This salaried non-exempt position will report directly to the Operations Supervisor and is responsible for the daily operation of the plant, including but not limited to operations, maintenance, production, inventory control, safety, environmental compliance, and supervision of plant employees.

* Must have (or must be able to obtain as soon as possible) ACI Level I Field Testing Technician and FDOT Concrete Batch Plant Operator Certifications within 90 days of hire.

What You'll Do:
Promote Safety. Take an active role prioritizing safety for yourself and others to ensure all assigned plants have zero accidents and are in total compliance with all Vulcan policies and procedures.
Organize and Plan Production. Plan the daily operation scheduling of plant production to ensure optimal utilization of plant and equipment, personnel and inventory requirements, and work procedures in regards to stripping, mining, processing, stockpiling, loading and shipping. Responsible for all aspects of site planning and pit development.
Manage Employee Relations. Provide strong leadership, training, team building and supervision to all employees at the plant in order to support the operational function of the business. Work cross-functionally with HR to recruit new employees, provide merit increases, perform disciplinary actions, and evaluate the performance of employees in order to develop talent.
Monitor Processes and Materials. Analyze production and quality control to ensure a quality product is received by our customers. Monitor operational reports to ensure best practices in extraction, processing, stockpiling, and re-handling to ensure product remains within target specifications. Implement and monitor a preventive maintenance program to limit work stoppages, downtime, or other disruptions.
Maintain Compliance. Build a strong safety culture to ensure the plant is in compliance with Vulcan's safety, operations, and environmental policies and procedures. Manage the health and safety of employees to continuously improve the Vulcan's health & safety performance.
Inspect Equipment and Perform Repairs. Assist and organize the work of employees in the daily inspection and maintenance of the plant to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant operations to maximize production and minimize interruptions.
Skills You'll Need:
Experience. Previous experience in supervising production employees preferably at either an aggregate, sand/gravel or asphalt plant preferred.
Leadership and Management Skills. Must be able to provide strong leadership and mentorship to employees, both direct and indirect reports, to motivate and maintain interpersonal relationships.
Operational Knowledge. Must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of rock and sand mining, ready-mix concrete, and/or asphalt operations and equipment, MSHA regulations, engineering principles and procedures, and quality control systems and processes.
Interpersonal Skills. Must be an excellent motivator and team builder. Must be able to form strong social relationships and effectively communicate with both internal and external audiences.
Financial Knowledge. Must possess knowledge and experience leading financial performance to established targets, meeting or exceeding performance goals.
Working Conditions. Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions and tolerate being exposed loud noises.

Job Summary
Responsible for total plant operations including safety and supervision of personnel; care, maintenance and use of all properties, buildings, machinery and equipment, utilities and supplies, personnel and equipment that belongs to others while on company properties.
Safety/Environmental
* Administer safety program developed in writing by Safety Officer.
* Analyze hazard, correct same, train personnel in safe procedures and formulate and enforce safety procedures.
* Ensure that equipment is operating with all safety equipment in place and operable.
* Ensure that the facility is operating within complete compliance of all environmental regulations relative to maintenance procedures.
Quality
* Manage all operational methods, procedures and indicators/metrics and identify necessary improvements for production and quality of materials.
* Identifies and captures opportunities for improvement in operational and maintenance procedures.
* Uses CPI methodology to optimize work processes, adapt maintenance tools and procedures to improve equipment utilization and reliability, and minimize service quality incidents.

and consistent with good operating practice.

* Take corrective action and discharge action as necessary. Consult with HR, Plants, & Regional Manager in cases which are unusual in view of employee morale, community relations.
* Maintain effective employee morale. Handle grievances at the plant level, reporting cases which remain unsolved and continue to the HR & Plants Manager.
Functional And Technical Cont.
* Assume responsibility for training a qualified lead person to fill in or replace Quarry Superintendent whenever necessary.
* Maintain properties in good condition and appearance. Carry out approved plans for plant rehabilitation
and beautification.
* Assume responsibility for security and maintenance of buildings, structures, machinery, equipment, tools and supplies in your care.
* Consult directly with Plants Manager regarding required maintenance items and replacements. All equired items are to be requisitioned through the Plants Manager.
* Submit recommendations each year to the Plants Manager covering capital improvements, additions and replacements of plants and fleet equipment.
* Direct use of standard accounting procedures in JDE and other forms to ensure the routine reporting of data relating to production, sales, inventories, costs, etc. as required.
* Deal with customers in a courteous, friendly and honest manner. Make every effort to follow this policy and to influence the employees working under his direction to do likewise. The promotion of good customer relations is vital to the success of Barrett's business.
* Assist Plants Manager in developing operating and maintenance budgets.
* Offer assistance and be available when needed to help resolve problems in all phases of the operation.
