chemical and petrochemical facilities. You should have expertise in developing 3D drawings, piping scopes of work as well as providing the necessary finished product (CAD Drawing Documentation).
Required Qualifications:
- 3+ years of 3D Piping Design Experience
- (Additional experience with other 3D software such as PDS, PDMS, AUTOPLANT, SMART 3D, are a plus)
- Experience with industrial piping & processes
- Experience with P&I Diagrams and pipe isometrics
- Field checking walk down experience (Plus)
