The group is led by Juliet Gopinath, a Professor in the Electrical, Computer and Energy Engineering Department and the Physics Department at the University of Colorado Boulder. She holds the Alfred T. and Betty E. Look Endowed Professorship.
Specific interests include ultrafast and high power cw and pulsed lasers, beam combining, mid-infrared sources and materials, spectroscopy of semiconductors, membranes, and other new materials, rare-earth doped media, micro- and optofluidics, and orbital angular momentum of light. Current research projects include adaptive optics, mid-infrared lasers and materials, the generation and detection of orbital angular momentum of light, spectroscopy of materials, LIDAR systems, and pulsed and cw sources in spectral regions where lasers suffer from fundamental physical constraints. Applications of the technology include sensors, communications, lidar, medical imaging and surgery, water purification, and environmental monitoring. The research is interdisciplinary, spanning several core areas of optics and photonics, solid-state devices and nanotechnology.

**Research Associate / Senior Research Associate (Upstream) - Louisville, CO**
**Kelly® Science & Clinical is seeking a** **Research Associate / Senior Research Associate** to support Lentiviral Vector (LVV) process development and scale-up in upstream department. This role will primarily support routine, high-throughput LVV production, with a focus on lab operations including cell passaging and bioreactor setup.
Type: Contract (6-9 month, potential for extension)
Shift: M-F, 1 st shift
Pay Range: $32-$45/hr
**Responsibilities:**
+ Support routine laboratory work including cell passaging, lab maintenance, sample creation and labeling, in-process sample analysis, inventory organization, waste removal, and data collection and review.
+ Ensure proper labeling, handling, storage, and disposal of all chemicals and solutions during cell passages.
+ Assist with high-throughput, routine, lab and pilot-scale vector production to support process development and cross-functional material needs.
+ Support experimental design, execution, and analysis to develop LVV processes.
+ Cross-train across the broader PS team to support downstream operations (AKTA/TFF and drug product operations).
+ Contribute to equipment troubleshooting and optimization of lab processes including AMBRs, Biostats, BDCUs, and centrifuges.
+ Maintain accurate electronic notebook records in accordance with company guidelines.
+ Communicate data effectively in cross-functional meetings.
+ Flexibility to work some overtime to accommodate process and project needs.
**Qualifications:**
+ B.S. in Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline with 1-3 years of relevant experience; OR an Associate degree in Life Sciences or similar with 2 years of experience. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will also be considered.
+ Experience operating general lab equipment, including cell counters, balances, pumps, pH/conductivity meters, pipettes, etc.
+ Excellent communication skills with a proven ability to build collaborative relationships and work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
+ Self-motivated with strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Experience with process equipment such as Bioreactors, AKTA, tangential and normal flow filtration systems, and mixing systems.
+ Experience with single-use bioreactors and centrifuge setup.
+ Experience maintaining rolling cell passages.
+ Experience with buffer/solution preparation.
