Job Description
The Prep & Recovery Unit RN cares for patients who will be receiving anesthetic care and who are recovering from anesthesia after surgery. They monitor pre and post-operation vital signs, assess levels of consciousness, and carefully observe patients for any side effects from anesthesia.
Roles and Responsibilities:
* Performs and documents an accurate assessment on each assigned patient within established standard of care.
* Identifies a patient's immediate needs on admission and establishes daily goals.
* Assessment of any allergies and/or infection control techniques.
* Knows what procedures will be and has been performed.
* Able to recognize priorities within patient care and act accordingly especially with pain management and documentation.
* Completes Phase I and/or II record at end of each case.
* Demonstrates accuracy in data collection with utilization of Ambulatory Surgery record and patient chart for: H&P and Lab Values
* Confirms surgical outcome with anesthesia and any event with anesthesiologist post op.
* Documents flow sheets, graphic sheets, and anesthesia signature are completed by end of recovery phase and reflects patients progress toward established goals.
* Ability to appropriately problem solve incidents on the unit. Communicates incident information and action taken to the appropriate people.
* 4 - 10 or 3 -13 hour variable shifts. Unit operating our hours 5a-10p. Shifts will flex between pre-op and post-op and will be based on surgical schedule. Call component is included in this role. One weekend 24 hour call shift in a 6 week rotation. Weekday call begins at 9p-7am. Some holiday call.
Required Skills and Experience:
* Graduate of an accredited nursing program
* New York State Registered Nurse licensure
Preferred Skills and Experience:
* BSN
* 1-3 years of OR, ICU experience
* ACLS, PALS
Physical Requirements:
* Able to lift 20 pounds. Moving, lifting or transferring patients may involve lifting of up to 50 pounds. Ability to stand for long periods.

Job Summary: The Registered Nurse assesses, plans, directs, implements, and assists to provide quality patient care for assigned patients.
Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities:
* Plans, assesses, directs, implements and provides quality patient care for assigned patients to include modifying nursing care, medication administration and discharge planning. Provides education directed towards individualized patient needs utilizing the nursing process in coordination with policies and procedures.
* Monitors changes in patient condition to include recording and reporting symptoms, assessing vital signs and intervening when appropriate.
* Performs complete data collection from patient presenting complaints and pertinent history.
* Collaborates with patients to identify treatment plan goals, and discharges patients as appropriate with a written discharge plan. Encourages family participation as appropriate for age and situation.
* Delivers nursing care to patients including assessment and planning of education directed towards identified knowledge deficits, treatment, pain management, and discharge utilizing the nursing process.
* Documents accurately in medical records, on forms, and in the computer entering appropriate orders, patient charges, and or other information, meeting standards, policy, and procedures.
* Delivers quality care by using multi-disciplinary team strategies and minimizing the risk of infection, harm, or injury.
* Maintains accurate detailed reports and records and directs care with regard to age and developmental stage, presenting complaint, and pertinent history.
* Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, departments, staff, patients, and visitors.
* Anticipates deteriorating life sign patterns or equipment malfunctions and takes appropriate action.
* Modifies patient treatment plans as indicated by patients' responses and conditions.
* Collaborates with patient care team members on patient care plan, incorporating consistent use of hand-off communication.
* Conducts and coordinates patient care and patient transfers in accordance with EMTALA regulations, as applicable.
* Performs additional department-specific functions as outlined in department procedures.

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
* Nursing Diploma from an Accredited Diploma Program or Associate or higher Degree in Nursing from an accredited school of professional nursing.
* Current licensure by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas or proof of reciprocity of licensure between the State of Texas and another state within 90 days.
* 4881 RN I: 6 months -1.99 years of relevant experience.
* 4882 RN II: 2-4.99 years of relevant experience.
* 4883 RN III: 5-9.99 years of relevant experience.
* 4884 RN IV: 10+ years of relevant experience.
* Current JPS recognized Basic Life Support (BLS) and must be maintained throughout employment.
* Completed JPS recognized Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification upon hire. Must be maintained throughout employment.
* Must successfully complete, pass, and maintain all applicable and requisite training as established by each department in accordance with the JPS Clinical Job Specific Competency Validation Checklist. Completes the requisite certification and courses within the required timeframes, to include but not limited to:
* Competency-based orientation program within 90 days of employment
* EKG course within 90 days of employment and maintained throughout employment.
* Completion of Moderation Sedation Competency within 90 days of employment or transfer if assigned to Procedure areas.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited school of professional nursing.
* Certification in the area of nurse specialty.
