Akkodis isseeking an experienced PCB Designer III with approximately 10 years of relevant industry experience to join our engineering team on a project basis. In this role, you will be responsible for creating, optimizing, and managing the physical layout of printed circuit boards (PCBs) for advanced electronic systems. Your work will directly support the performance, reliability, and manufacturability of critical avionics products.
This is a contractual role (6-9 months/project based) fully onsite in Irvine, CA.
Rate Range : $45/hour - $4/hour; The rate may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.
Key Responsibilities
- PCB Layout: Convert electrical schematics into physical PCB layouts using industry-standard tools (e.g., Cadence Allegro, Mentor Graphics Xpedition, or Altium).
- Component Placement & Routing: Determine optimal placement and routing to meet electrical, mechanical, and thermal requirements.
- Design Rule Compliance: Ensure adherence to electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing guidelines.
- Component Management: Collaborate with design engineers to select and manage components based on performance, cost, availability, and lifecycle considerations.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, and quality teams throughout the design lifecycle.
- Documentation: Prepare and maintain schematics, BOMs, fabrication drawings, and assembly instructions.
- Manufacturing Support: Provide guidance and resolve design-related issues during fabrication and assembly.
- Quality Assurance: Participate in design reviews, simulations, and testing to verify performance and reliability.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- ~10 years of PCB design experience in a professional engineering environment.
- Expert proficiency with PCB design software (Cadence Allegro, Mentor Graphics Xpedition, or Altium).
- In-depth knowledge of PCB design principles including high-speed design, signal integrity, thermal management, and manufacturability.
- Familiarity with DFM (Design for Manufacturability) and DFT (Design for Testability) practices.
- Strong understanding of electronic components and integration into PCB designs.
- Knowledge of relevant industry standards such as RoHS, REACH, and IPC.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Strong problem-solving abilities for resolving design and manufacturing issues.

- Managing a small team of designers to effectively progress projects through the organization from design to manufacturing.

Objectives of this Role:
- Work with multidisciplinary team of engineers and technicians in the execution of complex R&D program in support of national security.
- Lead other designers in the development of PWB designs for avionics systems. Participate in proposals and customer meetings.
- Will work in a team environment as well as independently to complete assigned tasks with minimum supervision.
- Development of Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) and Library component generation.
- Requires PWB design experience to support integrated product team design reviews of drawings and other relevant technical data in support of avionic designs.
- Position may require additional hours to meet project schedules.
- Collaborate directly with Electrical and Mechanical engineers to develop printed circuit boards and interconnect systems for PCBs in support of MIL-SPEC avionics flight electronic hardware.
