Job Overview
The University of Pennsylvania's Graduate School of Education invites applications for a two-year Postdoctoral Fellow within the Education Policy Division of the University of Pennsylvania's. The start date for the position is planned for Summer 2024, with some flexibility. The successful candidate will work closely with Professor Sade Bonilla on research initiatives studying teacher labor markets and leadership. This opportunity involves collaborative engagement with the School District of Philadelphia (SDP). Furthermore, the postdoctoral fellow will be positioned to lend their quasi-experimental expertise to the evaluation of other SDP initiatives. Key Functions and Expected Performances:
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with Professor Sade Bonilla to advance a robust scholarly agenda. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:
· Collaboration with Professor Bonilla and fellow members of the research and project team to document administrative data with attention to detail.
· Conduct rigorous quasi-experimental data analysis following standards of practice.
· Offer guidance and mentorship to undergraduate and graduate student research assistants.
· Craft reports to funders documenting project progress and outcomes.
· Engage in manuscript writing to disseminate research findings in academic journals.
· Communicate effectively with research partners to ensure productive collaboration; and deliver presentations to research partners, practitioners, and audiences at research conferences.

As a Postdoctoral Fellow, you will be part of the Cellular Mediated Immunity (CMI) & Immune Profiling group within the Viral Vaccines team. You will collaborate with multi-disciplinary and talented scientists towards development of assays to predict immune response durability prior to human clinical trials and investigate the mechanisms of early vaccine-elicited signals related to antibody longevity. Your goals will be:
+ Establish in vivo systems using mice and/or non-human primates (NHPs) as models to test different vaccine platforms and candidates to investigate biomarkers of antibody durability.
+ Analyze transcriptomic data to establish correlations between gene expression signatures and immunological readouts.
+ Test mechanistic hypothesis in in vitro experiments and/or murine interventions to further define the mechanisms of plasma cell and plasmablast longevity.
Your strong foundation in immunology, molecular biology and immune profiling techniques including bulk and single cell RNA sequencing, as well as in vitro cell culture techniques, and related principles and concepts will enable you to assess the assigned tasks and design approaches that involve direct application of your knowledge.

**Must-Have**
+ Ph.D. in Immunology, Virology, Molecular Biology, Computational Immunology or related fields. No more than 2 years of post-degree experience.
+ Demonstrated experience in diverse cellular, biochemical and molecular laboratory techniques with strong background in immunology.
+ Experience using flow cytometry techniques as well as flow cytometry analysis software such as FlowJo and/or OMIQ, as well as GraphPad, Excel analysis software.
+ Knowledge and hands-on experience in sequencing techniques including RNA isolation, library preparation and RNA sequencing.
+ Experience in analyzing "omics" data (genomics, transcriptomics, single cell RNAseq, etc.) for biomedical research.
+ Well organized, self-motivated, team-oriented with ability to multitask with high attention to detail.
+ Strong collaborative spirit and communication skills.
+ Successful record of scientific accomplishments as indicated by scientific publications and/or presentations. At least one first-author publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Division Chief and Principal Investigator, Dr. Jay Vadgama, two (2) Postdoctoral Fellowship positions for Underrepresented Minorities (URM) are available immediately in the Division of Cancer Research and Training at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science (CDU). We are recruiting fellows to conduct oncology research that integrates clinical, basic, and community-based research. The outcome of these efforts will result in the development of translational cancer research at CDU.

This Research Fellowship is a two-year appointment supported by CDU’s American Cancer Society – Diversity in Cancer Research Institutional Development Grant. The selected candidates will join the Division of Cancer Research and Training under PI, Dr. Vadgama. The two-year ACS fellowship will cover the annual salary based on NIH (National Institutes of Health) salary scale and provides funds for laboratory supplies for the research project. There are funds to cover one trip per year to attend national meetings, resources for completing postdoctoral training, and mentorship.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Design and plan research in collaboration with the Principal Investigator.
• Participates in conducting research studies – including performing laboratory assays such as immunohistochemistry, MTT assay, RNA extractions, real-time PCR, western blots, biochemical determinations, plasmid preparation and analysis, cell transfections and next-generation sequencing library preparation for various omics approaches.
• Provide technical leadership and co-mentorship to co-workers, collaborators, graduate students and undergraduate interns.
• Responsible for generating, analyzing, conducting statistical analyses, and presenting scientific data in progress reports, presentations, manuscripts, grant applications, and local/national conferences.
• Engage in collaborative studies, coordinate activities with other members of the lab; and/or collaborators/mentors in CDU or other institutions.
• Maintains related correspondence and regulatory paperwork.
• Career development activities including grant writing.
• Perform other related activities as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements:

EDUCATION:

• Applicants must hold a PhD in biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology or other related fields and have completed PhD degree studies within the last three (3) years. Previous experience in cancer biology and working with mouse models of breast cancer is highly recommended.

EXPERIENCE:

• Must be a highly motivated individual with a PhD in biomedical sciences, with an excellent track record of research and a strong intention to develop into an independent investigator. Publications in peer-reviewed journals required as a significant contributing author.Experience conducting quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis required.
• Experience in cancer biology or cell and molecular biology including strong molecular biology (cloning, DNA/RAN analysis, PCR etc.), cell biology (cell culture, cellular assays, microscopy), and biochemical and immunoassay (Western blotting, immunofluorescence assays, ELISA) skills is strongly preferred.

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITY/SKILLS :

• Ability to perform basic cell culture; growth, invasion, and MTT assays; IHC/IMF; PCR/Western, and other standard molecular and biochemical assays as needed.
• Ability to prepare buffers and reagents as requested according to protocols.
• Ability to follow and adjust protocols to successfully perform experiments.
• Willingness to learn new molecular/biochemical procedures.
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and use of PubMed. Knowledge of online public cancer-related dataset mining preferred.

Role Overview
The Drug Product Design and Development (DPDD) function within the Development Sciences organization is accountable for a broad range of deliverables across various stages of developing clinical and commercial formulations for novel drug molecules. During the drug product development process, DPDD scientists rely on state of the art in vitro and computational tools supported by expertise in biopharmaceutics, drug delivery, and physical pharmacy to achieve target product quality and performance. Biopharmaceutics scientists work collaboratively with other functions such as pharmaceutics, ADME, formulation and clinical teams within Development Sciences organization to support and guide the design of drug products. In this role, the postdoctoral fellow will be part of a dynamic, engaging, and multidisciplinary environment that includes pharmaceutical scientists, engineers, and chemists.
The postdoctoral fellow will have the opportunity to bridge existing gaps in the use of in vitro screening tools to enable rapid candidate selection or drug product development using knowledge of GI physiology, drug molecular attributes, and drug product excipients. The candidate will participate in the Biopharmaceutics cross-functional team to design, develop and implement novel high throughput screening platforms. Most existing tools for in vitro screening are either low throughput or are of limited ability to predict in vivo performance. The postdoc will apply their skills and expertise to develop tools to bridge this gap and solve our most cutting-edge drug delivery challenges.
