As our Power Plant Operator at St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood Colorado, you will help ensure a safe and comfortable environment for patients, staff, and visitors by being responsible for operating, maintaining, and repairing the equipment that provides power, heating, cooling, and ventilation to a hospital facility.
Every day you will operate power systems, provide routine maintenance and inspections, and conduct regular inspections. You will be expected to monitor and track energy usage, and follow safety protocols.
To be successful in this role, you must use your problem solving abilities to diagnose and fix mechanical failures, and your attention to detail to monitor complex systems and detect issues before they escalate. As a Power Plant Operator, you are essential to keeping the hospital operational 24/7.
+ Performs routine maintenance, lubrication, cleaning of boilers, chillers and all central plant equipment.
+ Maintains the mechanical equipment such as engines, compressors, generators, pumps and steam boilers during the respective shifts.
+ Read and interpret blueprints and schematics.

**Required Qualifications**
+ High School Diploma/G.E.D.
+ Knowledge of boilers, pumps, gauges, heating units and systems, hand tools, generators, ventilation equipment, plumbing fixtures and heating and cooling distribution systems.
+ Knowledge of regulations imposed by local, state or other hospital authorities.
+ Ability to troubleshoot systems as necessary.
+ Proficient with multiple Building Automation System functions.

**What you will do:**
+ Operates high temperature hot water system, maintaining proper output temperature relative to the outside temperature for the safety and comfort of patients, visitors and staff of the hospital.
+ Following specific instructions operates high temperature hot water system on gas or oil, maintains an hourly log and reports malfunctions or calls contract service company, when necessary.
+ Continually monitors smoke recorder when operating on oil and cleans smoke monitor lenses as necessary.
+ Maintains a chemical testing log on the hot water and steam generator and chilled water systems. Makes adjustments as necessary to keep treatment at proper levels and to keep equipment from corroding.
+ Monitors chiller operations making adjustments as necessary; performs and records hourly readings, making adjustments as necessary to maintain a comfort level in the hospital. Reports any malfunctions.
+ Monitors operation of cooling towers, observing for algae in summer or ice in winter. Backwashes cooling tower filters as necessary.
+ Monitors the energy management and climate control systems making adjustments as necessary.
**Minimum Qualifications** **:**
+ Power Plant Operators (grandfathered prior to September 2005): High school diploma or equivalent required.
+ Power Plant Operator Class 2 (hired after September 2005): High School diploma plus Class II Fireman's license required.
+ Knowledge of high temperature hot water systems and chiller operations preferred.
+ Requires the ability to read and write English.

Job Summary

This position is responsible for the safe, environmentally compliant, and efficient operation of the facility. The facility is a Combined Cycle Natural Gas Power Plant. This position will provide day to day maintenance, troubleshooting, inspection and repairs to the facility equipment. It is required to show initiative in his/her area of responsibility.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine and emergency mechanical maintenance and repair on plant equipment with minimum supervision, including weekends, holidays and alternative scheduled shift as needed.

  • Perform trouble-shooting activities on all plant mechanical equipment. Must be able to troubleshoot and diagnose problems in systems, read and interpret drawings, P&IDs, equipment specifications, and vendor service manuals.

  • Evaluate, diagnose, maintain and repairs mechanical equipment such as pumps, valves, compressors, fans, turbines, boilers, etc.

  • Proficient in pump and motor alignment.

  • Removes, replaces and/or repairs motors, fans and other rotating equipment.

  • Participate in major maintenance projects, including equipment overhauls and removal and replacement of major units and parts. Inspects and monitors work of third-party contractors during major equipment repair or installation.

  • Disassemble, repair and reassemble valves, conveyors, compressors, blowers and heat exchangers

  • Perform simple torch cutting and welding tasks

  • Perform rigging and crane/hoist operations

  • Proficient in use of machine shop equipment such lathe and milling machine to cut and finish surfaces to specified tolerances

  • Comply with safety and environmental regulations established by regulatory agencies, Company policies and procedures and supervision

Requirements:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.

  • Trade school or trade school program in Mechanical Maintenance.

  • Additional professional training is preferred.

  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office such as Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point.

  • Working knowledge of Work Management Programs. Familiarity with Maximo preferred.

  • Valid CA driver’s license.

  • Minimum of five years’ maintenance experience in power generation facilities or similar industrial facilities and field.

  • Must possess basic math skills, good verbal communications skills, and be proficient with the use of power and precision tools.

  • Must have knowledge of Safety and Environment rules as they relate to mechanical maintenance

  • Good organizational skills.

  • Must provide positive influence on the electrical, operations, engineering and management team.

The Brandon Shores Plant is a fully scrubbed coal-fired generating station. This position reports to the Production Supervisor.
The expected salary range for this position is $75,000.00 to $100,000.00 annually. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience and other job-related factors as permitted by law. Successful candidates will also participate in Talen Energy's Short-Term Incentive program.

