As a Process Controls Specialist, you will be responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining and enhancing the accuracy, reliability and system control's data credibility of PLC and PC-based automation systems. In this role, you will oversee PLC upgrades and wiring modifications on production equipment, and work directly with our maintenance team to troubleshoot and support production line modifications.
+ Perform troubleshooting of automation systems and provides instrumentation, PLC and HMI/SCADA software and hardware support to the maintenance staff.
+ Execute plant projects and capital projects through conception to completion.
+ Maintain an up-to-date and complete set of as-built electrical and controls documentation.
+ Coordinate and implement control system software upgrades.
+ Perform Network Administration and Data Administration tasks for networked, PC based, control systems related equipment.
+ Develop, read, and interpret all electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and programs essential to plant operation; provide updates as necessary.
**Requirements**
+ High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.
+ 3+ years' applicable experience in PLC software and hardware troubleshooting and/or PC-based HMI systems.
OR
+ Associate's Degree in a technical discipline.
+ 1+ years' applicable experience in PLC software and hardware troubleshooting and/or PC-based HMI systems.
The approximate pay range for this position is $62,000.00 - $82,000.00. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Final compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to knowledge, skills and abilities as well as geographic location. Georgia-Pacific's Consumer Products division is seeking a Process Control Technician to join our paper mill process control team at the Wauna Mill in Clatskanie, OR.
Our Team
Team The Process Control Technician is a collaborative role that sits within the Process Control team. This individual will be responsible for supporting the daily operational needs of the process electrical systems, ensuring electrical reliability, and contributing to a culture of safety and continuous improvement at the Wauna Mill.
What You Will Do
- Work with operations and maintenance to address problems, troubleshoot for root cause, and implement sustainable solutions.
- Provide one-on-one support for electricians with troubleshooting strategies and knowledge sharing.
- Assisting in the development and implementation of reliability centered maintenance strategies.
- Support a 24-hour operation with rotating on-call responsibilities, including nights and weekends as needed.
- Collaborate with electricians to ensure that existing drawings are up to date in field locations and our records.
- Develop and implement solutions for replacing obsolete electrical components such as safety relays and VFD's.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
- Experience with one or more of the following technologies: Variable Frequency Drives (VFD), process instrumentation
- Experience reading and interpreting electrical drawings, schematics, and equipment layouts.
- Experience collaborating with others on project work scopes.
What Will Put You Ahead
- Hardware maintenance and troubleshooting experience with: ABB (DCS880, ACS880, ACS800), Allen-Bradley (PF700, PF525, PF755) VFD's.
- Experience troubleshooting in any of the following: Allen-Bradley Control Logix, Honeywell Experion, TDC3000, Bailey Infi90, DeltaV control systems
- 3 years or more of experience working in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Experience developing and maintaining an asset strategy and reliability program for electrical equipment.
- Hands-on mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical experience

What You Will Do:
Requirements: The Process Controls Technician is an electrical subject matter expert working hands on to support maintenance and operations to eliminate repeat electrical issues. The selected candidate will support process controls equipment to improve key performance indicators. A successful candidate will do the following.
- Provide onsite troubleshooting and repair of our electrical process controls automation equipment
- Provide on-call after hours troubleshooting support and regularly scheduled maintenance duties at the facility
- Perform preventative maintenance on industrial electrical equipment and devices
- Program, modify and maintain PLCs, Drives and HMI systems
- Share knowledge while working hands on with others to increase their abilities
- Validate documentation drawings are accurate and in place for all equipment
- Manage implementation of upgrades and new technology
- Work with corporate teams and contractors to specify and install systems
- Develop and implement process control strategies
- Implement programming guidelines and standards
- Follow process controls standards and ensures all future upgraded investments align the standard
The Experience You Will Bring:
Requirements: Experience in Automation or Process Control
- Experience in Industrial Control Systems (PLCs, drives, motor control circuits, HMIs, SCADA systems, control valves, industrial instrumentation for positioning, flow, level, pressure, & temperature)
- Process Control Communication Networks
- Experience in Control System documentation using MS Office and CAD software
What Will Put You Ahead:
- 2 year Technical/Vocational degree, OR associate degree or Higher

- Train on and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Apply basic GMP principles in daily operations.
- Maintain cleanliness and complete cleaning logs.
- Restock consumables and manage inventory.
- Handle GMP documentation including room and equipment logs.
- Support hazardous waste tasks under the Large Quantity Generator program.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure production goals are met.
- High School diploma or equivalent experience.
- Experience in manufacturing or production environments.
- Ability to work 12-hour night shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- Strong literacy and numeracy skills.
- Ability to pass background check, drug screen, and physical exam.
- Comfortable working in regulated environments with PPE.
- Capability to lift, move, and manipulate equipment and materials.
