Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. Role Purpose

The Senior Process Data Scientist will lead the development and deployment of advanced analytics solutions to drive strategic decision-making and operational excellence across the organization through process improvement. This role will focus on leveraging machine learning, statistical modeling, and big data technologies to uncover insights, optimize processes, and support the digital transformation journey, including Manufacturing 4.0 initiatives.

DESCRIPTION

Enrollment Management (EM) is a multi-unit department within the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor-Academic Affairs. The department is led by the Associate Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management (AVC EM), who serves as the Chief Enrollment Officer and Chief Outreach Officer of the University. EM comprises multiple high-profile, core functional units including: the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, Office of the Registrar, Financial Aid & Scholarships Office, Cal-SOAP, Creative Services, Enrollment Analytics, and the Business Office. We work to advance the academic and public service missions of UC San Diego by ensuring equitable access to education and empowering students throughout their educational journeys.

The Financial Aid and Scholarships (FAS) Office works collaboratively with the rest of Enrollment Management and other campus partners to support students from their recruitment, initial enrollment and through degree completion. The office works to ensure all admitted and continuing students have adequate financial resources available to attend UC San Diego. The FAS Office administers over $550 million in support to undergraduate students and $5 million to graduate/professional level students (excluding Health Sciences). About 70% of undergraduates receive some form of support, with this number growing each year. The staff provides outreach services, counseling, eligibility and verification determination, budgeting, awarding, reconciliation of payments, and federal, state, and university reporting. Under the general supervision of the Associate Director of Financial Aid, Business Systems, the Business Process Analyst is a project leader responsible for functions that are of major scope and complexity including developing, implementing, maintaining and executing financial aid and scholarship in-house systems for the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

In this role, the incumbent applies skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of industry-wide business process and analysis practices and organizational policies and procedures. The Business Process and Data Analyst utilizes third party software such as Slate CRM and Microsoft Access to support critical business processes including but not limited to the College Financing Plan (CFP) calculations for preparing student aid offers; origination and processing of Alternative Loans; and Satisfactory Academic Process (SAP) monitoring.

Skills and knowledge include strong technical knowledge and experience in similar student systems environment, project management experience, and excellent written and verbal skills. Actual experience in scheduling, executing, and maintaining in house systems and business processes as well as quality control analysis and comprehensive testing and reporting is required.

This is a one-year contract position providing backfill support for the Student Information System Enterprise System Renewal (SIS ESR) with high likelihood for a multiple year commitment.

QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Bachelor's degree in related area and 3 years of relevant experience, and / or combination of equivalent education / experience / training.

  2. Thorough knowledge of business and process analysis functions. Demonstrated knowledge of financial aid business processes.

  3. Thorough Knowledge of related areas of IT. Demonstrated superior understanding of logic, understanding of advanced computer systems and automated data processing and web based technology, including a general knowledge of current development and technology in the data processing/telecommunications field, knowledge of computer interface media, data communication and their data formatting, storage, transporting, and backup capabilities.

  4. Strong skills and knowledge of methodologies associated with analysis of processes and problems, information flow and architecture.

  5. In-depth understanding and skill in process and systems requirement documentation standards, such as Use Case modeling, User Story creations and narrative description.

  6. Demonstrated ability to work with others from diverse backgrounds.

  7. Thorough knowledge of business processes and procedures. Ability to consult with, understand and interpret users' data needs and develop new business processes using third party software to meet those needs. (For example, analysis, projection studies and statistical reports.)

  8. Demonstrated testing and test planning skills. Demonstrated experience with difficult beta testing and quality assurance for program/module enhancements and modifications to support complex financial aid business processes.

  9. Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Interpersonal and communications skills to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Responsibilities

The Data Engineer, Data Management is a member of NISA's Data Engineering team responsible for creating, updating, and supporting ETL/ELT data pipelines for a variety of stakeholders across the enterprise. They will define, design, develop, unit test, and support new and existing solutions to meet complicated and time-sensitive business requirements. In addition, the Data Engineer supports and manages high-severity production incident resolution, performs code reviews, and participates in on-call rotations. They should be comfortable working in a fast-paced team environment and have the skills to troubleshoot and resolve data integration issues independently.

Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science or a related field or relevant work experience required
  • 3+ years of experience with ETL/ELT
  • 3+ years of experience with SQL
  • Experience with Python, C#, or similar high-level language
  • Experience with AWS, AWS Lambda, S3, Airflow, and related technologies
  • Professional work experience with Databricks or PySpark
  • Demonstrated team player who works well in a fast-paced environment and can adapt to changing priorities, demands, and timelines
  • Strong analytical and innovative problem-solving skills, along with a solid attention to detail
  • Excellent customer support skills

Preferred Experience
  • Microsoft SQL Server database development
  • SSIS development
  • Working knowledge of BPA Automate or a similar business automation tool
  • Developing software in an Agile environment