Primary Purpose & Summary:
The Plant Technician-Fuel operates and maintains various types of fuel handling equipment associated with the unloading and reclaiming of fuel and the disposal of coal combustion products. Equipment maintained and operated may include barge unloaders, stacker/reclaimer, bulldozers, conveyor belts and associated auxiliary equipment. Additionally, operates and maintains various types of coal combustion by-products (CCB's) such as fly ash, bottom ash and gypsum unloading equipment. Maintaining of equipment includes inspecting, troubleshooting and repairing mechanical and electrical system problems or if problems are complex, seeks/recommends additional resources.
Responsibilities:
1. Performs the safe and efficient operation of fuel handling equipment, such as bulldozers and loaders, unloading and reclaiming conveyor systems, barge unloaders, and stacker/reclaimers.
2. Performs maintenance on all the various types of fuel handling and CCB equipment associated with the unloading and reclaiming of fuel and the disposal of coal combustion products by:
- Visually inspecting equipment for stress and wear
- Changing fluids and parts as necessary and required
- Testing operations as necessary and required
- Initiating orders for regular equipment services and ensuring service is appropriately completed
3. Performs minor mechanical or electrical repair or modifications on equipment or initiates requests for specialized internal or external resources to perform necessary and required repairs or modifications.
4. May work in baghouse compartments making bag replacements and minor repairs as well as tensioning of bags.
5. May perform other fuel handling duties, as needed.
6. Performs all duties in compliance with the company's safety and environmental programs.
Skills/Competencies:
1. Ability to work with bulk materials such as coal, dirt, ash, gravel and coal combustion products.
2. Ability to effectively work as a team member and communicate orally and in writing.
Education & Experience Required:
1. A minimum of 2 years of experience in the safe operation of fuel handling equipment, associated with the unloading and reclaiming of fuel and the disposal of coal combustion products.
2. Previous experience or working knowledge in mechanical and electrical maintenance, repair or mechanical modifications as it relates to fuel yard handling equipment.
3. Experience in an industrial environment, with a willingness to take initiative and has an understanding of the value of multi-tasking, teamwork, flexibility, and stewardship.
4. A working knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook, Excel and Word.
Licenses/Certifications Required:
1. Hold and maintain a valid driver's license that meets company standards.
2. Ability to effectively meet respirator qualifications.
3. Satisfactory results with respect to the background investigation pursuant to the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) requirements, if applicable.

1. B.S. degree in Engineering and six to eight years of experience in the maintenance and troubleshooting of fossil fuel fired generating equipment and their auxiliaries. Some experience with air heaters, pulverizers and environmental control equipment is desired.
2. Professional experience and an in-depth knowledge of the design and operation of fossil fuel power plants and an understanding of the applicable codes.

**About the Role:**
As a CBRE Building Engineer, you will be responsible for monitoring, maintaining and repairing building system operations and the performance of various areas including plumbing, electrical, painting, roofing, heating, and cooling.
This job is part of the Engineering and Technical Services job function. They are responsible for providing support, preventive maintenance, and repairs on equipment and systems.

**What You'll Do:**
+ Perform maintenance and repairs to the mechanical, plumbing, structural, furniture, fire, life safety, and control systems. Keep facility and building systems up to applicable standards as assigned.
+ Comply with all applicable codes, regulations, governmental agency, and company directives related to building operations and work safety.
+ Maintain an energy management program. Ensure all systems operate in the most efficient manner.
+ Assist with the implementation of a preventive maintenance program to ensure that building machinery and systems meet or exceed their rated life. Perform emergency repairs as needed.
+ Follow departmental policies for the safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials. Maintain a clean and safe workplace.
+ Review inspection to building systems including fire alarms, HVAC, and plumbing to ensure operation of equipment is within design capabilities and achieves environmental conditions prescribed by client.
+ Apply in-depth knowledge of standard principles and techniques/procedures to accomplish complex assignments and provide innovative solutions.
+ Coach others and share in-depth knowledge of own job discipline and broad knowledge of several job disciplines within the function.
+ Lead by example and model behaviors that are consistent with CBRE RISE values. Work to build consensus and convince others to reach an agreement.
+ Impact a range of customer, operational, project or service activities within own team and other related teams.
+ Work within broad guidelines and policies.
+ Explain difficult or sensitive information.
**What you'll need**
+ High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and a minimum of four years of related experience and/or trade school training.
+ Universal CFC certification preferred.
+ Ability to comprehend and interpret instructions, short correspondence, and memos and ask clarifying questions to ensure understanding.
+ Requires basic knowledge of financial terms and principles.
+ Uses personal computer and / or PDA for work order system, email, ESS and training. Basic skills with Microsoft Office Outlook.
+ Physical requirements include stooping, standing, walking, climbing stairs / ladders and ability to lift / carry heavy loads of 50 lbs. or more.
+ Decisions made with general understanding of procedures and company policies to achieve set results and deadlines.
+ Responsible for personal safety and the safety of those who are affected by your work.
